Eliza Bean Designs!

Hi all! If you follow me on Instagram, which I would hope we are good enough friends that you do… LOL, then you may have seen one of my latest posts featuring beautiful bracelets by Eliza Bean Designs (if you didn’t, click here). Now I told Liz I wanted to write a blog to go along with the bracelets I received from her. I sent her some questions just so I could get some background and good info for my post, and her answers came back so beautiful and story like, I almost teared up reading them (I think something is wrong with me lately, so sappy HAHA!). Since her responses were so great, I want to share a lot of her words, so I think I will turn this post into a sort of interview. Read on to know her story, it inspired me!

When did your business start?

I filed for my business name in August 2018 and opened my Etsy store in October 2018.  I started my Instagram and Facebook page about four months ago. That is when I really feel my business started. Prior to that I hadn’t done any posting or advertising of my designs

Why did you start your business?

Starting my business was something God put on my heart to do. I had made a handful of bracelets in July 2018 and my friends and family really liked them. At that point I wasn’t confident in my designs, but I felt the need to keep creating. After fighting with a lot of fear, I decided I had to start my own business. Making bracelets didn’t feel like just a hobby. I felt that I had finally found my passion at the age of 50.  Better late than never, right? For several years prior to starting my business, I had been through a lot of stress that made me very sick physically and emotionally. I have a strong faith and prayed daily for God to give me the strength to get through each day. I woke up one morning with the thought to make a bracelet to get my mind off of the stress. This was so out of the blue and nothing I had done before. My mom had made jewelry as a hobby in the past and had beads left over. I found that when I was making a bracelet, my mind was at peace. I would put music on and create, it felt incredible! God pulled me out of darkness with something as simple as making bracelets. The thought to start my own business came pretty quickly.

Was/is beading a hobby?

If I wasn’t making a bracelet, I was thinking about making one. Ideas would come to me in the middle of the night. That pretty much confirmed passion, not hobby. I have always loved to create, but I had never made bracelets. In high school I used to make myself funky earrings with plastic beads. At the time, there was a feed supply in downtown Upland that sold plastic beads and jewelry findings along with all of the feed and animals they sold there. I was a regular there in the eighties. I always found it funny that they sold beads inside of a feed store.

How do you come up with your designs? Where do you get inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from everyday life. I enjoy being outside. Many of my designs come from the colors of nature. I love earth-tones and use matte colored gemstones and wood beads that have those colors. My beach collection came to me from staring at a picture of the beach that I have in my office. I was thinking of sitting on the beach listening to the waves, relaxing. Design ideas started coming to mind. I had not used smooth (shiny) gemstones before this collection, I would always gravitate to the matte gemstones. The colors in the smooth gemstones remind me of the water and sand,  I had to use them! I still used matte gemstones for all of the white in that collection, they remind me of the clouds. I had planned to make 8 or 10 beach inspired bracelets, I ended up making over 30! Most of the time I start with an idea, then choose the gemstones. There are days I can make bracelet after bracelet, the ideas keep coming. Some days I stare at a strand of beads for what seems like hours before a design comes to mind. I make a list of gemstones needed for a design prior to going to the bead store. If I don’t have a list, I will leave with A LOT more than what I intended to. The first time I went to a bead store, I felt euphoria, okay maybe not euphoria, but pretty close! The vision of all of the beads laying on table after table was pure joy to me.

Do you make custom orders?

I love making custom orders! My favorite is when someone asks me to make something with a specific color, but no other directions. I have to determine what that particular person will like style wise. There’s always that little bit of nervousness when they pick up their order, wondering if they are going to like it.   One of my favorites was for a ballerina that had just been accepted to New York City’s School of Ballet. I searched until I found the perfect 3D tutu charm for it. I have an obsession with charms, or so I’ve been told. I’ve made custom bracelets for hobbies, sports, school spirit, and military service. Custom orders are a unique challenge. I have to fit the bracelet design to the person. I’ve made orders based on being told what someone’s personality is like, then asked to make a bracelet that will fit their style. Those are really fun!

Do you want to expand into more than bracelets?

The thought of making necklaces and earrings excites me. I will be making those in the near future. I have also been asked to make anklets, so that’s something I will be doing at some point. I am going to try my hand at wire wrapping in a few weeks and making my own charms.

As I have already said, I LOVE my bracelets. I especially love the fact that she uses earth-tones. This makes them easily match and go with so many different looks and outfits. They are a fun and dainty addition whether you’re dressing up or just going casual. They are also a great quality. You can feel it in the weight of the beads, they are sturdy and well done. I really encourage you to find Liz on Instagram and on Etsy. Her story as you read is inspiring and her work is truly amazing.

