Bringing Cacti to the Office

It was only a matter of time before I brought my love of cacti into my office wardrobe, I was just waiting until I found the perfect way. I had seen a couple cactus tops but they were all kind of pricey. Finally, thanks to a blogger I follow on insta, The Sister Studio, I found a cactus print button up from Old Navy that full price is $26.99 and I got it on sale for 40% off. Score!

Although I could wear this classic button up by itself will slacks, that just seemed a little boring. I have a yellow blazer I got from one of the $10 stores in downtown Palm Springs that I haven’t worn yet. I figured now that it is spring, it would be the perfect addition to my cactus outfit. It actually worked great together! The cactus print is pretty small and spread out so it wasn’t too loud with a bright yellow blazer. I just paired my navy slacks with it but really I could wear either my navy, black, or gray. On the weekend I am excited to try my button up with a pair of high waist denim shorts and sandals or wedges (well before it gets too hot to wear a three quarter length sleeve outside in the sun). Pop of Color

How cute is this midi skirt?! I wasn’t sure if it was too circus tent-y, but I couldn’t get it out of my head from the moment I saw it. I decided it was too fun not to buy. I wore it to work but it would also be great for dress up events like brunch, a bridal shower, or a birthday party.

I paired it with my sleeveless chambray top and my rose gold heels, you know for a little pop, because a bright yellow skirt needs more pop…

I got so many compliments on this outfit from the minute I walked in the door at work! I just loved it! Probably one of the best parts about it is how inexpensive the skirt is. I got it half off on BooHoo.com. I’m excited to see what other looks I can make with it. Check it out!

Blue Duster!

While out on our longboard, die in the desert adventure in Palm Springs two weeks ago, my bffff and I stopped by our favorite store in downtown Heavenly Couture. I have told you all about them before, NOTHING is over $16.99! WHAAAA?! Now I make it a point to always stop by when I am down there (She said she saw one in Huntington Beach but wasn’t sure if the pricing was the same so yes I will be down there soon checking it out). One of the items I found was a pale blue, belted duster (I am going to be honest here, I just found out it was called a duster LOL! I was calling it a long vest).

I wore it to work this week and I really liked it! It is not something I would normally wear but I have been working on trying more new things out of my norm. I got a lot of compliments on it too. My outfit made me think of fall because I added the booties and the color scheme. Now I am getting excited for fall, but then I remembered we still have ALL of August to sweat through. Anyways, check it out!

Heavenly Couture doesn’t really have their stuff online to link so looks like you will just have to go check them out 😉

Happy weekend!

Color Blocked!

Will you please check out this color blocked, pleated midi skirt I found from WhoWhatWear at Target?! It instantly caught my eye. I saw it and picked it up, then put it back. They I came by it again and touched it, but left it again. Then a THIRD time I picked it up and held it up to myself in the mirror. Okay, okay, SOLD! I had to get it, which surprised myself that I liked it so much. I am not normally drawn to reds but I loved this. There are even red slacks I have my eye on. I think I just love how bright it is, the skirt is such a statement piece. The skirt IS the outfit which is why I paired an off with top with it. The top needs to be simple with this skirt, otherwise I would look like a walking fiesta!

High Waist, High Neck!

Dressing up for the office is fun, but it’s really easy to be lazy and pick out something quick and boring. I’ve fallen into this bland funk numerous times where instead of picking my outfit the night before like I should, I rush in the morning, running late per usual (note: I’m always rushing and running late but I am never late), and I just grab black slacks, black pumps, a plain top, and sometimes add a blazer. I apologize if this is your usual outfit and I’ve offended you, but this does not cut it for me. I have a standard and on these days when I don’t make it I notice it in my attitude. I’ve mentioned before how when you look good, you feel good. A great outfit gives you confidence. When I just grab something quick with little thought the day just feels drab. I don’t want to blend in with others in the office, I want to stand out. Honestly it’s going to happen though, some days you just have to be boring, but then some days you come across an outfit like this one. What says the opposite of boring more than pink high waisted pants?

When I first saw them I wasn’t too sure how they would look on, but I tried them anyways and they are perfect! They are by Topshop from Nordstrom. It was kind of funny finding them because I had just seen an outfit on Instagram I wanted to recreate and it had similar style pants.

