You Look like the Fourth of July!

I think the Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays to plan outfits for. I am not quite sure why, I just love me some red, white, and blue. Maybe it is the challenge of how to creatively put those three together in a new way every year. Regardless, I just love it and this year is no different.

Old Navy is always a GREAT stop for Fourth of July looks. They just have so many great pieces and most of them you can mix and match with each other. I walked in the store, to pick up an order NOT to shop, and immediately found four items in like five minutes sooo that is where we are. Check it out:

I love creating red, white, and blue outfits but with more vintage colors, like how these pants are not fully bright red, more of a tomato. Plus they will also be great for a hot summer night because they are thin.

Another way to style these pants for the holiday…

This is another way to not have the bold patriotic colors, this tank is actually gray striped but together gives the look of being festive. I also love that either of these looks can be worn on a regular casual day and you won’t just look like the Fourth of July. But then again who cares right?! LOVE AMERICA!

It has been so long since I have done a style post, I miss them. I will be trying to do more again so stay tuned! Below are some of my previous year’s looks for the Fourth!

One of my favorite work looks for the occasion!

Hope everyone has a safe and fun Fourth of July! Below are a few more items if you need last minute ideas! (all items are linked below and all images are from Old Navy)

Fall & the End of Summer

I am always so excited for fall for mostly obvious reasons like cooler weather (even though it takes forever to cool off in Southern California) and of course the fashion. Fall style is my absolute favorite because we can finally layer. Although, this year I was particularly excited for summer fashion. I think ever since Mexico last year I have just wanted to dress up in resort wear (even though I am not going anywhere…). I think my favorite thing about fall though is the feeling. The holidays are coming, all the fall decorations come out, 13 Nights of Halloween on TV (but this year on FreeForm they are doing 31 Nights of Halloween starting with Hocus Pocus on October 1st and I am SO EXCITED. Full 31 nights movie line up linked here!) I think the feelings may even be traced back as far as school days. School always starts in the fall and there was always a feeling of going back, especially in high school and college. You’re back to seeing all of your friends, football games every week, and mutual complaining about class. It is so exciting to be done with school but it is also a very nostalgic feeling, at least for me. I sometimes feel a longing to be back at school as if I missed out on so much and didn’t live it out to its full potential.

That is kind of how I feel at the end of every summer. I am so excited for fall yet I have this sort of sadness about summer being over. It goes by so quick and I feel like I didn’t get to do all of the things that I wanted to do. Every year I start off thinking it is going to be so epic and it plays out like a movie in my head at the start and it never quite looks like that at the end. How come as we get older the days go by so much faster? I know it gets hot super early but if you think of summer in calendar terms, June 21st-ish to September 22nd-ish, then there are really only 13ish weekends in summer. That means only 13 opportunities to plan fun. That may seem like a lot but count in birthdays, weddings (and all of their collective events like showers and bachelorette parties), and all other obligatory engagements we have to attend. Don’t get me wrong those are generally fun events and you get to see family or friends, but they are not events you planned for pure fun. Does that make sense? I guess I am just trying to say that we have limited weekends to jam all of our summer fun into and sometimes that can be hard at the end of summer to reflect on. Also having events every weekend makes the season go by even faster.

img_8557

I think it boils down to the seasons changing being bitter sweet. This change is so drastic. Fall is the lead into winter, spring is the lead into summer, winter to spring feels like a subtle change, but summer into fall seems so huge. It is almost like the end. I love this time of year but it may seem to go by even faster than summer all together. It is September and then all of a sudden it is back to back holidays and then a new year. One last thing and then I am done because I don’t even know if I know where I am going with this anymore. I think this summer to fall transition is harder for us in SoCal because it may be officially fall, but it is still over 90 degrees and feels like our calendar is confused. It is like we are stuck, whereas other states that actually get a real and proper fall are able to quickly hop over to the fall train and fully appreciate it.

I will get over this little funk, I think I just needed to talk it out. Maybe it all comes down to the fact that I have all of these fall clothes that I can’t wear yet and it really bums me out! It is okay. I will patiently wait for colder weather. At least my work feels like the arctic and I can wear sweaters there. Do any of you have similar feels to the summer to fall transition?

9th Wheeling It

Hi! I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend! I did and I am sad that it is over and we are back to work. I know summer isn’t over yet but doesn’t Labor Day kind of feel like the last weekend? The next holiday I have off is Thanksgiving… Anyways, Sunday morning I went out to Palm Springs to hang with Heather and her boyfriend and their friends. We got a daybed at the Saguaro pool and it was SUCH a good time!