Thank you so much Liz for this opportunity to work with you ❤

Green is My Color!

I have been SO OBSESSED with this emerald/forest green color this season! So much so I keep having to tell myself no when I try to buy ANOTHER piece in this color. I have a blazer and high waist, wide leg pants, but I also want a sweater now… In reality, how many pieces in the same color is acceptable to have?

I think I need to limit myself because the blazer and the pants are definitely statement pieces. I have gotten a ton of compliments on both, and both are super comfy because they are over-sized. I prefer the looser blazers that do not have shoulder pads. Fitted blazers can be so restricting, and I have been loving pairing them over a casual outfit and adding heels like I did below. Jeans, a graphic tee, blazer, and booties or heels just looks so chic. Mixing style genres (is that the right term?) is so fun and kind of edgy. I also like that it is not my usual style. One of my co-workers told me she couldn’t figure out my style and I took it as such a compliment!

Both of these pieces are also great as your one pop of color with an all black outfit, the blazer especially. For work I would do a black blouse, black ankle slacks, the blazer, gold accessories, and either black or leopard shoes (heels or flats – preferably mules/slides).

Check them out below! To be honest, I am most likely going to buy a sweater still… I just love the color with my red hair. Stay tuned! Styles linked below:

Pumpkin Patch Round Two

Sunday my sister, niece and I went to a huge pumpkin patch over in Yucaipa/Redlands. I took Dakota to this pumpkin patch last year and it was crazy then, but we were not prepared for the craziness this year. We got there later than we intended, 2pm, and just getting off on the exit was backed up. Parking was a joke, Nicole pulled into the first lot (a construction site not affiliated with the patch) and it was $20! Nicole didn’t want to drive farther so she just parked there. Once we got to the entrance of the pumpkin patch we were shocked yet again. The line to get into this place was insane! It was literally like getting into Disneyland. The line went through the entire parking lot and out of it FOR A PUMPKIN PATCH. Luckily it mostly moved fast. Once we were in we went to buy drinks because it was so hot and again WAITED IN LINE, like 45 minutes to buy bottled water. After water we finally got tickets and got Dakota on some rides and then the three of us went into the petting zoo. It was a day with a lot of waiting BUT it was still fun. Not going to lie though, I don’t know if I would want to go again next year if it is getting that crowded, I don’t know if it is worth it. Hopefully next month though we get to go to the apple orchard in Oak Glen because that is were I really wanted to go.

Now on to what is really important, my outfit for the pumpkin patch, DUH! I am just kidding, this outfit was nothing special but I do want to point out how amazing this v-neck is. I stalked and stalked this striped tee during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale until I found my size and I am so happy I prevailed in that mission. This has become my favorite casual top this season. It is super soft and light and goes with just about everything on the weekends. Whenever I do not know what to wear I just throw this on and either easy tuck it or tie a knot in the front or on the side and it is perfect. For the patch I paired it with my Adidas (also from the Nordstrom sale) and it was a comfy casual/athleisure outfit. I’m telling you, if you are looking for the perfect tee then check out this one, I will link below and it comes in 7 colors and is under $20!

Baseball & Fishing

Saturday night I went to the Angel game with my bffff, her fiancé and his little sister. Let’s be honest, the only reason Cher and I wanted to go to this one was because Nick Jonas was performing after the game. I also wanted to take a photo with a baseball inspired by Dani Austin LOL, just being honest here. Our seats were in a perfect spot to try our photo but throwing a ball in the air is a lot harder to get a picture of. After a million tries we got it!

img_8588

In the middle of the game Cher and I decided to go “fishing”, as in she and I were going to walk the stadium looking for attractive and eligible bachelors for me. The fish just weren’t biting because there were NONE! How could there be no cute guys at the baseball game? It was very sad. She and I are now trying to make plans to go to a brewery because according to her, hot guys go to breweries. Even though she is engaged she said she will be my wing-woman, you da best Cher!

The game was good, or we thought it was until it was almost over and I asked Cher wait, when did we start losing? Clearly we were not paying attention. We ended up losing by one, oh well, BUT AFTER WAS NICK JONAS. The stage got set up during the fireworks. When they started bringing people out we were pretty sure we saw Joe and Kevin Jonas on the field too and were so excited that all three brothers were there! Turns out they were just bandmates and we made the whole thing up. Nick did great though, but we were sad he didn’t sing a lot of his new stuff. I think he had to keep it family friendly.

