A little Pattern Mix

My favorite patterns to mix are stripes and florals. Something about those two together just calls to me. My got to is a black and white striped top with one of my three floral kimonos over, but yes I know you can’t mix ALL stripes and ALL florals, but it has been fun to try it in new ways. Some of my favorite denim shorts are my Topshop high waist “mom” jeans that have a big embroidered rose on each side. I think I have mentioned before that when I asked my sister if she liked them before I bought them, she cracked a joke about me wanting to be a camp counselor. Turns out she loves them now! Since these shorts only have two flowers they can hardly be called floral print right? So I took advantage to add in a third pattern. I paired a black and white striped tank, easy tucked into my camp counselor shorts, and added my cheetah print espadrille mules from the dv line for Target (linked here! PS- they run small, I got a half size up). They are not the big cheetah print, they are the small almost more polkadot like print. It may all sound weird but I think it worked. I have actually been able to add these shoes into a lot of outfits and they just work because the print really isn’t that loud. They are also SUPER comfy. Do you have favorite patterns you like to mix? Let me know because I need to branch out!

(I am also super obsessed with this round sunglasses and they are only $14! I am going to get like three more colors. Linked here!)

Stripes on Stripes

I love experimenting with pattern mixing, but sometimes when people think of pattern mixing they do not think of mixing two of the same kinds. In this outfit I chose to mix two different vertical stripes. This cannot work with just ANY or ALL striped pieces so be cautious with your choice. My pants are navy with thin, spaced out double white pinstripes. Although they have plenty of stripes, they are subtle enough to not be over powering. From afar they can almost pass as solid navy. My top is white and gray stripes with no extra spacing. This worked well because the colors weren’t standing out or fighting for attention. The gray and white almost blur together where a white and black stripe or other bright or dark color would pop too much and not mesh with the stripes on the pants. I was sure to keep the whole outfit on the gray/dark tone side.

Now I am not usually one to wear dark colors or outfits. I wear them and I do like them, I just mostly end up leaning towards colors. When I do wear a darker outfit I like to add some kind of pop of color or in this case flare. To not be completely dark with this ensemble, I added my very shiny, rose gold Steve Madden DAISIE pumps and a statement necklace that was gold with pinkish stones. This way my metals (mostly) matched and added some kind of shine. Something had to stand out! It is fun to add bright shoes to a dark outfit, that way they are your statement piece. I actually think I built this outfit around the shoes. Statement pieces do not just have to be around your neck in a necklace form, they can be any piece of your outfit, shoes, accessories, handbag, blazer, etc. This was a fun way to spice up a work outfit, I got a lot of compliments in the office.

Do you have any pattern mixing success stories? I always feel like a winner when I pull one off! Do you get the same vibes?

Red Stripes

I took a stroll through the Target clothing section, against my better judgment, and of course I found something. The seasons are finally changing in store so all the new merch is coming out. I love when the seasons change and seeing what the new styles will be. The second I saw just the pattern of this top I grabbed it off the rack. I was so excited when I saw the puffy shoulders! I tried it on and was sold, of course it’s by one of my favorite lines at Target, Who What Wear. It was one of those tops that you know exactly what you were going to pair it with, like my high waist, raw hem, mom jeans from Topshop (yes the label says “mom”). It came out so cute! I was worried the top would look weird tucked in because it is kind of boxy but it looked great. Of course when I wore it to work yesterday I wore black slacks with it untucked and that looked cute too.

Check it out!

Little Striped Mini Dress

How cute is this little red and white striped mini dress?! I got it from Tosave and guess what, IT IS ONLY $6.75 and comes in six different colors. I wore mine to a breakfast gift exchange because the red and white are perfect for the holidays. I paired it with my over the knee tan boots and a simple pendant necklace to casually dress it up.

What is perfect about this dress is the fit. It kind of looks fitted, but is a little loose around your waist which makes it comfy yet still flattering. I felt so girly in it! I also love the sleeves. You know me and my sleeves right now (and about every other girl), got to have those details. I just love how they are ruffled and three quarter-length. I have learned that even though the long sleeves with ruffles or bell sleeves are so cute, they can be a pain when washing your hands or trying to not get them in your food. The sleeves on this dress are perfect. As soon as I walked into the restaurant I got a compliment on it.