Our group was fun, I was totally the 9th wheel but never felt left out once. The girls mostly hung out together while the guys hung together. I feel like I need to express how great this friend group is because it just amazes me. The group of friends is THE GUYS! Heather’s boyfriend went to high school with the other three (plus two more that couldn’t make it) and all of their girlfriend’s/wives are now friends. I met them in January for Heather’s birthday and since then they have welcomed me with open arms into their group. They are such amazing people, so fun and genuine and constantly make you laugh. I love seeing friend groups like this but it is even more impressive that it is a guy friend group. I don’t know why that seems so rare to me, is that rare? I feel like guys don’t try to get together as much, or at least that is what I have seen. But these guys enjoy hanging together and having fun and including the girls (and me!) and I love it! It really makes me want to find a guy that enjoys his friends and not only wants to hang out with them, but wants me to hang out with him with them. That didn’t happen in my last relationship and spending time with this awesome group really shows me that is something that I want. I would 9th wheel them anytime!

The Saguaro was super fun though and I am happy we reserved a daybed. Last time I went in June we couldn’t even find a chair to put our bag on, we just had to put it on the ground (or more in the planter) and hope nobody took it or stepped on it. All of us girls got the fun drink cups (Heather got the watermelon and the rest of us got grapefruits) and filled them with the yummiest watermelon margaritas. We hung out at the pool for almost 6 hours (GREAT people watching) then finally paid the tab and left to get In-N-Out for dinner and then hang at home. At home we played Jenga and stayed up and talked a bit but were all asleep by 11pm. Why do we not party and day drink more often? It is great! You get to have fun but still go to bed early. Who needs to party at night when you can be done and sleep instead? We said this last night and were all that is how we know we are getting old.

Monday we just walked around downtown Palm Springs and got lunch and then desert, our favorite pineapple Dole Whip soft serve. While we ate the ice cream, one of the guys busted out Bean-Boozle, the jelly beans that either taste like something normal or something out of a garbage can. Why do they even make these vile things?! My first one I got SO lucky. I got a white which would either be coconut or spoiled milk, I got coconut PRAISE JESUS. The next three who picked a white got spoiled milk. By the second round the rule was if you spit it out you had to eat another. That round I got moldy cheese and was gagging. I chewed three times and couldn’t get it to go down so I took a drink and swallowed it like a pill. Everyone almost threw up once in this game yet we still played multiple rounds, remember how I said up there we were getting old? Maybe I need to rethink that.  Funny that a group of kids were sitting across from us watching our group of 9 almost 30 year olds gag and moan from forcing each other to play Bean-Boozle… who were the more mature ones now?

All in all it was a great weekend. It felt like a little mini vacation, we didn’t worry about anything but having a good time. I was also excited to wear my new bathing suit I got on sale when I went to the Topshop store at the Grove, I had been wanting a rainbow-ish print suit! I paired my GRL Collective Palm Springs line earrings with it and it was perfect!

Shop the look: Suit (the suit was on sale and they don’t have this one anymore but I linked a two piece in the same print BUT they don’t have a lot of sizes… the link will take you to Topshop anyways, look at their other suits! They have some good ones on sale, sorry!) | Earrings | Sunnies | Sandals

New Bikini!

I stalked this bathing suit for literally SO LONG from Target, and like most things I stalk, I PREVAILED! I found it online a couple month’s ago but of course it wasn’t sold in stores AND only the color I wanted was sold out. On the Target app they have a “notify me” button for when items are back in stock. I did that and waited and waited and continued to check… nothing. Last month I looked at a notification on my phone, it was from Target AND MY BEAUTIFUL BATHING SUIT WAS BACK IN STOCK! Sorry, I don’t mean to shout, I just need you to understand how excited I was. AND GUESS WHAT ELSE? The next day when I went to buy it, bathing suits were BOGO half off! It was like the stars aligned and everything was meant to be. I ordered it!

img_6558

It came in and was just as beautiful in person as it was online. I bought a small in both the top and the bottoms. The bottoms fit great and felt super comfy, not overly tight, the top although it fit, I could probably go smaller #smallboobproblems. I ended up ordering an extra small and returned the small. Triangle tops are not the best for small chests, they tend to make you look smaller. I usually go for bandeaus. I was all set now though. I love how this suit looks so expensive but in reality I got the whole thing for a little over $30, can’t beat that!

img_6737

I finally wore it last weekend in Palm Springs. I am going to be honest, Heather and I didn’t have that much time to be by the pool so we mainly took photos then left. But we are going back for labor day so I will get to wear it again! We went to the pool at the V and I cant wait to go back in a few weeks to actually enjoy it. It looks so cute, they have all these lounge chairs, and a cool bar. I didn’t think it was appropriate to order a cocktail at 8am soooo look for a photo of one after labor day.

*the bottoms have only a few sizes left in all three colors đŸ˜¦ but KEEP STALKING!

PSST! I posted a new video on IGTV from Palm Springs! I am still working on this video thing but it is fun learning! I think I have finally improved on music. Thinking I might try a part II to this video for labor day weekend!

