You Look like the Fourth of July!

I think the Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays to plan outfits for. I am not quite sure why, I just love me some red, white, and blue. Maybe it is the challenge of how to creatively put those three together in a new way every year. Regardless, I just love it and this year is no different.

Old Navy is always a GREAT stop for Fourth of July looks. They just have so many great pieces and most of them you can mix and match with each other. I walked in the store, to pick up an order NOT to shop, and immediately found four items in like five minutes sooo that is where we are. Check it out:

I love creating red, white, and blue outfits but with more vintage colors, like how these pants are not fully bright red, more of a tomato. Plus they will also be great for a hot summer night because they are thin.

Another way to style these pants for the holiday…

This is another way to not have the bold patriotic colors, this tank is actually gray striped but together gives the look of being festive. I also love that either of these looks can be worn on a regular casual day and you won’t just look like the Fourth of July. But then again who cares right?! LOVE AMERICA!

It has been so long since I have done a style post, I miss them. I will be trying to do more again so stay tuned! Below are some of my previous year’s looks for the Fourth!

One of my favorite work looks for the occasion!

Hope everyone has a safe and fun Fourth of July! Below are a few more items if you need last minute ideas! (all items are linked below and all images are from Old Navy)

Trendy Cases with CaseApp!

WE INTERRUPT THIS CURRENT STATE OF CORONAVIRUS PANIC FOR THIS IMPORTANT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

If you are like me, you like to accessorize with all aspects of your life. I won’t pick a phone case because it is practical. Being honest, if it is not cute, I am not going to buy it. Phones are something that have become a huge part of our lives. If it is something that is going to be on me almost 24/7, then I want it to reflect me and my personal style and I think that is okay!

I got the chance to partner with CaseApp and oh my goodness they have such cute cases! Also their selection is HUGE! Do you know how long it took me to decide on which one I liked best? A long time, I had like 8 in my cart 😅. But that is a good thing! I feel like so often at the phone store we settle for the cutest one we can find in that moment because we NEED a phone case when we buy a new phone. Well with CaseApp, you have the chance to get the one you love (or even customize one!).

img_2192

I think the thing I like the most though, is that you can choose between a “slim” case or a “tough” case, as well as matte or glossy. I am a clumsy person and drop things alll the time, so obviously I chose tough.

img_2186

If you are in the market for a new case I highly recommend CaseApp! Use my code THEBLAW20 for 20% off your order. I think I may end up starting a collection now and have a case for every occasion! These really make me want summer… if this rain ever ends.

LA Fashion and Sad Noodles

I don’t know if it is something in the air or not, but lately (actually more last week when I started writing this) I have been a sad noodle. I didn’t know what that fabulous phrase was until my little sister told me she was a sad noodle and continued to explain she meant meh, like in a funk. Then my other little sister said she was feeling meh so I graced her vocabulary with sad noodle. Now the three of us are sad noodles together, because being a sad noodle is at least better with other sad noodles. Okay I think I have said sad noodle enough times for you to want to use it too.

I am not entirely sure why I have been meh, but I think I might have an idea. I came to the realization the other day that I’m not in a state of feeling left out, but a constant state of feeling left behind. This all circles back to the comparison trap. So many of my friends and people I know are moving on with their lives, getting married, buying houses, while I am doing none of the above. WHICH IS OKAY. I have to remind myself I am not them. It is just something that gets you down every now and then you know? This week I feel much more neutral about the whole thing. I have noticed the sad noodle phase comes after a really fun weekend when the high is gone. I think I will go into this more later when I can gather my thoughts better.

ANYWAYS it has been so long since I have done a style post. I find myself missing it. Maybe that is something that will help get me out of this bowl of sad noods, actually writing for fun again. My girlfriend Maria and I went to LA a few weeks ago to just be general basics and it was so fun! I made sure I made an “LA style” outfit. By that I mean something I’d want to wear but am not brave enough to wear just around anywhere. I feel like LA is where you can try any fashion out and literally no one cares.

So I put together what I thought was kind of dressy and kind of edgy (I really dig these kinds of looks right now). I paired my leopard midi-dress under a tied up graphic tee and white booties. I was strangely excited to wear this outfit, it was totally out of my norm and I relished in it. It made me remember how much I love dressing up and making new looks. I am really hoping to create some actual content soon, thank you for being patient with me.

Until then, enjoy the look and find the links below! The top is older so I am linking a few other graphic tees (I am OBSESSED with graphic tees right now who am I?!)

Eliza Bean Designs!

