Bright Sweater Trend

Have you noticed the trend of bright sweaters this season? I have been all about it. I am usually a colorful dresser, despite the fact I have been enjoying dabbling in blacks and darker tones, but I am usually excited to embrace the fall color palette. I love olive and mustard, and this year I am especially loving shades of emerald and forest greens. But while browsing online and in stores, I have been seeing bright teals and pinks and I am loving it! I bought a bright pink sweater from Something Navy’s fall collection at Nordstrom and it is so fun! My sister bought a bright green cardigan from Vicidolls and the color suits her personality so much. I feel like bright colored sweaters are the perfect representation of fall in Southern California. It is technically fall but we still get some days in the 80’s.

Both of our sweaters are sold out, but I am linking a few other bright sweaters below. How do you feel about this trend? All about it or keep fall colors in fall and save the bright for summer?

5 Thanksgiving Looks

I am always so excited about dressing up for Thanksgiving even though the tweet I saw last year is one of the truest things I have ever seen:

i-never-understood-why-we-get-so-dressed-up-for-6982491.png

There really is almost no point in dressing up because we are just with family at home. I suppose it can be more fun to dress up if you have a lot of family coming that you don’t always see but for us, it is literally just us with the occasional add ons. Yet every year I am determined to dress up and usually recruit all the other girls to dress up to. I love when they message me asking what I am going to wear, like today one of my litter sister’s asked.

I am normally very adamant about wearing a dress. Why? I honestly don’t know, I just always want to wear a fall dress and boots. This year, my mind is completely opposite. This may be partially because we are spending Thanksgiving at our parent’s house in Arizona. I seriously cannot wait. I am unusually excited for Thanksgiving this year. I think maybe because it is my first one in a long time being single so I do not need to share my time, I get to stay with my family Wednesday night to Sunday night.

Anyways, this year I am thinking jeans, booties, and a cute sweater. I haven’t quite decided what sweater yet, I cannot make up my mind but I am working on it. In the meantime, I was looking around at Target and decided to put together five potential looks for you all. All cute, but on the more casual side. Check it out, all linked below!

img_0535

This yellow sweater is sooo cute and only $15! This one I have on is a small, but I think I would prefer a medium so it can be a little more oversized. They didn’t have a medium at my normal Target so I am going to go on a hunt for one tomorrow. This would be so cute with dark jeans like the ones I have on and a pair of brown OTK boots or booties (this would even be a good sweater for the spring to wear with shorts). Linked here! *disclaimer: this sweater is much brighter in person, but with my filter it looks a little faded.

img_0543

I really loved this next look! The colors are perfect for fall and again would go great with a pair of brown booties. I have a few button up shirts that I have tied at the bottom so when I found this one comes tied already, I was excited to try it on. The burnt red pairs really great with the gray cardigan, plus the cardigan can go over almost anything. Linked here: Top | Cardigan

img_0542

This fluffy sweater is SO FUN! I love the pink and it is just funky and different. Not only would it be cute with dark blue jeans like I have on, but it would also pair well with black jeans or even white! For this one I would pair more of a nude shoe with it.  I would dress this sweater up more with nude pumps. Linked here!… NOOO! Now all of a sudden Target doesn’t have this sweater online, but it is in store I promise!

img_0538

I was so surprised that I liked this look! I am not a turtleneck kind of girl but the black and white stripes pulled me in. The sleeves on this top go to your elbows and it is just so cute and classic! As for this olive sweater, I have been seeing so many bloggers with chenille cardigans and I finally know why. They are so soft!! I didn’t even want to take this one off. This look would go best with again dark blue jeans or black jeans and paired with black or brown booties. If you go with brown I would suggest a brown belt and tucking the top in (best choice for that would be high waist jeans). Linked here: Top | Cardigan

img_0546

This last look is technically more dressy but also the comfiest. The pants are joggers but a nice material, like I could wear these to work if I wanted to and I may go back to get them. I also loved this leopard chiffon top (but it is kind of a thicker chiffon) paired under a cardigan. Layering is always great especially since the last few Thanksgivings, especially in SoCal, have been warm but it cools off at night. This look would still looked dressed up and put together if you took the cardigan off for a bit. I would pair with black or gold pumps or pointy flats or mules. Booties could work but may be a little off with the joggers. This cardigan by the way, reminds me a little of my Topshop one but a WAY BETTER price point. All linked here: Top | Cardigan | Joggers

If you were in need of an outfit, I hope these help give you some inspo! I hope you all have a great and safe Thanksgiving!

Blogger Cardi

I wasn’t sure what to call this post but when I sent my little sister the photos and asked which one she liked best, she responded, “THAT SWEATER. You are such a blogger!” Thanks for noticing Tab ;), thus we now have the blogger cardi, you know to go along with the dress I call the blogger dress (that has even caught on to all of my friends and sisters). But really, how cute is this long cardigan?! It is BP from Nordstrom and I am obsessed, it’s totally something I wouldn’t usually wear. It is a perfect addition to a fall wardrobe in Southern California because it isn’t thick. It still gives you the ability to layer without being too warm yet is still cozy.

