Ruffle Trend

I am absolutely loving how big ruffles are right now. They are just so cute and girly. I feel like ruffles make you look more dressed up than you are, which can be really fun. I got this light pink ruffle top from the Who What Wear line at Target and it is so cute (see I told you I was really into pink tops right now). The ruffle detail adds enough flair to be able to just wear the top with slacks for work, you don’t need to add anything else to look put together. Simple outfits are great to have, especially on those mornings when you’re running late and need to grab something quick to wear. I paired this top with black slacks and leopard pumps (just for fun) and it was so easy and comfy for work. I also want to try it with white slacks and tan heels next. Wouldn’t that be cute?! (It would work with jeans to for casual Friday or the weekend too!) You can find the top here!

Happy Monday!

Well Hello There 90’s

We always see styles recycle and different trends come circling back around. Last year, and still remaining in this year was a lot of 70’s, hippie, flower child, looks of flairs and florals. This year we are seeing some 90’s trends.

Exhibit A: the choker

I maybe only wore a choker once or twice back in the day and when they came back recently I rolled my eyes and thought why? As usual, the more and more you see a trend the more you kind of want to try it. So I found a dainty, scalloped lace black choker on sale at Nordstrom for $5 and thought what the heck. Turns out, I love it! That doesn’t mean I am all gong-ho about all chokers, I am drawn more to the thin styles. I want a choker to be an accent and enhancer to an outfit, not be drastic and draw all the attention. Adding a thin choker to a casual outfit, like I did here with a v-neck, adds just enough to make it look stylish and not just thrown on. I wasn’t intending to wear a blazer with this outfit, I only brought it because I needed a jacket and I ended up liking the whole combo. I think I have mentioned before how I like throwing a blazer over a casual outfit like a tee but I especially like this one because it is a boyfriend blazer and fits looser.

Exhibit B: thick soled sneaks

Now another trend I have noticed is thick soled sneakers. Again I was against this, until I saw the right ones for me, and now I have two pairs. I got them from Target (of course), they are from the dv line. The first pair I bought are a peach color which you will see here soon enough, and the second pair that I am wearing below my old roomie got for me for my birthday. They are so cute, I already have summer outfits planned which require cut off shorts and a tan (perfect for my vacation in June!). What’s even better is they are only $29.99 and run true to size. Want to know a secret? Shoes are 25% off on the Target Cartwheel app until Monday! I tried linking these for you here but I cannot find them online, BUT I was at Target today and I saw them there still.

Check it out and happy weekend!

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 4

A trend that has been really popular for quite awhile now is midi skirts. You can find so many different styles from solids, prints, velvet, chiffon, lace, tulle, pleats, and so many more. I am totally with this style right now. Not only are midi skirts cute, but they are great for work because they are always long enough! It is so annoying when you wear a short skirt sometimes. If it is a loose skirt you have to worry about the wind, if it is tight you have to worry about it riding up and you are constantly pulling it down. Neither of these happen with a midi (well they could but not as often). I currently have three, and I realized that all three would be great for Valentine’s Day. The tulle skirt I obviously posted already and am so in love with it (if you missed it you can find it here), the burgundy pleated skirt is a great way to utilize a different shade of the Valentine colors, and the gold can be paired with a pink or red top.

Now all of these skirts I bought quite awhile ago but I linked some similar ones for you below!

2016 Year End Wrap up

I think that 2016 has been one of the fastest years yet, at least for me. It honestly feels like it was just New Years and I was at one of my best friend Amanda’s house (aka Glitter It Gold) playing Cards Against Humanity and siping on cocktails all night. Now it is December and we are about to start a whole new year. Why did this year go by so fast? I think a big reason why is because some big things happened. The biggest of all was my boyfriend joining the National Guard.