Hi all! If you follow me on Instagram, which I would hope we are good enough friends that you do… LOL, then you may have seen one of my latest posts featuring beautiful bracelets by Eliza Bean Designs (if you didn’t, click here). Now I told Liz I wanted to write a blog to go along with the bracelets I received from her. I sent her some questions just so I could get some background and good info for my post, and her answers came back so beautiful and story like, I almost teared up reading them (I think something is wrong with me lately, so sappy HAHA!). Since her responses were so great, I want to share a lot of her words, so I think I will turn this post into a sort of interview. Read on to know her story, it inspired me!

When did your business start?

I filed for my business name in August 2018 and opened my Etsy store in October 2018.  I started my Instagram and Facebook page about four months ago. That is when I really feel my business started. Prior to that I hadn’t done any posting or advertising of my designs

Why did you start your business?

Starting my business was something God put on my heart to do. I had made a handful of bracelets in July 2018 and my friends and family really liked them. At that point I wasn’t confident in my designs, but I felt the need to keep creating. After fighting with a lot of fear, I decided I had to start my own business. Making bracelets didn’t feel like just a hobby. I felt that I had finally found my passion at the age of 50.  Better late than never, right? For several years prior to starting my business, I had been through a lot of stress that made me very sick physically and emotionally. I have a strong faith and prayed daily for God to give me the strength to get through each day. I woke up one morning with the thought to make a bracelet to get my mind off of the stress. This was so out of the blue and nothing I had done before. My mom had made jewelry as a hobby in the past and had beads left over. I found that when I was making a bracelet, my mind was at peace. I would put music on and create, it felt incredible! God pulled me out of darkness with something as simple as making bracelets. The thought to start my own business came pretty quickly.

Was/is beading a hobby?

If I wasn’t making a bracelet, I was thinking about making one. Ideas would come to me in the middle of the night. That pretty much confirmed passion, not hobby. I have always loved to create, but I had never made bracelets. In high school I used to make myself funky earrings with plastic beads. At the time, there was a feed supply in downtown Upland that sold plastic beads and jewelry findings along with all of the feed and animals they sold there. I was a regular there in the eighties. I always found it funny that they sold beads inside of a feed store.

How do you come up with your designs? Where do you get inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from everyday life. I enjoy being outside. Many of my designs come from the colors of nature. I love earth-tones and use matte colored gemstones and wood beads that have those colors. My beach collection came to me from staring at a picture of the beach that I have in my office. I was thinking of sitting on the beach listening to the waves, relaxing. Design ideas started coming to mind. I had not used smooth (shiny) gemstones before this collection, I would always gravitate to the matte gemstones. The colors in the smooth gemstones remind me of the water and sand,  I had to use them! I still used matte gemstones for all of the white in that collection, they remind me of the clouds. I had planned to make 8 or 10 beach inspired bracelets, I ended up making over 30! Most of the time I start with an idea, then choose the gemstones. There are days I can make bracelet after bracelet, the ideas keep coming. Some days I stare at a strand of beads for what seems like hours before a design comes to mind. I make a list of gemstones needed for a design prior to going to the bead store. If I don’t have a list, I will leave with A LOT more than what I intended to. The first time I went to a bead store, I felt euphoria, okay maybe not euphoria, but pretty close! The vision of all of the beads laying on table after table was pure joy to me.

Do you make custom orders?

I love making custom orders! My favorite is when someone asks me to make something with a specific color, but no other directions. I have to determine what that particular person will like style wise. There’s always that little bit of nervousness when they pick up their order, wondering if they are going to like it.   One of my favorites was for a ballerina that had just been accepted to New York City’s School of Ballet. I searched until I found the perfect 3D tutu charm for it. I have an obsession with charms, or so I’ve been told. I’ve made custom bracelets for hobbies, sports, school spirit, and military service. Custom orders are a unique challenge. I have to fit the bracelet design to the person. I’ve made orders based on being told what someone’s personality is like, then asked to make a bracelet that will fit their style. Those are really fun!

Do you want to expand into more than bracelets?

The thought of making necklaces and earrings excites me. I will be making those in the near future. I have also been asked to make anklets, so that’s something I will be doing at some point. I am going to try my hand at wire wrapping in a few weeks and making my own charms.

As I have already said, I LOVE my bracelets. I especially love the fact that she uses earth-tones. This makes them easily match and go with so many different looks and outfits. They are a fun and dainty addition whether you’re dressing up or just going casual. They are also a great quality. You can feel it in the weight of the beads, they are sturdy and well done. I really encourage you to find Liz on Instagram and on Etsy. Her story as you read is inspiring and her work is truly amazing.

