Hanging Out in La La Land

I feel the need to express my shameless obsession and love for La La Land. I saw it a few weeks ago and have literally been living in my own “La La Land” ever since. After seeing the beautiful masterpiece I immediately purchased the soundtrack and have kid you not, listened to it at least one time through EVERY-DAY-SINCE. It just makes me happy. I even have to be careful when I am listening to it with my earphones at my desk at work because I catch myself trying to sing and dance, which may be frowned upon by my cubicle neighbors for my not so charming tone. But you know what? In my La La Land I have a fantastic voice so oh well!

This movie is just one of those that makes you feel like you too can achieve your dreams, and be fabulous doing it, and be so artsy that you had no idea your inner self was a cute hipster. It even made me want to go down to LA for fun and I HATE LA. Well I hate the traffic but who cares?! In La La Land people embrace traffic and use freeway overpasses as their stage! Totally realistic to walk away from your car on a stopped freeway overpass and dance with a stranger on top of another stranger’s car, like you totally won’t get beat up for that. The world is your oyster though right?! But like, am I right, because that truly is a strange saying, what does an oyster have to do with anything?

Well that is neither here nor there, the point is I saw La La Land and I now want to make my dreams come true. Positive vibes only! Who is with me?! Come and live in La La Land with me. We will accept happy people only, cranks can go live in an oyster or something because NOTHING is going to bring me down!

Last HB Hoorah

It’s official! I am finally moved out of my apartment in Huntington Beach. It is very bittersweet and the last time I drove away after turning in my keys I almost felt like crying (such an emotional girl). I am happy that the packing is over though. Packing is literally one of the worst things, what is even worse is packing an entire apartment alone! My boyfriend totally owes me! (side update, he is doing really well in basic training! He graduates on August 5th!) I would also like to thank my bffff because I literally would not have gotten the apartment packed without her.

The plan was to move everything out last Sunday, so my bffff, younger sister and I, wanted to do a last HB hoorah and do a few things that we had been wanting to do, like go to the OC Swap meet. The swap meet is awesome because there is so much there and it only costs $2.00 to get in. Even if you don’t buy anything it is just fun to look around. We made our way through a bunch of vendors and saw a lot of cute clothes. I found these awesome sunglasses too! There was a fun pair online that I have been wanting to buy but haven’t wanted to spend $50.00 on them, but here I found a different fun pair I liked and they were two for $15.00! Naturally I bought two pairs. They are so fun, I have been wearing them everyday.

We also found this one booth that sells hair bows, Mia C’s Bowtique. She had a lot of cute bows including wrap type ones. My bffff ended up buying 5 different bows, three of which represent her teams, hockey, football, and baseball.

One of my favorite booths was a mobile boutique called Jules Vault. It was the cutest vintage truck that you could go inside to shop. I liked basically every piece of clothing they sold! I will definitely be looking for them again.

Life is too short to wear boring clothes- Jules Vault

After the swap meet we ran a couple errands and next on the agenda were rainbows from Aloha Grill down on Main Street. If you don’t know, a rainbow is probably one of the best alcoholic beverages you can get. It is like six different slushy drinks totaling about ten different alcohols, mostly rum. The other great thing about these drinks is that they are only $7! You can get two to tipsy in less than $15, if that’s not a yummy deal then I don’t know what is.

We ended the night with a walk on the pier down to Ruby’s Diner to get shakes. It was the best chocolate banana shake of my life!

It ended up being the perfect last day to the end of my adventure in Huntington Beach. The next day my dad and his friend came to help me move out and I was sore for about four days since the elevator in our building was broken and we had to carry everything down stairs. As I said, it is really bittersweet to move. I loved the atmosphere of living down there, the commute to work was just really terrible. I also wished we would have utilized our location more. When you live at the beach it is easy to take it for granted and never really go. It makes me sad that every time I get off work my iPhone tells me that it will take me 50 minutes to get home because it thinks I am still living there. But I know that my boyfriend and I will be on to our next adventure in our life and it won’t be the last, so on to the next thing!

Jump For Joy With PLUMP FOR JOY

Okay, so hair is like my thing. It wasn’t always but it is now and has been for awhile. My mom would have never thought this could happened since my hair wouldn’t even hold a curl for an hour when I was little. In high school I discovered that I could actually curl my hair well, and it would stay for more than a day! In college I won’t the “Best Hair Award” in my sorority (I am pretty sure I have mentioned that before so clearly I am a tad proud). I always used an inch and a quarter curling iron, that was until I went to Italy the semester before I graduated and fried my curling iron in a European plug. I was completely lost. Finally, in 2013 I got my secret weapon that I still use today, a pink HerStyler straightener that curls my hair so amazingly that sometimes I can’t even believe it is a straightener.