We live together so I am with him everyday. He went and tested in February and when he came home to tell me how it went he said he was leaving in the middle of April for training. It was so fast! First started the countdown to him leaving so that made time go quick, then came the countdown of him coming back. We had to get everything ready for when he was gone. Our lease in our apartment was going to end in the middle of his training and we were not renewing, so I had to pack us all up and move everything out and live with my sister for the last month. Thank God my other best friend literally helped me pack my entire apartment, I couldn’t have done it without her. My dad, his friend, and my boyfriend’s mom all came on the day of the move to get us out of there. That move was such a huge stress on top of the stress of him being gone at training. He was gone for three and a half months with our only communication through writing letters. It felt like a movie waiting for a letter from him. There was the occasional phone call but since he got to call at weird times I missed quite a few and was so sad and depressed after it. When we finally did get to talk on the phone it was short, one time was literally 23 seconds. Finally though we had a couple good calls, 30 minutes, then they had their family day that he got his phone the whole weekend! (I am not a horrible girlfriend, I didn’t go to family day because I was all set to come out for graduation, and out as in all the way to Georgia).

Finally August came and he came home! Two days after he returned we moved into our new place in Fullerton. I am really grateful for my month at my sisters, it was great to see her every day and to really bond with my niece more (we slept together every night!). Also during his training I had one of my other best friends, Theresa’s, bridal shower and bachelorette party. Luckily while he was gone I had so many events on the weekends that I didn’t have much time to be home alone and bored.

As I said, he came back and we moved into our new apartment the first week of August. Then the next weekend we had Theresa’s wedding (now I have three married best friends! Crazy!) AND THEN Theresa got me an interview at her now old job and I got hired! I absolutely love my job, it’s already been almost four months!

So this year probably felt fast because it had some big things. I am grateful for it all but I am also excited to see what 2017 holds. I want to make new goals and I want to still reach old ones. I will have my resolutions up soon. I hope you all had a great year as well!

Weekend Wrap Up

It is always so sad when the weekend is over, especially when it was a fun one. Usually we don’t do anything on Friday nights because we finally get to relax after the long week, but this past Friday was the Year End Party for my work. I work at the New American Funding corporate office and I had heard so much hype about the year end party from how dressed up people get to how a rapper showed up last year. I only know a handful of people (the team I work with is only 4 people and the whole office is about 600), but I wanted to check it out so my boyfriend and I decided we would go for a little bit and meet up with my manager and his wife. I had bought the cutest silver shift dress but when I went to put it on the strap broke! I had to resort to a black dress, my LBD. There were well over 1,000 people there. Around 10:30pm we were getting tired but we could see the stage being set up for something, we figured maybe another artist would make an appearance this year. Soon after Nelly walked out from behind a curtain! It was fun and nostalgic hearing his early songs I had first heard in elementary school. My boyfriend and I decided to head out at 11:30pm.

Saturday, after getting into bed at 1am I got up at 5:45am to get ready and go meet my bfffffff in down town Claremont. She was going to take some pictures for me for the blog and they actually came out really well for our first time trying this and using my camera! It was also a lot of fun, I am awkward, she is awkward, so we just cancel each other out haha! I am excited to share all of the photos soon. We are already planning our next photo adventure exploring more in Claremont.

Sunday I was dead. I had all of these plans of being so productive, cleaning and wrapping Christmas presents and I woke up with the WORST sinus headache, and I still have it now, ugh! I powered through though. I would clean one thing, then take a nap, and repeat.

Today I was excited though despite my headache because I finally debuted my pink velvet heels from my last post Pink VelvetI got so many compliments and I just felt so fancy and pretty in them! I already want to wear them again. Here is the picture we took of them Saturday but of course I wore them with black slacks today to work, and I paired my cream sweater and a gold statement necklace.

I hope you all had a great weekend too!

Navy Stripes and Everything Nice!

