Pull Me Out of This Funk

Has anyone else felt a lack of motivation or inspiration lately? I have been feeling it bad. Always busy and always tired, so when I finally have a moment of nothing, I want to do nothing. It has been quite frustrating. There are so many things I need/want to do. LIKE WORK OUT FOR ONE. Write blogs, read, put cute outfits together for darn sake to make me feel better about life, or you know… WEDDING PLAN! I have had motivation for nothing. I am ready for change. I need to pull myself out of this funk. It is like my brain is ready to do things but my body won’t follow. BUT NOW IT IS TIME. SO until I can fully pull myself out of this slump, here are some super small things that make me happy and are helping to pull me through:

  • Homemade honey lavender lattes in my cute mugs (no offense to the not cute mugs)
  • Sitting on my back porch
  • Listening to the geese in the lake (as annoying as they are while I am trying to sleep)
  • Re-watching every episode of Selling Sunset
  • My fiancé cooking me dinner
  • Watching The Ranch with my fiancé while we eat dinner
  • The sun going down late
  • Watching the little kids play on the beach
  • Trips to Hobby Lobby
  • The fact that I realized I have kept a plant alive since we moved in

All tips for motivation or inspiration welcome.

Thanks – B

Eliza Bean Designs!

Hi all! If you follow me on Instagram, which I would hope we are good enough friends that you do… LOL, then you may have seen one of my latest posts featuring beautiful bracelets by Eliza Bean Designs (if you didn’t, click here). Now I told Liz I wanted to write a blog to go along with the bracelets I received from her. I sent her some questions just so I could get some background and good info for my post, and her answers came back so beautiful and story like, I almost teared up reading them (I think something is wrong with me lately, so sappy HAHA!). Since her responses were so great, I want to share a lot of her words, so I think I will turn this post into a sort of interview. Read on to know her story, it inspired me!

When did your business start?

I filed for my business name in August 2018 and opened my Etsy store in October 2018.  I started my Instagram and Facebook page about four months ago. That is when I really feel my business started. Prior to that I hadn’t done any posting or advertising of my designs

Why did you start your business?

Starting my business was something God put on my heart to do. I had made a handful of bracelets in July 2018 and my friends and family really liked them. At that point I wasn’t confident in my designs, but I felt the need to keep creating. After fighting with a lot of fear, I decided I had to start my own business. Making bracelets didn’t feel like just a hobby. I felt that I had finally found my passion at the age of 50.  Better late than never, right? For several years prior to starting my business, I had been through a lot of stress that made me very sick physically and emotionally. I have a strong faith and prayed daily for God to give me the strength to get through each day. I woke up one morning with the thought to make a bracelet to get my mind off of the stress. This was so out of the blue and nothing I had done before. My mom had made jewelry as a hobby in the past and had beads left over. I found that when I was making a bracelet, my mind was at peace. I would put music on and create, it felt incredible! God pulled me out of darkness with something as simple as making bracelets. The thought to start my own business came pretty quickly.

Was/is beading a hobby?

If I wasn’t making a bracelet, I was thinking about making one. Ideas would come to me in the middle of the night. That pretty much confirmed passion, not hobby. I have always loved to create, but I had never made bracelets. In high school I used to make myself funky earrings with plastic beads. At the time, there was a feed supply in downtown Upland that sold plastic beads and jewelry findings along with all of the feed and animals they sold there. I was a regular there in the eighties. I always found it funny that they sold beads inside of a feed store.

How do you come up with your designs? Where do you get inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from everyday life. I enjoy being outside. Many of my designs come from the colors of nature. I love earth-tones and use matte colored gemstones and wood beads that have those colors. My beach collection came to me from staring at a picture of the beach that I have in my office. I was thinking of sitting on the beach listening to the waves, relaxing. Design ideas started coming to mind. I had not used smooth (shiny) gemstones before this collection, I would always gravitate to the matte gemstones. The colors in the smooth gemstones remind me of the water and sand,  I had to use them! I still used matte gemstones for all of the white in that collection, they remind me of the clouds. I had planned to make 8 or 10 beach inspired bracelets, I ended up making over 30! Most of the time I start with an idea, then choose the gemstones. There are days I can make bracelet after bracelet, the ideas keep coming. Some days I stare at a strand of beads for what seems like hours before a design comes to mind. I make a list of gemstones needed for a design prior to going to the bead store. If I don’t have a list, I will leave with A LOT more than what I intended to. The first time I went to a bead store, I felt euphoria, okay maybe not euphoria, but pretty close! The vision of all of the beads laying on table after table was pure joy to me.