So far I have only worn it over this gray dress, which is also so comfortable from Old Navy. It is the perfect dress that you can either dress up or down. What I really want to wear it with though is a black suede skirt but I haven’t found one I like yet. Or even with my black jeans, but I will probably wait until it gets a little cooler for that.

Fall & the End of Summer

I am always so excited for fall for mostly obvious reasons like cooler weather (even though it takes forever to cool off in Southern California) and of course the fashion. Fall style is my absolute favorite because we can finally layer. Although, this year I was particularly excited for summer fashion. I think ever since Mexico last year I have just wanted to dress up in resort wear (even though I am not going anywhere…). I think my favorite thing about fall though is the feeling. The holidays are coming, all the fall decorations come out, 13 Nights of Halloween on TV (but this year on FreeForm they are doing 31 Nights of Halloween starting with Hocus Pocus on October 1st and I am SO EXCITED. Full 31 nights movie line up linked here!) I think the feelings may even be traced back as far as school days. School always starts in the fall and there was always a feeling of going back, especially in high school and college. You’re back to seeing all of your friends, football games every week, and mutual complaining about class. It is so exciting to be done with school but it is also a very nostalgic feeling, at least for me. I sometimes feel a longing to be back at school as if I missed out on so much and didn’t live it out to its full potential.

That is kind of how I feel at the end of every summer. I am so excited for fall yet I have this sort of sadness about summer being over. It goes by so quick and I feel like I didn’t get to do all of the things that I wanted to do. Every year I start off thinking it is going to be so epic and it plays out like a movie in my head at the start and it never quite looks like that at the end. How come as we get older the days go by so much faster? I know it gets hot super early but if you think of summer in calendar terms, June 21st-ish to September 22nd-ish, then there are really only 13ish weekends in summer. That means only 13 opportunities to plan fun. That may seem like a lot but count in birthdays, weddings (and all of their collective events like showers and bachelorette parties), and all other obligatory engagements we have to attend. Don’t get me wrong those are generally fun events and you get to see family or friends, but they are not events you planned for pure fun. Does that make sense? I guess I am just trying to say that we have limited weekends to jam all of our summer fun into and sometimes that can be hard at the end of summer to reflect on. Also having events every weekend makes the season go by even faster.

img_8557

I think it boils down to the seasons changing being bitter sweet. This change is so drastic. Fall is the lead into winter, spring is the lead into summer, winter to spring feels like a subtle change, but summer into fall seems so huge. It is almost like the end. I love this time of year but it may seem to go by even faster than summer all together. It is September and then all of a sudden it is back to back holidays and then a new year. One last thing and then I am done because I don’t even know if I know where I am going with this anymore. I think this summer to fall transition is harder for us in SoCal because it may be officially fall, but it is still over 90 degrees and feels like our calendar is confused. It is like we are stuck, whereas other states that actually get a real and proper fall are able to quickly hop over to the fall train and fully appreciate it.

I will get over this little funk, I think I just needed to talk it out. Maybe it all comes down to the fact that I have all of these fall clothes that I can’t wear yet and it really bums me out! It is okay. I will patiently wait for colder weather. At least my work feels like the arctic and I can wear sweaters there. Do any of you have similar feels to the summer to fall transition?

White After Labor Day

We all know the old phrase, “don’t wear white after Labor Day,” but do we even know why that is or how that came about? I have heard the phrase many times but never paid much attention to is besides joking that I was wearing white after Labor Day. I also mentally excluded white tops from this rule, you know if I were to even follow it. To me I always assumed white pants and dresses were the only pieces that fell into under this strange fashion restriction.

I never actually looked up why we have this “rule” until this year. It apparently took me 28 years of ignoring it to be curious enough to want to know why.  Turns out, in my opinion, it is good most people ignore this very out of date way of thinking. An article from Marie Claire, “Can You Wear White After Labor Day?: A Consensus”, opened my eyes to this silly tradition. The article read:

The “you can’t wear white after Labor Day,” rule was created to separate the old money elitists from the new money group. “It [was] insiders trying to keep other people out,” according to Valerie Steele, director of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, in an interview with Time, “and outsiders trying to climb in by proving they know the rules.” – Chelsea Peng, Marie Claire

The whole reason this “rule” was made was to separate classes, this seems ridiculous to me and very Gatsby-esq. This isn’t East and West Egg.

“For those who had money and could leave the city during warmer months, white was considered vacation attire.” Chelsea Peng, Marie Claire

When summer is over you would ideally come home from vacation and bust out your darker fall clothes to get back to school, work and life and pack away your “vacation” clothes. Such a silly rule about wearing a certain color. Glad it is 2018 and I can wear white whenever I want and not look like a social climbing, new money wannabe.

I finally got my favorite jeans in white and I love them! The Jamie from Topshop are my all time favorite jeans. They are the perfect high waist jeans and are so comfy and flattering. I have barely touched any of my other jeans since I got these and now I have blue, black, and white so I am pretty much set.

