Eliza Bean Designs!

Hi all! If you follow me on Instagram, which I would hope we are good enough friends that you do… LOL, then you may have seen one of my latest posts featuring beautiful bracelets by Eliza Bean Designs (if you didn’t, click here). Now I told Liz I wanted to write a blog to go along with the bracelets I received from her. I sent her some questions just so I could get some background and good info for my post, and her answers came back so beautiful and story like, I almost teared up reading them (I think something is wrong with me lately, so sappy HAHA!). Since her responses were so great, I want to share a lot of her words, so I think I will turn this post into a sort of interview. Read on to know her story, it inspired me!

When did your business start?

I filed for my business name in August 2018 and opened my Etsy store in October 2018.  I started my Instagram and Facebook page about four months ago. That is when I really feel my business started. Prior to that I hadn’t done any posting or advertising of my designs

Why did you start your business?

Starting my business was something God put on my heart to do. I had made a handful of bracelets in July 2018 and my friends and family really liked them. At that point I wasn’t confident in my designs, but I felt the need to keep creating. After fighting with a lot of fear, I decided I had to start my own business. Making bracelets didn’t feel like just a hobby. I felt that I had finally found my passion at the age of 50.  Better late than never, right? For several years prior to starting my business, I had been through a lot of stress that made me very sick physically and emotionally. I have a strong faith and prayed daily for God to give me the strength to get through each day. I woke up one morning with the thought to make a bracelet to get my mind off of the stress. This was so out of the blue and nothing I had done before. My mom had made jewelry as a hobby in the past and had beads left over. I found that when I was making a bracelet, my mind was at peace. I would put music on and create, it felt incredible! God pulled me out of darkness with something as simple as making bracelets. The thought to start my own business came pretty quickly.

Was/is beading a hobby?

If I wasn’t making a bracelet, I was thinking about making one. Ideas would come to me in the middle of the night. That pretty much confirmed passion, not hobby. I have always loved to create, but I had never made bracelets. In high school I used to make myself funky earrings with plastic beads. At the time, there was a feed supply in downtown Upland that sold plastic beads and jewelry findings along with all of the feed and animals they sold there. I was a regular there in the eighties. I always found it funny that they sold beads inside of a feed store.

How do you come up with your designs? Where do you get inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from everyday life. I enjoy being outside. Many of my designs come from the colors of nature. I love earth-tones and use matte colored gemstones and wood beads that have those colors. My beach collection came to me from staring at a picture of the beach that I have in my office. I was thinking of sitting on the beach listening to the waves, relaxing. Design ideas started coming to mind. I had not used smooth (shiny) gemstones before this collection, I would always gravitate to the matte gemstones. The colors in the smooth gemstones remind me of the water and sand,  I had to use them! I still used matte gemstones for all of the white in that collection, they remind me of the clouds. I had planned to make 8 or 10 beach inspired bracelets, I ended up making over 30! Most of the time I start with an idea, then choose the gemstones. There are days I can make bracelet after bracelet, the ideas keep coming. Some days I stare at a strand of beads for what seems like hours before a design comes to mind. I make a list of gemstones needed for a design prior to going to the bead store. If I don’t have a list, I will leave with A LOT more than what I intended to. The first time I went to a bead store, I felt euphoria, okay maybe not euphoria, but pretty close! The vision of all of the beads laying on table after table was pure joy to me.

Do you make custom orders?

I love making custom orders! My favorite is when someone asks me to make something with a specific color, but no other directions. I have to determine what that particular person will like style wise. There’s always that little bit of nervousness when they pick up their order, wondering if they are going to like it.   One of my favorites was for a ballerina that had just been accepted to New York City’s School of Ballet. I searched until I found the perfect 3D tutu charm for it. I have an obsession with charms, or so I’ve been told. I’ve made custom bracelets for hobbies, sports, school spirit, and military service. Custom orders are a unique challenge. I have to fit the bracelet design to the person. I’ve made orders based on being told what someone’s personality is like, then asked to make a bracelet that will fit their style. Those are really fun!