The Windmills

I have been wanting a photo OF the windmills in Palm Springs and WITH the windmills for some time now. I always see them on my drive in and out and wish I could just stop on the side of the road to take a photo! But I have been told I cannot do that. So finally this weekend I told my mom we are doing it! We are finally getting photos! After a failed attempt, we FINALLY found the place. Thursday evening we drove in their general direction and found a park that looked mostly close to them. There was one car just waiting, and another had pulled in right before us and parked, then we parked next to it. Up at the benches there was a man in an electric wheelchair. The lady who parked first got out and kind of just stared at us funny (for an awkward amount of time) and was walking up to the man. We figured they were family and we walked toward the windmills. Turns out we were a lot farther than we thought and didn’t want to pass through the barrier of trees to get to them so we turned around. When we got back to the car, the weird lady in her car was gone and another had pulled in and parked. She also gave us a weird look when she got out of her car and headed for they guy in the wheelchair. We got back in our car and I told my mom I am pretty sure the guy in the wheelchair is doing drug deals… she said probably, we are not in a great part of town. We promptly left. Oops! In the middle of drug deals and here we are with a camera trying to get photos of windmills. We drove around a little longer and found one spot kind of far away from them but gave it a try.

Friday morning after our palm tree oasis adventure we tried for windmills again. We found a mostly good spot and just parked on the side of the road, but the lovely barbed wire fence was not so cute in my photos. We decided to get breakfast instead, then after drove home and the road we took was right by the windmills with no fence! By the time we decided we should stop we had already passed them all, had to u-turn, go all the way back to the end, turn around and start again. We ended up finding a turn off and went in. My mom is the best and is down to do anything for the blog with me! We finally found the PERFECT spot for photos OF and WITH the windmills with no fences and you’re pretty level with them. When we finished and drove the rest of that road back, we ended up right at the park from the day before… if we would have just gone a little further! Still, mission accomplished and now we know where to go.

This outfit was linked in our palm tree oasis adventure post, but I will link it again (ps- this crop is on sale now!)

Old Navy Dress Roundup

I have been obsessed with Old Navy’s summer dresses this year. They have been so perfect and their prints have been on point. You probably know how much I like the resort wear look so all of these palm and tropical flower prints have been my jam. I ended up with three this summer (yes I know not that many but I had to limit myself!) and I want to wear them all the time. Luckily I got them all on sale too!

First one I got was this black floral print dress with a tie neck. It’s perfect with either sandals or wedges and is nice and cool for when it’s hot. It comes in a couple other colors as well but a lot of sizes are almost sold out! Linked here!

Second was this basic swing dress that is SO comfortable! There aren’t too many colors left but I want to buy another. It is so cute with some fun earrings and wedges, or even sandals or tennies! Linked here!

Lastly is this fun little salsa dress. The off the shoulder detail and the bottom ruffle are just SO FUN! I need an actual event to wear this too, I just love it so much. I feel like I’m instantly on vacation when I put it on! A couple sizes are gone in this color, but black is fully stocked. Linked here!

I can’t believe it’s August! Let’s enjoy the end of summer and welcome FALL SOON!

Pineapple Dole Whip!

This last weekend I went to stay with Heather out in Palm Desert (per usual) and it was hot (per usual!). Summer has definitely started out in the desert. Both Saturday and Sunday were 104° yet it felt like 120°. On Sunday we went to the last Vintage Market of the season over in Palm Springs, and we slacked and didn’t get there until 10:30am when it was already around 95°. We browsed the flea market faster than we ever have because we felt like dying. When we were done we headed to downtown just to get pineapple Dole Whip from Lappert’s Ice Cream. We had been talking about getting this all weekend. Have you ever had the Dole Whip from Disneyland? It is the place by the Tiki Room that has the longest line? IT IS THE SAME STUFF! I probably could have eaten an entire pint by myself, but we were good and got smalls. It was the perfect thing to cool us down.

Aside from the Dole Whip, I was super excited to wear this outfit! These are now my fourth pair of high waist denim shorts from Topshop, the “Mom” shorts I have mentioned before (all of which I have bought on sale). I just couldn’t help it with the cute little embroidered flowers! I love that the embroidery isn’t too loud on these. When I originally planned this outfit I wasn’t sure what top I wanted to wear and I was in a rush so I just grabbed this sleeveless button-up from Target. It ended up working quite nicely, besides I love mixing stripes and floral prints. I first tried to easy-tuck the front but that just looked weird, so I tied it instead. It ended up perfect! Find the shorts by Topshop from Nordstrom here, a couple similar tanks from Target are linked here and here, and the sunglasses are BP from Nordstrom linked here! Enjoy and happy Tuesday!