All in all it was a good night. It was weird to not wear a jersey to a game but I really wanted to try a cute casual look and just wear a hat. Shop the look below! This is my favorite tank and it is on sale for $9 but hurry because sizes are selling out!

Labor Day Weekend!

It’s the last day of August, can you believe it?! This year is flying by. Tomorrow is the first of September which means (hopefully) fall is right around the corner! Pumpkin spice lattes came back this week… I don’t know about you but I think that is way too early. PSL’s make me think of the cold, I would not want to drink one in this SoCal heat!

What are you plans for Labor Day weekend? I am going to Palm Springs to see my bestie, duh! It has been 4 whole weeks since I have been out there so I am due. I know I mentioned SoCal heat up there, but have you ever felt Palm Springs heat? That is a whole other animal which requires planning on the outfit side of things. It can be so hard to dress cute out there when you just want to rip all your clothes off and die of heat stroke. For these fun holiday weekends I always try to go for a “casual” look. For all of you who follow me you know why my casual is in quotes. I love the undercover dressy looks, you know the ones that are technically casual but have all the details to be kind of dressy.

This weekend, whatever day, I am going to wear my white high waist shorts (got to get that white in before labor day 😉 ) and this new-ish chambray crop. Now that sounds pretty casual right, denim shorts and a chambray crop? The details on said chambray top make all the difference. It is a wrap crop that ties on the side with ruffles on the shoulders and down the front. Now doesn’t that sound a little less casual? This way when someone says, “you’re always so dressed up!” you can say, “It is just denim.” I secretly love when people always think I am dressed up. Goal every where I go, I would rather be over dressed than under dressed.

I will probably bring my sprinkle tank outfit for the other day. That is another good casual one, a super cute top paired with high waist denim shorts. Plus the cami will be good for the heat. Both of these outfits work great with either sandals or wedges, I will probably bring both and decide based on what we do.

Do you have any fun plans or cute outfits planned?? Feel free to share and have a fun AND SAFE three day weekend!

BTS peek: most blogs I have to go back through and edit out a million exclamation points! See?! Hahah I just vomit exclamation points all the time, like chill Brittany, not everyone is as excited about crop tops as you are…… (holding off on putting an ! at the end of that LOL)

Fall Preview!

I feel like I am pretty much ready for fall colors. I love the transitional pieces that you can still (most) wear in summer but will be perfect for fall LIKE THESE BOOTIES!

img_7623

I got them from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and it wasn’t an easy task. They didn’t have them in my stores and my size sold out online. I had them on my wishlist and I literally stalked them multiple times a day checking the sizes. Finally I saw a 7.5 was back and I ordered it so fast! When I got the shipping confirmation I knew it was for real. You know how sometimes when there are limited sizes you can order something and then you get that really depressing email that it was actually sold out and you’re getting a refund? That is what I was worried about. BUT I WON! They are Kristin Cavallari and I love them! They are surprisingly light weight and really comfortable. I know I will be wearing them a lot this fall, they will go with almost everything! Linked down below!

As for this polkadot top, I saw it on an Old Navy email and was in love! It is perfect for work wear and for a causal look. I found these black jeans at Old Navy too. I liked the high waist and the slightly faded black, but I was a little hesitant about the “straight leg” bottom. I wanted to wear this outfit with my booties but didn’t know if that would look funny. I decided to just go for it and I actually liked it. I think the released hem helped.

I feel like something is happening to me… I am liking black! It is not that I do not like black, I am just always more drawn to colors but this fall I think I am really going to invest in some good black pieces, the looks are just so chic!

See the look below and all items linked! PS – my post on Friday will be about my super cute wood watch and my giveaway link will be up again! Stay tuned!

Sprinkle Tank!

Happy Monday! Hopefully everyone had a great weekend. Mine was good and bad. Bad because I had a massive headache both days, but good because I got to celebrate one of my best friend’s son’s first birthdays and yesterday one of my other best friends and I bought rollerblades!! Haha yes rollerblades. We are now “The Bladies” and are going to skate for fun and exercise #babesonblades. I forgot what a workout rollerblading is! My butt and thighs were tired right away. Anyone else still rollerblade? If this link works, this is my new video on IGTV for our first day blading: click here!