Thank you so much Liz for this opportunity to work with you ❤

“I never dreamed I would have my own jewelry business in my fifties.  It’s amazing to see where life can take you if you don’t allow fear to stop you” – Elizabeth, owner of Eliza Bean Designs

2019 Goals!

This year, I think I will just use “goals” in place of “resolutions”. After all they are goals, plus my resolutions the last couple years have not been completed so maybe they need some new juju.

So here we are, my goals for 2019:

  1. Finish my course (which I will tell you about after I finish it)! This is my number one. It is so important I am even giving myself a time frame! End of March I need to have all three books read. HOLD ME TO IT!
  2. Buy new car in maybe the summer?? Since my commute has tripled I have over 120k miles on my barely five year old car. There is nothing wrong with it, but I want to trade it in before it is literally worth nothing. Plus I would rather have a new car with a warranty than worry about a car with a million miles start to break down. Personal preference here. Plus I have had a car payment for forever so why not keep it going right? lol (also now I get to work local two days a week and I carpool at least once so I would be putting less miles on a new car)
  3. Move out in the fall/winter. This is a huge goal which will totally depend on current circumstances at the time. If all goes as planned I will move out. I trust God will guide me to what I am meant to do and where I am meant to be. If it is not time for me yet, then that is okay. (You guys I literally daydream about decorating my own apartment all the time. It is going to be the cutest!)
  4. Okay these next few aren’t giant goals like above but still important to me. I want to create more and better content for my blog and Instagram. I don’t want it to just be for cute outfits (don’t worry, there will ALWAYS be cute outfits), but I want this to be my space to be creative and be me. I think I have already started to tap into that this year with more personal posts, but I want to continue and grow with that. Also Tab and I have a ton of fun ideas for content.
  5. This is basically the second part of goal 4. Not necessarily trying to put a number and pressure on it, but I want to get to 5k Instagram followers by the end of the year. For some of you that is chump change, but that will be almost double my current following and I think that is a good number to grow to (obviously the more the merrier).
  6. Kind of another branch off of 4. I really want to go to places, like travel to places, but I am not in the position to do that right now which is okay. I decided I want to try and do as many “local” travels as I can. Places I can drive to if anything. I have already started a list with Tab. Some places include: Venice Beach (BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER BEEN), Joshua Tree (which us girls BETTA BE GOIN TO in March), the sand dunes in Death Valley, the Neon Museum in Vegas, and more! I know some of these might seem silly to some, but I am super excited about it! I would love to plan at least one “travel” a month but we will see how it goes. Please let me know any suggestions!
  7. Aside from the blog, I have had a book idea for a few years now. I have planned some and have even started a chapter. It has now developed into a series and I am so excited!! My goal this year is to fully plan out the three books (using notecards as suggested by Tab who’s friend does it).
  8. Second part of goal 7, I want to write ten chapters of the series. These can be chapters from any book, I just need to finish ten. The reason I can write from any book is because each chapter is a different story and as long as I plan it all first I will have the chronological order.
  9. Pay off debt, obviously.
  10. Get fit, OBVIOUSLY (already started!)!

PSA: Fave Dress On Sale!!

You probably know that my favorite dress is the ruched body-con by Leith from Nordstrom, considering I have five different colors. I’ve said before that I call it the blogger dress because like all of the bloggers have it, and I’m totally okay and open to admitting that I jumped right on that band wagon and I don’t care! It’s such an amazing dress and makes you look so good. I love that you can wear it to work and for going out. It’s so classy yet still sexy with the wrap type bottom.

Well… I now have six of them and most likely will be adding my seventh, but with good reason! There are ten colors on sale right now!! I just added this bright coral, or as it’s called “Pink Teaberry”, and I’m so excited. Pantone’s color of 2019 is “Living Coral” so I am just getting a head start on this soon to be growing trend. Now the “living” part of living coral is unclear to me… as in coral before it dies when it is brought out of the water? Does that mean faded or dull coral should be called dead coral? I will research and report back, but regardless, I’m stoked it is bright coral.

I wore this dress to my sister-in-law’s bridal shower this past Sunday. We were on balloon duty so naturally I took advantage and snapped a photo with all 30 balloons because 1- they were pretty colors, and 2- I had 30 balloons sooo why not.

Go check out the colors on sale, I promise you won’t regret it! The long sleeve version is on sale too in some colors I’ve linked those too!

Holiday Looks!

The Holidays are in full swing which means parties and get togethers, which therefore means party outfits are in need! I love dressing up for the holidays and even more, I love planning for dressing up for the holidays. I always wish I had a bunch of fancy parties to go to so I have an excuse to dress up, however this year, I have been really into dressing up more casual outfits. This is totally unlike me, considering I wore JEANS ON THANKSGIVING. I ALWAYS plan on a dress, but this year I was really digging the jeans and sweater look.