Do you make custom orders?

I love making custom orders! My favorite is when someone asks me to make something with a specific color, but no other directions. I have to determine what that particular person will like style wise. There’s always that little bit of nervousness when they pick up their order, wondering if they are going to like it.   One of my favorites was for a ballerina that had just been accepted to New York City’s School of Ballet. I searched until I found the perfect 3D tutu charm for it. I have an obsession with charms, or so I’ve been told. I’ve made custom bracelets for hobbies, sports, school spirit, and military service. Custom orders are a unique challenge. I have to fit the bracelet design to the person. I’ve made orders based on being told what someone’s personality is like, then asked to make a bracelet that will fit their style. Those are really fun!

Do you want to expand into more than bracelets?

The thought of making necklaces and earrings excites me. I will be making those in the near future. I have also been asked to make anklets, so that’s something I will be doing at some point. I am going to try my hand at wire wrapping in a few weeks and making my own charms.

As I have already said, I LOVE my bracelets. I especially love the fact that she uses earth-tones. This makes them easily match and go with so many different looks and outfits. They are a fun and dainty addition whether you’re dressing up or just going casual. They are also a great quality. You can feel it in the weight of the beads, they are sturdy and well done. I really encourage you to find Liz on Instagram and on Etsy. Her story as you read is inspiring and her work is truly amazing.

Thank you so much Liz for this opportunity to work with you ❤

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great and safe time. I know this post seems late, right? Well my “blogging new year” didn’t start until yesterday. Why? Well my coworker was in jury duty SINCE BEFORE THANKSGIVING! Isn’t that ridiculous?! So for the last two months I was trying to do my work while trying to cover her work, AND THEN my other coworker is on a three week vacation AANNDD THEN (I wish my font could get bigger there for emphasis) my manager went on vacation for a week. So yeah, I have worked late every day except one when I had to leave for a dentist appointment. That was the only day I saw a glimpse of the sun after work, not even the sun but a sunset. Anyways her first day back was yesterday and I was all pumped to hit the ground running this past weekend and I get the flu. THE FREAKING FLU! I spent all weekend in bed and even had to call off yesterday because I still didn’t feel right and I didn’t want to get my coworkers sick. Three out of the four of us share a small office, so close air is shared. I am feeling mostly better besides my throat which aches when I swallow and eat and I am getting a horrendous cough. So a great start off to the new year, but we keep on keeping on.

I am excited to get this year going but I feel nervous like it is already going to go by so fast, 2017 was like a blur! I think a big part of last year going so quick was the fact that I was counting down to my sister’s wedding events in April, May, and June so half of my year literally flew. Then the second half was recovering and then the holidays. This year I hope to just take one step at a time. I so far have no major plans. My sisters, BFFF, and I planned a one night Plan Springs getaway and I feel myself getting excited for that I am like dude, just chill. Apart from how fast it went, 2017 was a growing year for the.B.Law. I got more comfortable in my niche, grew immensely in followers, and even started collaborating. It gets me excited for 2018 to see what it will bring.

My resolutions the last couple years had great intentions but really were not ideal. I don’t always take into account how busy I am, then I set these goals that on paper with no clock work great, but when it comes down to it, I just don’t have time for everything no matter how hard I try. Then I am just left feeling disappointed instead of accomplished. If you remember my last resolutions they were like a list. This year I want to keep is simple. I want to actually get healthy inside and out. I know everyone always says that every year, and I do not mean a strict diet because I have never really done one of those and when you live with a boy it is kind of impossible… at least with my man-child. What I mean is I want to actually pay attention to what I am putting in my body and on my body. I want to always try and make the healthier choice when I can. I even got my favorite Starbs the other morning, a white chocolate mocha no whip (because why do I need to put 70 calories on top of my already a million?), with almond milk instead of the normal 2%. I mean it was different and not my favorite, but it is something I can get used to. I even bought vanilla almond milk creamer from the store. That one is pretty good I must say.