Anyways, for the party Saturday I wore this new tank I got and it is so cute! It looks like sprinkles or confetti. Throwing on a tank easy-tucked into high waisted shorts with some earrings, is such an easy outfit yet looks really put together. It is the perfect summer look. It’s casual but is not too dressed down. I didn’t actually wear these wedges to the party, I wore gold sandals, but that shows this look can really be styled either way. Brunch with the girlfriends calls for wedges, baby’s birthday party calls for sandals.

One of my girlfriends is super into camis right now and I think I am finally hopping on that train. I have this one but now I want more! Any suggestions on wear to get some good ones?

Palm Tree Oasis!

My mom has been wanting to take me to the palm tree oasis in Thousand Palms for like ever. Last time we tried it was way too windy. She wanted to try this time but we had to go super early because of how hot it was… like this past Friday was ONLY supposed to be 113°. We wanted to get there by 7am but ended up running an hour late. Good thing because we found out they don’t open until 8am. When we got there, the Coachella Valley Preserve, it looked closed. When we walked up we were told the visitor center is closed during this part of the season, but the trails were open.

It was such a cool place! So many huge palm trees all together with trails and bridges in between. The not cool part, all of the bugs! I felt like you couldn’t stop moving for too long because the bugs would attack you. Them or the lizards everywhere. We went through a few trails, passed a sign that said watch out for wildlife and listed dragon flies, lizards, and whatever. We went a little farther and the next wildlife sign showed things like bobcats, mountain lions, snakes OH-MY! We turned around and said we had gone far enough. We did one more trail and called it a day. It probably took longer to drive there than it did to walk through what we did! But it was really cool to see. It would definitely be cool to go back when it is cooler so you can stay longer. There are even picnic tables to bring a lunch.

At least we got a few good photos. I love this casual outfit I put together. To be honest I bought this cropped tee to wear to the OC Fair when we go this Friday, but I felt it was very Palm Springs so I wore it already, oops! I have been loving the longer, loose crop tops, the ones that just barely graze the top of your high waist bottoms. All items are linked below, the top and shorts are Topshop from Nordstrom, the hat is from Target, and the Adidas are from Nordstrom as well (got them as part of the sale and they are like my favorite thing!).

Fave #NSale Outfit

I am really excited about the outfit I found from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, mostly because I can already wear it now. I know the sale has a ton of fall items and sweaters, and yes I bought a couple, but I can’t wear any of those for the next few months and I want to wear my new stuff now! When I went into Nordstrom the day early access started, I already knew what I had my eye on from online, but I stumbled across this top and these jeans on accident. When I saw the top, by BP, it was one of those moments when as soon as you see it you know you have to have it.

I grabbed it to try on and wanted to see how it looked with jeans (I was in a dress) so I grabbed a pair of Topshop jeans that were also part of the sale. Topshop jeans are my absolute favorite, they fit so great and are so comfy. I have been wanting raw hem jeans and these ones I found were high waist (the Jamie), raw hem, AND a step hem. I used to not be crazy about step hems but as soon as I tried them on I was in love with them. I tried the whole look on (I had already purchased the shoes downstairs) and I was sold. My only hesitation about the jeans was that they were kind of short. The super sweet sales associate though told me we could order them in a 32 length, #tallproblems.

I love that this top can be worn with jeans or with dress pants to work, same with the shoes, they are so cute and comfy! This is definitely my favorite find from the sale. What about you all, create any good looks?

A little Pattern Mix

My favorite patterns to mix are stripes and florals. Something about those two together just calls to me. My got to is a black and white striped top with one of my three floral kimonos over, but yes I know you can’t mix ALL stripes and ALL florals, but it has been fun to try it in new ways. Some of my favorite denim shorts are my Topshop high waist “mom” jeans that have a big embroidered rose on each side. I think I have mentioned before that when I asked my sister if she liked them before I bought them, she cracked a joke about me wanting to be a camp counselor. Turns out she loves them now! Since these shorts only have two flowers they can hardly be called floral print right? So I took advantage to add in a third pattern. I paired a black and white striped tank, easy tucked into my camp counselor shorts, and added my cheetah print espadrille mules from the dv line for Target (linked here! PS- they run small, I got a half size up). They are not the big cheetah print, they are the small almost more polkadot like print. It may all sound weird but I think it worked. I have actually been able to add these shoes into a lot of outfits and they just work because the print really isn’t that loud. They are also SUPER comfy. Do you have favorite patterns you like to mix? Let me know because I need to branch out!

(I am also super obsessed with this round sunglasses and they are only $14! I am going to get like three more colors. Linked here!)