Funny story about these white ones. I wear a size 28×32 in these and Nordstrom only had a 28×30. I am tall so those would not work for me. They were on sale and said “price matched” so I figured that must mean they are on sale on the Topshop site. I was right and they had my size so I ordered them! They came in and were “sateen”… they were shiny space pants! I was so mad I did not read the description well enough. I returned them and decided I would just try on the the 30×32 at Nordstrom which were too big BUT turned out this Nordstrom had my size it just didn’t show online. So I finally got my white jeans… just in time for Labor Day! lol

I have never been one to wear white on white or off white on white (one, because I spill things, and two, I wasn’t sure if that even looked okay). I have seen a couple bloggers do it though and I really liked it! I gave it a try with my sprinkle tank and it was super cute. I also added this sweater in hopes it would make fall come sooner. I am still waiting but have a good feeling… stay tuned.

I also added one of my favorite wedges because you cannot ruin a good look with bad shoes, duh.

Fancy Flats!

I know I got these almost a month ago but I just love them! I am talking about my mustard yellow, embellished slingback flats by Topshop at Nordstrom. When I first wanted them my friends were like nah don’t get those, except for Heather of course, she gets me and yellow gets both of us. I had them on my wish list since I saw them, I even already had an outfit planned to go with them which yes is the outfit below.

The day after black Friday, my style girl Taylor at the Brea Nordstrom text me to let me know they were having an additional 20% off sale items! I took a look and there they were! My flats, on sale, for like $27ish. Of course I bought them, they are just so cute! My outfit that I had in mind was my olive green chinos from A New Day at Target (um yes only $19.99), my gray and white striped sweater, also from A New Day at Target, and my Perry Street Necklace from Rocksbox. Look how cute it is!

Simple Sweaters

Lately I have been loving the simplicity of a pull over sweater. It doubles as a top and a jacket (if you’re in Cali for a winter in the 60’s). Often I have just been pairing a pull over sweater with a pair of slacks, throwing on a statement necklace or a scarf, any choice of booties, heels, or flats, and calling it a day. Like I said, so simple and easy, yet cute and comfy. I find myself saying that more often about my outfit choices: easy yet cute. Either my style has shifted to a more simplistic look or I’m just getting better at picking out quick outfits.

Anyways, this is one of those easy, cute outfits. I got this sweater from Old Navy the week of Thanksgiving (for 40% off woot-woot!) and I love it! The color is perfect and goes with so much. I bought the scarf from Old Navy too but a little while earlier and I was excited to see how well they went together. I wanted to wear my over the knee boots with it so I put on my black Maison Jules pants (from ages ago) that are the style of jeans but are not denim so I love that I can wear them to work. Voila, casual yet work appropriate. I was warm and comfy all day.

Sweater & A-Line Combo

There was a skirt from Maison Jules at Macy’s that I had kind of been stalking. I looked at it a few times, tried it on once, and decided I would buy it if it was on sale, which it wasn’t, so I put it back. A few weeks later Macy’s was having one of their one day sales and the skirt fell under that sale. I put it in my online cart just to see. I had a coupon in my “Macy’s Wallet” for $15 off $40 or more (the skirt was $39.99 and the coup actually applied!) AND THEN I had $15 in Macy’s cash (some deal I got from a previous purchase) that expired the next day. In the end the skirt, which was originally $69.50, came out to like $12 with tax! Talk about a steal, obviously I bought it. It is a little longer than normal but perfect for work and I love the colors, navy and plum. During the black Friday sale (on the Wednesday before) all of Old Navy was 50% off and I had bought an off white sweater. I hadn’t thought about wearing it with the skirt until last night and it came out super cute! Luckily I have plum pointed flats with crossing ankle straps that went perfectly with the outfit, and a navy and purple statement necklace from Charming Charlie. This is a perfect outfit for the office that was actually pretty warm.

Target Temptations

I went to Target today to ONLY get my niece a birthday present for her 3rd birthday and to get chips and dip for her party. I took a detour through the clothes though, duh, and found so many cute things for fall and winter! Oh my goodness I was like “I love this”, and “ooo look at that!” All in my head though since I was there alone. Of course since I didn’t have a shopping buddy I spammed my bfffff with pictures of everything that I liked. So I will share my wish list of pictures with you now.

Check out this open sweater

I tried it on and it kind of looks like I’m wearing a blanket, yet I liked it still haha (don’t mind my face)

After wandering aimlessly I moved on to shoes. So many boots!

Like these

Which are a perfect color. Oh and these

LOVE these booties. And I surprised myself by liking these

And was totally thinking I could wear them with tights and the red flannel blanket sweater.

Anyways I have been looking for pointy leopard flats and found some!

But they had this funky little heel that I wasn’t digging…

So no deal on the heel.
Lastly I saw accessories for boots. How. Cute. Are. These?

Ugh super cute, I want everything. I’m hoping to get everything slowly, piece by piece. Target you tempt me so!
