I feel the need to express my shameless obsession and love for La La Land. I saw it a few weeks ago and have literally been living in my own “La La Land” ever since. After seeing the beautiful masterpiece I immediately purchased the soundtrack and have kid you not, listened to it at least one time through EVERY-DAY-SINCE. It just makes me happy. I even have to be careful when I am listening to it with my earphones at my desk at work because I catch myself trying to sing and dance, which may be frowned upon by my cubicle neighbors for my not so charming tone. But you know what? In my La La Land I have a fantastic voice so oh well!
This movie is just one of those that makes you feel like you too can achieve your dreams, and be fabulous doing it, and be so artsy that you had no idea your inner self was a cute hipster. It even made me want to go down to LA for fun and I HATE LA. Well I hate the traffic but who cares?! In La La Land people embrace traffic and use freeway overpasses as their stage! Totally realistic to walk away from your car on a stopped freeway overpass and dance with a stranger on top of another stranger’s car, like you totally won’t get beat up for that. The world is your oyster though right?! But like, am I right, because that truly is a strange saying, what does an oyster have to do with anything?
Well that is neither here nor there, the point is I saw La La Land and I now want to make my dreams come true. Positive vibes only! Who is with me?! Come and live in La La Land with me. We will accept happy people only, cranks can go live in an oyster or something because NOTHING is going to bring me down!
“It’s another day of sun!”
Yesterday, May 3rd, was my boyfriend and my one year anniversary! We had a nice date planned, brunch at the Saddle Ranch Chop House in Costa Mesa, and then to see the new Avengers movie after. This plan was perfect because brunch included bottomless mimosas and bloody marys, so we would drink as many drinks as we wanted, then walk over to the theater, which was right next to the restaurant, and watch a two and a half hour movie to sober up. When we got to the Saddle Ranch, the hostess asked us where we wanted to sit. There was immediate seating inside, or about a ten minute wait for outside. It was so nice outside that I wanted to sit out there. So we waited and when we finally got seated, of course not underneath any of the umbrellas. I felt so bad, after sitting at brunch my boyfriend had a total sunburn on one of his arms… sorry! Apart from the sunburn the food was great and so were the mimosas. I had five I’m pretty sure. My boyfriend had the bloody marys which must have been good since he had like seven! What was cool is that you weren’t stuck with your same drink the whole time. You could try all of the flavors. The Bahama bubbly was my favorite, it was champagne, orange juice and mango juice.
We originally got our movie tickets for 3:50 PM because brunch ended at 3:00 PM. At 1:00 PM we wondered why we ever thought we would make it until then since both of our heads were already swimming. I went back to the theater and asked if we could exchange our tickets for earlier ones and they let us! We now only had a little less than an hour so we paid our bill and headed to the theater early to sit in the dark and the coolness. By the time the movie started I was ready to fall asleep. Once it got going though I was okay. The movie was really good! Except that through it I could feel a headache coming on as my buzz wore off. By the end of the movie I had a full on hangover. Seriously how lame am I? Who gets a hangover before they even go to bed from being drunk? You are supposed to wake up with one, not get a hang over three hours after drinking!
We got home and took a nap and I could feel myself getting worse. I get migraines all the time, but a champagne headache I can tell you is the worst headache I have ever felt, and I have had some bad migraines. My boyfriend got up from our nap after about two and a half hours, me on the other hand never got back except to go to the bathroom. I was in bed for 13 hours and my headache still didn’t go away until about 6:00 AM! It was the worst experience. One of those “I am never drinking again” experiences. I still kind of felt bad today too. I am such a weenie. Happy anniversary babe, I’m just going to die here in bed.
Thursday night and Heather and I finally had the night off together. We were going to snack for dinner and watch disney movies. Sounded like a good roomie movie night.
Me: “I’ll make the popcorn!”
Heather: “Okay I’ll open the wine!”
So I start making the popcorn, in a pot of course because it’s so much better than the microwaved bag one, and heather gets the cork screw out to open the wine. The popcorn starts to pop, Heather is still working on the wine. The popcorn is done, Heather is still working on the wine. I poured the popcorn into two bowls and salted it, Heather is still trying to open the wine.
Heather: “Britt I can’t get this.”
She had the corkscrew barely in the cork and couldn’t screw it down any farther so she took it back out. The cork was starting to look a little beat up. I told her I would try, maybe I was strong enough.
I took the bottle and the corkscrew from her and started screwing it in. It seemed to be going good. It kept twisting and twisting and soon started to seem like it wasn’t going farther down into the cork. Suddenly I felt something come loose…
I broke the screw off the corkscrew. I must have been too strong for it. We died laughing. But now what do we do with the screw? We couldn’t get it out of the cork and we don’t have pliers to try it. So now we have a full bottle of wine in our fridge with a corkscrew sticking out of it and we have to be careful to not cut ourselves on it when we get stuff out.
This must be why it’s “Wine Wednesday” and not “Wine Thursday”. Wine bottles refuse to be opened on Thursdays. We got a new opener though to try it again this week!
We will see how it goes. You know us Tragic Girls need us a drink! If we can open it…
