Lately I have been loving the simplicity of a pull over sweater. It doubles as a top and a jacket (if you’re in Cali for a winter in the 60’s). Often I have just been pairing a pull over sweater with a pair of slacks, throwing on a statement necklace or a scarf, any choice of booties, heels, or flats, and calling it a day. Like I said, so simple and easy, yet cute and comfy. I find myself saying that more often about my outfit choices: easy yet cute. Either my style has shifted to a more simplistic look or I’m just getting better at picking out quick outfits.
Anyways, this is one of those easy, cute outfits. I got this sweater from Old Navy the week of Thanksgiving (for 40% off woot-woot!) and I love it! The color is perfect and goes with so much. I bought the scarf from Old Navy too but a little while earlier and I was excited to see how well they went together. I wanted to wear my over the knee boots with it so I put on my black Maison Jules pants (from ages ago) that are the style of jeans but are not denim so I love that I can wear them to work. Voila, casual yet work appropriate. I was warm and comfy all day.

I have a new favorite pair of boots for the season, the dv for Target Marilyn Over the Knee Fashion Boots in Saddle Brown. I had been waiting to wear them because it hasn’t been cold until recently and I LOVE them! They just make any outfit look so much better no matter how casual it is, like this one. This is a loose, black long sleeve dress, you can’t get any simpler than that. I threw on the boots and a scarf and boom, check me out, I look/feel like I put so much effort into my outfit and I really didn’t. What is also great about these boots is that they are still comfortable with jeans and they run true to size (in my experience). They are casual yet the thick heel on them make them able to be somewhat dressy as well, which makes them great for the office, they look better than flat boots. Love. Love. LOVE.

I love wearing dresses. Not only are they cute but they are just so easy. I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before but it’s a whole outfit in one piece of clothing. Anything you add to it just enhances it. I found this purple floral dress at Target and I was so surprised. The style and print are so cute, their Xhilaration brand has really been stepping up their style and have come out with a lot of cute new dresses. I love how girly this one makes me feel.
Although this dress does perfectly well on its own, for work purposes I added a striped white and navy blazer. The pattern doesn’t match but I have been so into that lately, ESPECIALLY stripes and floral prints. It just works. I also loved the whole color scheme: navy, purple, and white. As for shoes, instead of pairing my perfectly matching navy pumps, I tried nude heels and it worked! I took a chance with these ones as the heel is a nude snakeskin but the color is subtle enough to blend. When I wore this outfit out I ended up wearing a chunky nude sandal heel by Steve Madden.
This dress can quickly be changed from work to a more casual/going out outfit. I ditched the blazer and heels and added a blue statement necklace and over the knee taupe boots. So. Perfect. This definitely might be a holiday party combo.

This outfit I have been waiting to wear forEVER! Even before I bought all the pieces I was still anticipating wearing it. I saw something similar on Pinterest and was so determined to make it my own! Looking on Pinterest, I pinned this 14 weeks ago! That is how determined I was!
When I have an outfit in mind, it tends to just fall into place. I know what I want so I will not settle for something less, so if it takes me a little longer to find it then it is all worth it for it to be perfect. I finally found the right dress when I was in Old Navy looking for a dress for Thanksgiving. The dress in the picture is more of a bodycon, but I wanted something looser. I found the perfect textured, black shift dress with three-quarter length sleeves, and was loose yet somewhat fitted. The kind of fitted where when you walked it would form to your body rather than flow. (It was also 40% so what other convincing did I need).
Next I got the boots. I have been seeing these over the knee boots all over Instagram and I wanted them! My go to is Macy’s because I have a Macy’s card (seriously so dangerous). I looked up Steve Madden and there they were, the GORGEOUS, but only black! I wanted the gray I kept seeing. I tell you I stalked the Macy’s website almost everyday. Finally when I checked for like the 50th time, they had another color! The picture looked gray but the description said taupe. BUT THEY ONLY HAD SIZE 9! Someone must have returned them. I didn’t give up though, I kept stalking. Finally they had all the sizes, yet the picture still showed gray but the description said taupe. I knew they were different because I did my research on the Steve Madden website, fashion is serious, some research required (lol!). I ordered them anyways, and if they came in and were actually taupe and I didn’t like them, then I could return them. Again, these were on sale too or I probably would not have bought them. Well they came in and were the perfect color, I was actually glad they were not gray because the tone of taupe they are can go with pretty much anything!
Lastly the blanket scarf. I remember Audree from Simply Audree Kate, said last year I think that she got one from Amazon. I searched and found one for $7! It kind of took awhile to come in but once it did, my outfit was complete! I just needed a place to wear it, when the perfect opportunity came, my roomie’s birthday (which is actually today- Happy Birthday!) but we went to brunch yesterday at the Saddle Ranch in Orange. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and a great weekend, I know I did. It was small and nice with family, full of food and obviously style! I had my outfit picked out two days before Thanksgiving even came! It came to me when I was falling asleep, I’ve said before, my best ideas come when I am falling asleep…that can be very frustrating especially when you wake up the next morning and can’t remember, all you remember is that you had a great idea! Anyways, I was in Old Navy and discovered that EVERYTHING was 40% off. I had been looking for a black dress specifically to wear with boots that you’ll soon see, once I see them since I accidentally had them delivered to my parents and didn’t realize before I hit submit checkout. Well I tried on a few black dresses and the one I really liked they didn’t have my size, so while looking around for more I saw they had grey, which although very cute, wouldn’t go with my new boots as they are also grey. The grey dress was by a different black dress that I actually ended up loving and bought, which you’ll see once I get my boots and wear them together (I can’t wait!).
When I went to bed that night it came to me! I wanted that grey dress now, to wear with my cream knee highs and cognac Madden Girl boots. It sounded perfect. I had the socks and boots, all I needed was the dress, and a long gold necklace. I went to the Old Navy by my work when I got off the next day and of course they did not have my size in the dress. So I went out of my way on the way home to go back to the Old Navy I was at the night before. Luckily they had ONE left in my size. I bought it, I didn’t even try it on, I was sure it would fit. The next day I went to Charming Charlie after work to find a necklace, I had a coupon of course, and ended up making out there! You’ll see these new necklaces throughout my upcoming posts since I am excited to wear them all. I happened to find the exact kind of necklace I was looking for. I love it when things work out this easily!
In the end, I was very pleased with how this outfit turned out and I already want to wear it again!
My sisters even came in grey dresses! It’s becoming a tradition I think to match on Thanksgiving since my little sister and I did last year too on accident!