Yesterday I finally got to wear my other outfit I got as my “congratulations you got yourself a new job, you deserve this” purchase. I have been waiting to wear this one! Of course again it is from Maison Jules at Macy’s (I told you I was obsessed), but the pants are Old Navy. You may recognize this ruffle-hem top because I posted about the polkadot one on my first day of work. It was so cute I had to buy two. They are simple, girly, and comfy, and you can wear them with jeans too to be casual. The navy striped blazer is the most comfortable blazer I have ever worn! A lot of blazers, at least in my experience can be restricting, but this one is so stretchy it’s awesome. I was so comfortable all day which is great for the office. The pants are my new Pixie mid-rise ankle pants from Old Navy, these are so comfy too! I usually buy my ankle pants from Target but I think I actually like these better… shh don’t tell Target.

Lastly, I just can’t get over these flats, they just make such a statement I wear them every chance I get! They are plum, pointed, and have crossing ankle straps, basically the equation of perfection. If I haven’t mentioned before they are from Forever 21.

New Year, New Blog, New Resolutions

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2016! I hope you all had a fun and safe end to 2015 and are ready to start the new year off right. I know I am. I have recently been really looking forward to this new year, and what got me excited was when I was thinking about what I wanted my new year’s resolutions to be, and yes plural because I have a few!

First off, if you didn’t notice, this is the first post on my revamped blog, this is the first post on the.B.Law!

I have been impatiently waiting for this change and I am so excited. Which brings me to my first resolution: writing. I want to be more motivated and proactive with my writing, and not just on my blog. In November I participated in National Novel Writing Month, where you are supposed to write 50,000 words in a month, well I didn’t hit the goal but it was something I didn’t expect to hit, however it got me writing everyday. Now I have a good start to a novel and I am going to finish it. So my writing resolution is to finish my novel and start editing it, and to have a schedule for all of my blog posts to hold me accountable for posting. I have a cute new agenda ready to take on this task. I also want to put more time into it, no rushing on posts or pictures, I am getting down to business this year!

My second resolution is reading. I have been slacking at reading lately. I picked up a book I had been meaning to finish and was pulled right back into the words and the story. Getting sucked into a book is so different than getting sucked into the TV, it is like being in another world, and just for a little bit you get to escape into someone else’s story. I love it! My goal for the year, don’t judge if this seems small to you, is to read a minimum of six books for the year. Yes, I know six is not that many, but I figured that is one every two months because seriously, you can set your goal high with high hopes and then life gets in the way and you can’t reach it. Six books is a goal I know I can reach and it is a minimum. Reading also helps me write, it gives inspiration, new ideas, and new words. My dance coach in high school always told us that reading increases your vocabulary and she was right!

Another resolution that goes along with reading is reading the Bible. I want to read the entire thing but let’s face it, it’s not easy to read, it’s long, and the temptation to read other books is strong. This resolution is not just mine though. My two sisters and I all got journaling Bibles and there is a one year plan in the back. We are going to do the one year plan together and we get to do the journaling in the wide margins to make it unique and fun. I’m really excited for this.

This resolution may seem silly but I like it, my hair. I ALWAYS curl it and leave it down. It looks good but it is always the same. This year I want to practice and learn how to do new things to my hair, to be more creative and to not give up when I can’t figure out something as simple as a french braid (still trying that one)!

Lastly I have the usual, every person, every year resolution: eating healthy and working out. I have already been easing into this. My biggest problem is giving into myself when I want something sweet. I have a HUGE sweet tooth. My other big problem is soda. I know it is so bad for you but I just love a nice cold coke. Cutting it out completely seems to never last so I will definitely be cutting down. I am also going back to no gluten. I did an experiment where I didn’t eat gluten for two months and I didn’t get one migraine! For those of you who know me know that is a miracle. I usually get AT LEAST one migraine a week. Not eating gluten is no easy task, I just love bread, but if I did it then I can do it again, so from now on NO BREAD! Excuse me while I cry in the corner. As for working out, I feel like I have a motivation I haven’t had in past years. I think because now that I work a desk job and am not managing a retail store I am getting a tad squishy in places that have never been squishy. So this girl will be getting a new pair of Nikes and getting her butt in gear!

Anyways, sorry for the long post but I am so excited for everything to come! Have a great New Year’s weekend and welcome to the.B.Law!