Anywho, Amanda and I did a try on haul at Nordstrom for some fun and different holiday looks. All items are linked below!

Burgundy is always a good holiday color whether it is the majority of your look, or your one pop of color. Both looks can be dressed up or down with either heels, boots, or booties (I especially love this scarf Amanda found!). Linked below:

Left: Sweater | SkirtRight: Sweater | Jeans | Scarf

Corduroy skirts are SO FUN! I love that they can be dressy or causal. Paired with a loose print top and they are perfect for a family get together. Again, both can be dressed up or down with heels, booties, or boots! Linked below:

Left: Top | SkirtRight: Top | Skirt

Despite the fact that I have been drawn to more casual looks this year, I am still a sucker for holiday dresses, and how cute are these two lace ones for ASTR?! I really want ad excuse to NEED these! Linked below:

Red | Blue

Prints! Prints are always a good idea, they make life more fun. Amanda’s sweater is SO cozy and the perfect holiday colors. I was obsessed with my dress, I love the plaid, BUT it runs HUGE! This was an extra small and I was still pinching the back for this photo. Mind you, it is supposed to fit loose, but still, order a size down. I think both of these looks would pair best with heels, especially the sweater as it is so casual. Linked below:

Left: Sweater | JeansRight: Top | Dress

Amanda and I didn’t even notice that we came back to the fitting rooms with the same shirt, but both had different bottoms in mind! It is super cute but I highly recommend the bralette underneath like Amanda did, it is super loose and you would be able to see a regular bra. Also Amanda swapped the skirt for the center shirt for a dressier look, but still corduroy! Linked below:

Left: Top | Bralette | JeansCenter: Top | SkirtRight: Top | Jeans

These next looks are more for NYE, but how fun are they?! I feel like this is the time to get a little more out there. Wear all glitter or sequins, and make it something kind of edgy and sexy. You want to ring in the new year feeling good, right? Amanda’s black jumpsuit is to die for! So fierce! And this sequin top, I mean come on, with black jeans and some strappy black heels? YES! Linked below:

Left: JumpsuitRight: Top (similar) | Jeans

Not going to lie, I feel like Austin Powers in this top yet I am loving it! The ruffle neck is so British, but it is shiny with a slight animal print, so fun! Amanda’s top is super flirty. Sheer, low cut, and ties in the back. Both would be best with a pair of strappy black heels! Linked below:

Left: Top | JeansRight: Top | Jeans

THESE DRESSES. That is all I have to say, they are self explanatory. Every NYE I want to wear a sparkly dress and every year I don’t. THIS YEAR IS MY YEAR! Also, how amazing is this velvet duster?! We both wanted it so bad! PS- Amanda’s dress has a corset type ribbon in the back. Linked below:

Left: Dress | DusterRight: Dress | Duster

Below are some bonus looks I love! Why can’t we just buy them all?! All linked below (all pics from Nordstrom):

OBSESSED with these jumpsuits! Also, I have been stalking that center dress for over a year… LeftCenterRight

You have to have red options for Christmas, it’s a must! LeftRight

Velvet is always a good idea in the winter. Rock the left for NYE or the right for Christmas! You can even add a blazer.

Do you know what you’re going to wear yet? I am still unsure, I am trying to find that look that just calls to me. I do however, know what I am wearing for NYE and I am SO EXCITED! I will do another post soon on more sparkly ideas for that. Stay tuned!

Happy Monday!! 🙂

Green is My Color!

I have been SO OBSESSED with this emerald/forest green color this season! So much so I keep having to tell myself no when I try to buy ANOTHER piece in this color. I have a blazer and high waist, wide leg pants, but I also want a sweater now… In reality, how many pieces in the same color is acceptable to have?

I think I need to limit myself because the blazer and the pants are definitely statement pieces. I have gotten a ton of compliments on both, and both are super comfy because they are over-sized. I prefer the looser blazers that do not have shoulder pads. Fitted blazers can be so restricting, and I have been loving pairing them over a casual outfit and adding heels like I did below. Jeans, a graphic tee, blazer, and booties or heels just looks so chic. Mixing style genres (is that the right term?) is so fun and kind of edgy. I also like that it is not my usual style. One of my co-workers told me she couldn’t figure out my style and I took it as such a compliment!

Both of these pieces are also great as your one pop of color with an all black outfit, the blazer especially. For work I would do a black blouse, black ankle slacks, the blazer, gold accessories, and either black or leopard shoes (heels or flats – preferably mules/slides).