Next I knew I needed a white, high neck blouse but it took a little longer to find the right one. I finally checked my go to work brand from Macy’s, Maison Jules, and found the perfect one on sale. Unfortunately the tan Steve Madden pumps I ordered for myself for my birthday were actually sold out and I got the most depressing email delivering the bad news. I had to wear my other nude sandal heels from Steve Madden which worked well, but I’m still not over the loss.

Overall this outfit not only was amazing but a total confidence booster, it was just so cute! A guy even complimented my pants (excuse the hurricane wind from me flipping my hair).

Moral of the story, put time into your outfits!

These Boots!

I have a new favorite pair of boots for the season, the dv for Target Marilyn Over the Knee Fashion Boots in Saddle Brown. I had been waiting to wear them because it hasn’t been cold until recently and I LOVE them! They just make any outfit look so much better no matter how casual it is, like this one. This is a loose, black long sleeve dress, you can’t get any simpler than that. I threw on the boots and a scarf and boom, check me out, I look/feel like I put so much effort into my outfit and I really didn’t. What is also great about these boots is that they are still comfortable with jeans and they run true to size (in my experience). They are casual yet the thick heel on them make them able to be somewhat dressy as well, which makes them great for the office, they look better than flat boots. Love. Love. LOVE.

Mix & Match

Happy Tuesday! This week is going by fast so far which is good! The weekend will be here before we know it. As I have said a few times already I have been really into pattern mixing and I am trying to be more adventurous with it. I am also trying to recycle more of my clothes and shop less. I have so many clothes in my closet yet I always feel like I have nothing! Today I tried to pull out older items that I haven’t worn to work yet. This skirt has been one of my best buys and what started my obsession with Maison Jules at Macy’s. It was the first piece I bought from the brand. I remember finally convincing myself to buy it since I had never bought a skirt that was $30 (lol), thinking back now it makes me laugh. This skirt really showed me that paying a little more for better quality is really worth it.

Anyways, I pulled this white and black skirt out and paired it with a mustard tank and my floral kimono. I LOVE when I am able to make a new outfit from clothes I have been overlooking in my closet. I finished the look off with my current favorite heels. The whole look came together quite nicely!

Navy Stripes and Everything Nice!

Yesterday I finally got to wear my other outfit I got as my “congratulations you got yourself a new job, you deserve this” purchase. I have been waiting to wear this one! Of course again it is from Maison Jules at Macy’s (I told you I was obsessed), but the pants are Old Navy. You may recognize this ruffle-hem top because I posted about the polkadot one on my first day of work. It was so cute I had to buy two. They are simple, girly, and comfy, and you can wear them with jeans too to be casual. The navy striped blazer is the most comfortable blazer I have ever worn! A lot of blazers, at least in my experience can be restricting, but this one is so stretchy it’s awesome. I was so comfortable all day which is great for the office. The pants are my new Pixie mid-rise ankle pants from Old Navy, these are so comfy too! I usually buy my ankle pants from Target but I think I actually like these better… shh don’t tell Target.

Lastly, I just can’t get over these flats, they just make such a statement I wear them every chance I get! They are plum, pointed, and have crossing ankle straps, basically the equation of perfection. If I haven’t mentioned before they are from Forever 21.

New News!

So I have some good news! I have been working on figuring out a niche for my blog. I have been so broad and general I need a focus point. I was trying to think about what style I wear the most. That can be hard because my style always changes according to my mood or where I am going. As I was trying to pick out what to wear to work the next day it dawned on me, I spend the majority of my week in the office! Our office isn’t super dressy, in fact we really don’t have to dress up at all, but I like to, it is work after all. Shortly after I decided on this new office style niche, a job opportunity came to me. One of my best friends is a recruiter for the company and she approached me with the opportunity. I interviewed, got offered, and accepted! (I will go more into the new job once I have my first day). Anyways the new office dress code is business casual. This all made me feel that writing about office style was meant to be! I am really excited to get started. Some people think that dressing up for the office can be boring and plain, but I am going to show you all that you can still express yourself while dressing for work.

Stay tuned and have a great three day weekend!