I have a new favorite thing. Recently I have been really into big hair. The only thing I am good at is curling it, I am not so creative with other things (but I want to learn!). At Target while buying more Not Your Mother’s dry shampoo, because come on, every girl needs a good dry shampoo for those days you just can’t, I saw another Not Your Mother’s product, Plump for Joy – Thickening Hair Lifter. It says for fine, thin hair. Well I have neither so I figured it would probably REALLY work on my hair. It is almost a gel that sprays out. You spray it into your palm, rub your hands together then scrunch into your hair. I prefer to scrunch it in with my hair flipped over forward, then I flip it over when I am done and BOOM! Big hair! It is amazing and looks great! I love that I don’t get that crunchy texture with it. One last awesome thing about this product… the bottle has an open and a close tab so you can throw it in a bag and not worry about leaks! Best. Thing. Ever.

I seriously suggest trying this if you like big volume. Have some fun with it after all, the bigger the hair, the close you are to heaven right?!

I couldn’t find this one online at Target so I linked the actual Not your Mother’s site, you can also buy this at Ulta and I have even bought the dry shampoo at Vons!              Not Your Mother’s Plump for Joy Thickening Hair Lifter

My Favorite Things #3

Today I wanted to share two of my favorite hair products! So I have a lot of hair. It’s pretty long and it’s thick and there is just a lot of it and it’s always everywhere. My sister is a hairstylist so of course I’m always getting my hair done and different. I’ve been dark brown, blonde, red, brown again, blonde again, now red again, it’s an endless cycle of change but I love it. Bleach though, seriously dries out your hair. When I was blonde and even awhile after I was no longer blonde, I couldn’t brush my hair when it was wet. It would just break off in my brush and was SUPER tangly. One day my stepmom came home from the salon my sister works out and handed me a brush she got me. It’s called the Wet Brush. It looked like a pretty standard brush but she said its supposed to work really well with wet hair. Well that night after washing my hair I tried it. It was like MAGIC. It went through my hair like nothing! No hair broke off and no tangles! I was so amazed. How does this thing work?! Well it has special flexible bristles that just go through your hair without pulling it. I’ve been using it for three years and can’t even use a regular brush now. I tried and it hurt. There really is a difference. I finally just bought a new one and it’s PINK! If you have trouble with detangling your hair I HIGHLY recommend this brush! I refuse to use any other brush now. It’s also great for kids! My sister uses it on my niece and there are no tears! I got my new one at Target and it was only $8.99!

My second hair favorite is Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo. Come on girls, who doesn’t love dry shampoo? There is usually one day a week that I just dry shampoo my entire head. Sometimes you just don’t want to wash your hair and mine takes forever to dry so if it’s late and I haven’t washed it yet, then I’ll just dry shampoo the next day. The last dry shampoo I tried started off good but within a couple hours my hair just looked greasy again, and by the end of the day it looked really bad. The next time I tried this one and it worked great and it smelled so good! It totally lasted all day, even when I had to use it on my entire head. You can get the Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo at most stores. I got mine at Target this last time but before that I even bought it at Vons! The best part is that it’s only $4.79!

Shop both of these products at Target here!

My Favorite Things

I want start a new thing where I share some of my favorite things with you all. Please feel free to share back your favorites so we can all learn about new, well new anything!

The first two things I want to share are my new Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the color Patina, basically a lip stain, and let me tell you, it is amazing. It literally stays all day, even after drinking and eating, I still come home from work with full color on my lips. I have been curious about the Stila lip stains since my friend Amanda, from Glitter it Gold, started wearing the red one. Her lips always look so flawless when she wears it that I was completely convinced that I wanted one. Now I wear mine almost everyday. The color Patina goes with almost everything and is a great warm color for fall and winter. I will definitely be looking into a brighter color come Spring. I bought mine at Ulta and although it was $24.00, it is totally worth it since you just need to put it on once and you are set for the day, so it will last a long time.

My second favorite thing is False Lashes Mascara by MAC in black. I got this mascara as part of an eye kit where I got a cream eye shadow in dusty pink, a plum gel eyeliner, a double sided brush for the liner and the  shadow, and this amazing mascara! The first time I tried it I was amazed, it worked so well! Even after using it for a month it still looks great! You know how sometimes after you have been using the same mascara for awhile it gets a little dry and doesn’t have the same wow effect? So far this hasn’t done that! For a pricey mascara, $22.00, this is my new go to (other wise I stick with my Maybelline which I will talk about it in a later post).

If you are looking for a new lip color or mascara definitely check these two out.