The Flower Fields

Two Sundays ago, my sister, niece and I went on a little adventure down to The Flower Fields in Carlsbad! I kept seeing photos on Instagram of this place so of course I wanted to go, basic as charged. I didn’t realize when I looked it up though that it was an actual place. That seems silly that I thought it was just a flower field people found, but oh no, it is a real place with vendors and admission to get in (it is $16 for adults but you get $1 off with AAA WOOO! $8 for kiddos). We drove the hour+ to go down there, yes just to take cute photos with flowers and I totally think it was worth it. These fields are huge! They go on for so long. Another silly aspect, yet again I was surprised with how many people were there with the same intentions as us. I need to get over the fact that half of my ideas are not really just mine. Instagram is full of influencers and it works, I get influenced all the time!

Taking photos in the middle of the flowers was a bit of a challenge because there is caution tape warning you against crossing. The warning was no joke as a fierce old man drove up to the girl next to us who dared to cross the green line and yelled at her and asked if she could read what it said. Tip to take a photo along the edge: squat low enough so your whole picture frame is flowers, doubles as leg day. Down the center rows, little paths jut into the fields, with green caution tape of course, so you can get a photo actually in the fields. Those posed a bit of a challenge as well. There are like 100 people behind you also waiting to take a photo so you feel pressure, and waiting for your position (either corner or center on the bench) needs to be planned according to the sun. We planned poorly because we got a bunch of shadow on our faces but it was okay.

All in all it was a fun little girls’ day and I recommend it if you have nothing to do or want super cute photos. Another tip: wear sunscreen even if it is overcast… I got burned. Third tip: buy the kettle corn. Go be basic and check out the fields! It closes this month!

OH! Also how cute is my dress? I know, adorable. It is from Target and so is my hat! Linked here: Dress / hat

Pop of Color

How cute is this midi skirt?! I wasn’t sure if it was too circus tent-y, but I couldn’t get it out of my head from the moment I saw it. I decided it was too fun not to buy. I wore it to work but it would also be great for dress up events like brunch, a bridal shower, or a birthday party.

I paired it with my sleeveless chambray top and my rose gold heels, you know for a little pop, because a bright yellow skirt needs more pop…

I got so many compliments on this outfit from the minute I walked in the door at work! I just loved it! Probably one of the best parts about it is how inexpensive the skirt is. I got it half off on BooHoo.com. I’m excited to see what other looks I can make with it. Check it out!

Red, White, and Blue Wrap-Up

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone had a great week and a great 4th of July! This is the end of my week of red, white, and blue so I wanted to round it all up for you. I love this color combo and totally believe you can wear it at any time of year and not just around the 4th of July. Let’s check it out!

Look 1: Cherlynn from the.B.Law Style Panel put this amazing combo together! The top is sooo cute (I helped her pick it out and now I want it too)! This look can go with sandals or heels depending on what event you’re wearing it to.

Shop the look here: Top – Express (this one is sold out, other color linked) | Shorts – Maison Jules (Macy’s)

Look 2: I love being able to dress up a super casual outfit. Without the necklace and wedges this look is just a tee shirt and cut off shorts. Add a statement necklace and wedges and you have a cute and trendy outfit that says you are dressed up but not trying too hard, you know that, “I always look this good” style that I always talk about, my fav!

Shop the look here: Top – Target | Shorts – Topshop | Wedges – Indigo.Rd (Macy’s) | Necklace – Charming Charlie (alternate linked) | Bag – Target

Look 3: There those shorts are again! You can really wear navy a lot especially as a bottom. This look is more color blocked but the wedges and necklace spice it up!

Shop the look here: Top – Express (alternate linked) | Shorts – Maison Jules (Macy’s) | Wedges – Indigo.Rd (Macy’s) | Necklace – Charming Charlie (alternate linked)

Look 4: I LOVE this outfit for work. We were supposed to wear red, white, and blue to work Monday and everyone loved mine! I was told I was the walking American flag. This outfit though as I said earlier can be worn at any time of year! It is fun and great for work.

Shop the look here: Top – Express (alternate linked) | Pants – Old Navy (alternate linked) | Heels – any white pumps! (I am not linking mine because they are HORRIBLY uncomfortable! They are the brand Mix No. 6, I got them at DSW – no offense Mix No. 6 but these heels are awful. Any suggestions on good white pumps ladies?)

Look 5: Lastly the perfect casual Friday or BBQ outfit. Dressed up but ready to have a good time! I am slowly buying into this whole sneakers with dresses trend, but I haven’t tried it myself yet… I will soon!

Shop the look here: Dress – Maison Jules (Macy’s) | Denim Jacket – Old Navy | Bag – Old Navy | Necklace – Charming Charlie (alternate linked) | White Chucks – Kohl’s

There you have it, five options for wearing red, white, and blue! Simple right? Let me know your favorite look(s) and have a great weekend!