Today’s outfit got several different reactions. The girls at work all thought it was cute and fun. One of the guys at work asked why I was going for the “old lady” look, and finally my boyfriend asked why I was dressed like a grandma. Don’t boys know anything?! I wore this because it is cute obviously. It’s cold outside, this is a sweater, it just happens to have a cat on it, which I also happen to like cats!
Anyways I don’t care what boys think because they clearly know nothing about fashion. I got this sweater from who else but Maison Jules at Macy’s, and just look how cute it is! I paired it with a denim collard button up with the cuffs out of the ends of the sleeves, black skinnies (which you can find here also from Maison Jules which are SOO comfy), low heeled brown boots, and topped it off with a double strand of pearls. Yes I agree it is old fashioned but it doesn’t make it any less cute! Check it out…

PS- update on NANOWRIMO… I got behind because I got home late yesterday from a family matter, but don’t worry! I’m almost caught up. I think I should be at 5,000 words and I’m at 3,335 which is exactly two days. So since it’s day three I can split today’s words into two and be totally caught up by Thursday… Well that’s the plan so we will see!

Plaid and Polka Dots
I know plaid and polka dots may sound like a weird combination, but don’t knock it before you see it! If you’re daring enough, try pattern mixing, it is actually fun and you can make some cute outfits. I know my sisters would be so proud of me because I am usually always the matching one. These still kind of match though with the colors. Anyways this is a perfect winter outfit for really any occasion: going out, at work, in class, or even doing nothing but you still want to look cute. You know, like when you need to run to Target and you still want to look cute but not like you’re trying to look cute for Target. It is an effortlessly cute outfit. Not to mention it is pretty warm and cozy. I rocked these socks slightly scrunched down with black Steve Madden combat boots, thick warm black leggings (these can be substituted with any tight black bottoms), a navy, white, and red flannel from Target, a button up, navy cardigan from G Stage (the sleeves of the flannel HAVE to come out of the bottom of the sleeves of the cardigan and cuffed over to make this outfit work otherwise it is kind of dark, it just adds a little extra), and a navy and gold statement necklace from Charming Charlie. I went to Target today to ONLY get my niece a birthday present for her 3rd birthday and to get chips and dip for her party. I took a detour through the clothes though, duh, and found so many cute things for fall and winter! Oh my goodness I was like “I love this”, and “ooo look at that!” All in my head though since I was there alone. Of course since I didn’t have a shopping buddy I spammed my bfffff with pictures of everything that I liked. So I will share my wish list of pictures with you now.

So as promised, the details from today’s outfit! I love when you wake up excited for the day because you can’t wait to wear the outfit that you picked out. See style and fashion can affect your mood! If you look good, you feel good! Anyways I was SO EXCITED that my Maison Jules vest finally came in (from my last post Deals and Steals)! I say finally like it was forever but it was really like 3 whole days haha. Of course since my vest came in last night I wanted to wear it today. I couldn’t think of what to wear it with though. Finally while trying to fall asleep it came to me. My best thoughts always come to me when I am about to fall asleep and I am convinced I will remember them in the morning, that is a serious gamble. I remembered though! Today was the coolest day of the week at a whole 79 degrees so I took full advantage and busted out my boots! These Madden Girl boots have probably been one of my best investments, I think this is my 4th year with them, but not the point. I paired my new olive green vest with a loose, striped, shift tank dress, knee high ruffle socks, my camel colored boots, and topped it off with a nude statement necklace. I was so pleased with how it came out! I can’t wait for all of the other ways I can style this vest. So far I have another outfit in mind that is inspired off a picture I saw on Instagram, but it is still too hot for that outfit. Check out today’s though!