My dress is linked here from Tosave. I got mine in a medium because I am tall, and it is just long enough on me. Check out the other colors and some of their other dresses, they are all such great prices! I will be reviewing two more this week so stay tuned!

Midi Skirt!

I’ve worn a variation of this outfit once before, but it was geared more for summer. With fall literally around the corner, as in tomorrow (I cannot even contain my excitement) I paired this beautiful skirt with a long sleeve chambray top instead of the sleeveless. I just love it and apparently everyone else did too because I got a lot of compliments. These skirts are so easy yet look so dressed up (I say “these” because yes I have a second one). I found them on BooHoo and they have a lot of different styles, plus it was really inexpensive. I love simple outfits that look really put together. The other good thing about this skirt is all the options you can wear with it because it has so many colors in the print. Perfect for all seasons!

Pop of Color

How cute is this midi skirt?! I wasn’t sure if it was too circus tent-y, but I couldn’t get it out of my head from the moment I saw it. I decided it was too fun not to buy. I wore it to work but it would also be great for dress up events like brunch, a bridal shower, or a birthday party.

I paired it with my sleeveless chambray top and my rose gold heels, you know for a little pop, because a bright yellow skirt needs more pop…

I got so many compliments on this outfit from the minute I walked in the door at work! I just loved it! Probably one of the best parts about it is how inexpensive the skirt is. I got it half off on BooHoo.com. I’m excited to see what other looks I can make with it. Check it out!

Hello Shoulders

Isn’t this dress just the cutest?! I found it when I got the yellow kimono (post linked here if you missed it) at Heavenly Couture in Palm Springs. I really can’t wait to go there again, this dress was only $16.99 too! I saw it and instantly wanted it for Mexico. That has been my really bad excuse of why I keep buying things, “but I need it for Mexico!” I have plenty of things for Mexico but you know how we are girls! My packing list looks like I am moving there, but a girl has to have options! We leave on Wednesday night!

Anyways, this dress is so cute and comfy. I feel so dressed up in it even though it is so simple. I used it as one of my outfits for our photoshoot with Sarah Drew (Instagram linked here!) in Lake Elsinore-ish.

Can we also please discuss these wedges?! My bffffff found them online at Macy’s and we both bought them because why not, half of our wardrobe is exactly the same anyways! We had both seen a lot of bloggers wearing similar ones but they were sooooo expensive. These babies full price are only $69! We both got them on sale though for $35! What. A. STEAL! They are so incredibly comfortable, they barely feel like a heel because of the platform. I can’t wait to wear this outfit in Mexico. Check it out!

Pink Ruffles!

As I am sure you have noticed, ruffles are becoming a pretty big trend right now. I have been dabbling a little, but I have been noticing myself being drawn more and more to them. Last month, another blogger I follow was wearing this pink striped off the shoulder top and I thought it was so cute! I checked the online shop where she bought it from, SheIn, and it was only $14! Clearly I had to buy one. I also found these white hight waist “mom” shorts from Topshop at Nordstrom. The two paired together perfectly! I wore it to brunch with two of my girlfriends and everyone loved it. It sounds silly but I really loved the big ruffle because it made me feel so fancy! Check it out below!

The Best Color Combo

I know I have been obsessed with Old Navy recently but I can’t help it! I just find the best deals and and some of the cutest clothes, especially basics. On my last shopping trip there in March (after my month of no shopping), I found this navy striped loose peplum tank and it was on sale for $8! (I also bought it in black) I had been waiting for the perfect way to wear this, so I decided white pants were the best pairing. Of course I didn’t have any, so back to Old Navy I went! I wanted to add some color to the outfit and I LOVE wearing coral with navy so what would be better than a coral necklace to add some pop? I had just bought a coral necklace from Charming Charlie because it was a color I didn’t have yet, and it is a good one to have for summer. I was excited when I finally put this outfit on and paired it all together. I added my chunky tan heels because they basically go with everything and I love them. You cannot go wrong with navy, white, and coral.

I hope you all had a good Tuesday!