Check them out below! To be honest, I am most likely going to buy a sweater still… I just love the color with my red hair. Stay tuned! Styles linked below:

Bright Sweater Trend

Have you noticed the trend of bright sweaters this season? I have been all about it. I am usually a colorful dresser, despite the fact I have been enjoying dabbling in blacks and darker tones, but I am usually excited to embrace the fall color palette. I love olive and mustard, and this year I am especially loving shades of emerald and forest greens. But while browsing online and in stores, I have been seeing bright teals and pinks and I am loving it! I bought a bright pink sweater from Something Navy’s fall collection at Nordstrom and it is so fun! My sister bought a bright green cardigan from Vicidolls and the color suits her personality so much. I feel like bright colored sweaters are the perfect representation of fall in Southern California. It is technically fall but we still get some days in the 80’s.

Both of our sweaters are sold out, but I am linking a few other bright sweaters below. How do you feel about this trend? All about it or keep fall colors in fall and save the bright for summer?

5 Thanksgiving Looks

I am always so excited about dressing up for Thanksgiving even though the tweet I saw last year is one of the truest things I have ever seen:

i-never-understood-why-we-get-so-dressed-up-for-6982491.png

There really is almost no point in dressing up because we are just with family at home. I suppose it can be more fun to dress up if you have a lot of family coming that you don’t always see but for us, it is literally just us with the occasional add ons. Yet every year I am determined to dress up and usually recruit all the other girls to dress up to. I love when they message me asking what I am going to wear, like today one of my litter sister’s asked.

I am normally very adamant about wearing a dress. Why? I honestly don’t know, I just always want to wear a fall dress and boots. This year, my mind is completely opposite. This may be partially because we are spending Thanksgiving at our parent’s house in Arizona. I seriously cannot wait. I am unusually excited for Thanksgiving this year. I think maybe because it is my first one in a long time being single so I do not need to share my time, I get to stay with my family Wednesday night to Sunday night.

Anyways, this year I am thinking jeans, booties, and a cute sweater. I haven’t quite decided what sweater yet, I cannot make up my mind but I am working on it. In the meantime, I was looking around at Target and decided to put together five potential looks for you all. All cute, but on the more casual side. Check it out, all linked below!

img_0535

This yellow sweater is sooo cute and only $15! This one I have on is a small, but I think I would prefer a medium so it can be a little more oversized. They didn’t have a medium at my normal Target so I am going to go on a hunt for one tomorrow. This would be so cute with dark jeans like the ones I have on and a pair of brown OTK boots or booties (this would even be a good sweater for the spring to wear with shorts). Linked here! *disclaimer: this sweater is much brighter in person, but with my filter it looks a little faded.

img_0543

I really loved this next look! The colors are perfect for fall and again would go great with a pair of brown booties. I have a few button up shirts that I have tied at the bottom so when I found this one comes tied already, I was excited to try it on. The burnt red pairs really great with the gray cardigan, plus the cardigan can go over almost anything. Linked here: Top | Cardigan

img_0542

This fluffy sweater is SO FUN! I love the pink and it is just funky and different. Not only would it be cute with dark blue jeans like I have on, but it would also pair well with black jeans or even white! For this one I would pair more of a nude shoe with it.  I would dress this sweater up more with nude pumps. Linked here!… NOOO! Now all of a sudden Target doesn’t have this sweater online, but it is in store I promise!

img_0538

I was so surprised that I liked this look! I am not a turtleneck kind of girl but the black and white stripes pulled me in. The sleeves on this top go to your elbows and it is just so cute and classic! As for this olive sweater, I have been seeing so many bloggers with chenille cardigans and I finally know why. They are so soft!! I didn’t even want to take this one off. This look would go best with again dark blue jeans or black jeans and paired with black or brown booties. If you go with brown I would suggest a brown belt and tucking the top in (best choice for that would be high waist jeans). Linked here: Top | Cardigan

img_0546

This last look is technically more dressy but also the comfiest. The pants are joggers but a nice material, like I could wear these to work if I wanted to and I may go back to get them. I also loved this leopard chiffon top (but it is kind of a thicker chiffon) paired under a cardigan. Layering is always great especially since the last few Thanksgivings, especially in SoCal, have been warm but it cools off at night. This look would still looked dressed up and put together if you took the cardigan off for a bit. I would pair with black or gold pumps or pointy flats or mules. Booties could work but may be a little off with the joggers. This cardigan by the way, reminds me a little of my Topshop one but a WAY BETTER price point. All linked here: Top | Cardigan | Joggers

If you were in need of an outfit, I hope these help give you some inspo! I hope you all have a great and safe Thanksgiving!