Brando got a juicer from his dad for Christmas and we have made a couple juices. They were not terrible but I did feel like I was drinking a salad. We will learn. But I think making the better choice will help make this not feel like something we need to do, but want to do and I am hoping it just changes into a lifestyle. I obviously need to get back to the gym too, but I bought a 21 day yoga pass for a nearby studio that I am super excited to get into. I feel like yoga could be my thing.

For skin I want to start reading labels and look at the ingredients for make up and skin care. I want to find better brands (the first one I already love is Pacifica!). I recently found a new one at Target called Love Beauty & Planet. I bought their lavender body wash and I am obsessed! But I will go more into products I have found at a later time. If you have any recommendations please let me know!

For the blog I want to work on consistency and content. I am guilty of just throwing a quick few words together about what I wore and posting it. I want to give you all more quality posts and I apologize for the more recent ones that have been lacking, you deserve better.

As I said I hope you all had a great new year and are ready to get going (or if you have been going this last week good for you! LOL!) So cheers to the new year! I think 2018 will be great!

When You Need an Outfit Idea and Have No Time You Go with The Heather Look

Scenario: You stay up too late doing something totally unnecessary and now it’s 15 minutes before you have to leave for photo shoot day for your very trendy sister’s fashion blog. Your main role is photographer, but you’d like just a couple cute snaps of yourself while you’re in perfect lighting with someone else to hold the camera and make you feel like a model, you know? You told yourself you’d wake up early to style your hair and lay out your outfits the night before, knowing that this is literally never the case. Now your hair is gonna look like… well, the way that it looks. You’re slapping make-up on while you drive. There are things in life you can fake, but there’s one question you can’t ignore: but what will you wear?!

I find myself in versions of this scenario on a constant basis. I never leave myself enough time! While I’ve learned to embrace my messy hair and draw on eyebrows at streetlights, outfit choices aren’t so easy.

This is why it is absolutely essential to have your own style panel!

By this, I mean that I will take the time to emulate certain people’s styles so that, when the time comes, I don’t have to plan ahead. Sometimes, these panelists are fictional. I went through a nice long Blair Waldorf stage. Most of the time though, they’re real people.

When I notice a friend with a really great signature style, I can’t help but think of that while I’m shopping. Would Brittany wear this dress? This makes throwing things together so much easier! Why? Because I can leave myself out of it! Because I can picture her look, I can ask myself, what shoes would Brittany wear with this? Or, even better, I can ask Brittany what she’d wear with it or stalk her insta!

Back to my original scenario, what was I to do for my outfit changes? I grabbed a sweater that I knew Brittany would wear (because it was hers and she wanted it back…), a dress that I know I can rely on, and a top that I bought from Francesca’s specifically because I had seen Heather, another style panelist around here, wearing something similar and I loooove her style! And because I was already picturing her boho, classic style, it was easy to picture what she might wear with it. I immediately had a flashback to the first time I met Heather, when my dad saw her wearing a cute crystal necklace… and thought she was a witch. I was thinking of that moment when I bought my crystal necklace from Charming Charlie.

Anyway, the “Heather Witch” aesthetic made me feel put together with almost no effort. Gotta love having cute friends to do the work for you and sisters to make your accidental red-light bronzer overload look like the glow of a queen!

Introducing the.B.Law Style Panel: Cherlynn!

The fourth member of the.B.Law Style Panel is Cherlynn! We have been best friends for 17 years now. We met in the street because my dad moved onto hers when I was in 4th grade. Although we never went to the same school we always stayed in touch and we finally lived in the same city in high school. Then the best thing happened, we went to the same college, the University of La Verne! It was fate. What is so unique about our friendship is she is actually my older sister’s best friend too. Cher is even close to our younger sister. We call ourselves the “Quadpod” and text in a group message everyday. She is literally like a sister and has seen us all through the best and worst times.