Do you want to expand into more than bracelets?

The thought of making necklaces and earrings excites me. I will be making those in the near future. I have also been asked to make anklets, so that’s something I will be doing at some point. I am going to try my hand at wire wrapping in a few weeks and making my own charms.

As I have already said, I LOVE my bracelets. I especially love the fact that she uses earth-tones. This makes them easily match and go with so many different looks and outfits. They are a fun and dainty addition whether you’re dressing up or just going casual. They are also a great quality. You can feel it in the weight of the beads, they are sturdy and well done. I really encourage you to find Liz on Instagram and on Etsy. Her story as you read is inspiring and her work is truly amazing.

Thank you so much Liz for this opportunity to work with you ❤

Rocksbox #2

My Rocksbox this month may have been even prettier than my last! I got two pairs of earrings and another GORGEOUS statement necklace. I am not going to lie, I was very close to wanting to buy all three items but had some self control!

First up, these perfect Ava Rose Austin Earrings in Gold and Mother of Pearl. Did I say they were perfect already? The color lets them go with SO MUCH and can be worn with a dressy or casual outfit. I wore them to dress up my slightly dressed down work outfit. What is also great about them is they are not too heavy. I love statement earrings or dangly ones in general but I usually cant wear them all day because my ears start hurting. It is funny, I used to never think I would like earrings like these, who knew?!

Second! These fun Aster Linnea Earrings in mixed Metal. I feel like I had fireworks hanging from my ears! These are really an eye catcher, I got a lot of compliments on them. In my option they are a bit more edgy, which I try to do sometimes… but doesn’t always work out for me. I’ve said before, my coworkers are always ALL in black and I’m over there in our meeting in like bright pink LOL! These earrings are a little heavier than the first but still weren’t bad.

Lastly, the beautiful necklace! Again it is by Perry Street, like the last one that I ended up buying, and the other one I got on clearance from Rocksbox (for $19!) that I haven’t showed you yet… Clearly Perry Street is my favorite. This one is called the Vega Statement Necklace. All of the statement necklaces are just so sparkly and I love me some bling. It makes your look that much better. This necklace had a sort of star look going on too, do I sense a theme of this box? I wore this necklace a couple times, once with a normal simple top and the second tucked under a collar. I love that kind of look for work, it is so preppy and cute.

If you still want to try out Rocksbox you still have a little time to use buy code THEBLAWXOXO to get your first month free. It is fun and lets you try stuff you normally wouldn’t!

Year End Party

Sorry it has taken me so long to write this post, everything has been so busy with the upcoming holidays! I am sure you can all agree. I cannot believe Christmas is in a week from today! Are you ready? I almost am… I think. I wrapped three gifts last night and felt very accomplished. I still have a few things I need to get though.

Anyways, last Friday the 8th was my work year end party. My boyfriend was away at training so I brought my best friend and we had a blast. The “dress” I wore I had had my eye on for like ever. It was on my wishlist at Nordstrom and I kept stalking it. Finally it went on sale for 40% off so I HAD to buy it. My reasoning for buying it was for my work year end party, yeah I think I bought this in like September, only four months early LOL! I put dress in quotes because it is actually a romper. I kept calling it a “romper dress” not knowing the correct term until my bffff and I settled on “dromper”. Come to find out thanks to Socialite via Instagram, it is called a “walk through romper”. If you are lost, basically it is a romper with a long back almost like a train. I guess technically it is like a mullet! I know that all sounds so silly but wait until you see it!…