Anyways, Cherlynn will be my expert on dressing to work with kids and staying stylish AND comfy doing so. She will also be talking about dressing for dates, especially when it’s a brand new date! I’m excited for what she has to share! Check out her fun facts below:

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 4

A trend that has been really popular for quite awhile now is midi skirts. You can find so many different styles from solids, prints, velvet, chiffon, lace, tulle, pleats, and so many more. I am totally with this style right now. Not only are midi skirts cute, but they are great for work because they are always long enough! It is so annoying when you wear a short skirt sometimes. If it is a loose skirt you have to worry about the wind, if it is tight you have to worry about it riding up and you are constantly pulling it down. Neither of these happen with a midi (well they could but not as often). I currently have three, and I realized that all three would be great for Valentine’s Day. The tulle skirt I obviously posted already and am so in love with it (if you missed it you can find it here), the burgundy pleated skirt is a great way to utilize a different shade of the Valentine colors, and the gold can be paired with a pink or red top.

Now all of these skirts I bought quite awhile ago but I linked some similar ones for you below!

Valentine’s Countdown: Day Two-tu

Hello! Today is day two in my Valentine’s Day countdown or shall I say, day Tutu because what is more perfect for Valentine’s Day than a blush tutu skirt?! If you missed day one you can catch up –> here <–. As I said in my last post, for Valentine’s Day this year I am going shopping in my own closet rather than going actually shopping. To my surprise (although I really shouldn’t be that surprised) I found PLENTY of things in my closet that I can wear this V-day, like this blush tutu skirt! I got this from Windsor almost two years ago and I have only worn it once so clearly I need to wear it again. This is definitely going to be my choice outfit next Tuesday because not only is it adorable, but I feel like Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City in it.

The top is a tank I got from G-Stage for like $15 to wear to my little sister’s grad. party last May and I haven’t worn it since. I am kind of bad at that, I buy an outfit for an occasion and then I do not end up wearing it again for a long time. Lately I have only been buying things when I can think of at least two places/events I can wear it to. Anyways back to it, the heels! At first I was hesitant wearing blush with blush, not to mention slightly different shades, but once I laid the heels on the skirt I was convinced. I wouldn’t necessarily pair these blush heels with this skirt on any regular day but for Valentine’s it is perfect. It gives just the right amount of girly-ness (is that even a word?) and the gold heel is of course perfect. To top off this look I am actually thinking of a berry lip, is that weird? I think it will give the outfit a little more edge and pop, I guess we will see when I wear it on Tuesday! I will be sure to post a photo.

Hello Novel, Long Time

So today I opened my novel for the first time since November. After National Novel Writing Month ended I meant to just take a break, but then the holidays happened and I stopped writing. That is going to change now. Working on it today got me motivated to work on it all over again. My go to background for writing is Sex and the City so I started the entire show over again from season one and worked on my novel for four episodes. I think I like to write to it not just because it’s my favorite show, but because I want to be Carrie Bradshaw. So here is to writing again!

Not Okay

Seriously something is wrong. I don’t know why, but it has been happening all week! I can’t seem to find anything to wear! It is seriously awful. I am going crazy. It’s not like I don’t have clothes, anyone knows I have PLENTY, I just have no inspiration this week. All of my outfits have been so basic and not creative at all. I even went to three different stores to try to find a dress for a party my sister is throwing next week and I found nothing! One of those stores was a pretty big Forever 21 and only one thing slightly caught my eye and I still decided no. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME 😭?

I am going to blame the weather. We are getting to that stage where it’s finally starting to cool down, and by cool I mean low 80’s so it is still not cold enough to wear sweaters. I think I am so over my summer clothes but am unable to wear any fall/winter clothes. Can’t it just be cold so I can get out of this funk?! I need some inspiration stat.

Type A is for Anal

So something I can admit about myself is that I am anal. I know this. I get it from my dad, he is anal too. I love, LOVE lists, agendas, notebooks, all of that stuff. When something isn’t straight, even, or perfectly centered I can’t handle it. You’d think with my love of organization and perfection I would have a perfect room… but I don’t. Anyways I have been all about making my own cute daily agendas for myself on the computer. I have even been personalizing them for a couple friends. I even made one called Blogspiration. It is for my friend’s birthday gift so if she reads this she may see it before I give it to her so if you do, pretend to be surprised. I want to share these with you now! Feel free to share my analness and print them out for yourselves! My sister did tell me I am the lovable type A at least.