See! I felt so beautiful and sexy in it! I don’t want to sound conceited but you know those outfits that just give you all sorts of confidence? Well this was one of those. There was one flaw though… it is very low cut which again yes is sexy however, in order for it to not fly open and show off your girls you have to tape it to your chest with dress tape. That’s fine, I put it on and got all taped up. I also brought the tape with me in my purse because after my first experience with dress tape it starts to come off when you get sweaty and I knew we would be dancing. Before the party my bfff an I met up with my manger and his wife for dinner and right before we left dinner I went to the ladies room to re-tape a little before heading to the party. Once in a stall I realized I was completely taped to my chest, and wearing a romper. THERE WAS NO GETTING OUT OF IT, which meant no bathroom for me! Um I was slightly panicked as I feel I may have the smallest bladder in the world. I felt slightly dumb for not thinking of that before making this wardrobe choice.

I ended up getting through it though and we had a lot of fun. We rolled in at about 9:45pm, got some drinks, took photos in the photo booth, danced. THEN at 11pm a surprise guest appeared… SNOOP DOGG! Last year Nelly performed but we were thinking no one would be there this year since we were having “celebrity DJs” which I had no idea who they were. Snoop was fun and we danced to his show for an hour. Once he finished we decided to leave but not before we got a picture with the former Angel player Hank Conger! All in all, a great and eventful night, I just love being able to dress up.

Outfit details!

My “dress”/”dromper”/”walk through romper” was from Socialite at Nordstrom (unfortunately it is sold out since I bought it a while ago but they do have this new one I am obsessed with: linked here!)

My necklace is from Something Navy’s line at Nordstrom with Treasure & Bond linked here (they just got a restock last Friday so you better hurry)!

My heels are from Target and they are pretty comfy! Find them here!

Cher’s dress is from French Connection at Nordstrom linked here!

Cher’s heels are also from Target and linked here!

Rocksbox!

Have you ever heard of Rocksbox? If you have you know how cool it is, if you haven’t then let me tell you! Rocksbox is a jewelry subscription box that delivers three pieces of designer jewelry to your door for $21 a month! You get to wear all three pieces and return them, OR if you absolutely love one, two, or all three pieces you can buy them. This is my first box and I already purchased one of the items… it was just too perfect to pass up!

What I love about this subscription is that fact that you are technically renting your jewelry. I like trying new accessories but I often end up with a lot of pieces I bought for a specific event and then don’t wear for a really long time. With Rocksbox I get to have new pieces all the time and not worry about buying them full price and leaving them to collect dust. If during the month of my box I have a piece I have worn multiple times and can see myself wearing it even more, then I can buy it. It is like testing out your accessories before buying committing.

In my current set I got a statement necklace, a pair of earrings, and a bracelet. My favorite is the necklace, this is the piece I bought:

img_0527

It is the Colette Necklace by Perry Street and it is absolutely beautiful! I have worn it three times already and I already can’t wait to wear it again. It is just so sparkly.

The earrings I received are called the Vivienne Ear Climbers by Gorjana. I have never tried ear climbers before but they are so cool! These ones were fun yet still dainty. It is a different way to wear fun earrings without having to wear dangly ones.

Lastly I got a bracelet by Kendra Scott called the Laura Pinch Bracelet in Turquoise Magnesite. I love this style of bracelet because one they are dainty and you can layer them, and two, you can adjust this type of cuff which is great when you have thin wrists like I do.

img_0528

If you love accessories or you want to get into wearing them, this is a great subscription box for anyone. I cannot wait to see what comes in my next set! When you sign up you add at least 30 items to your wish list, then your assigned stylist will choose items for your from you list. I was so excited and there were so many cute pieces that I added 160 to my wish list when I first signed up… Before your set is ready to ship out you get the chance to preview it and change out one item if you want, or you can just be surprised and see it when it comes in. If you want to give it a try use my code “theblawxoxo” to get your first month free! My sister already signed up and ended up buying the same necklace as me because she saw me wearing it Check out Rocksbox here!

Simplicitly Yours

I generally use big purses, not only because I like them but because I always have so much stuff. It can be so heavy though! I usually do not change to a small purse unless it is for an event, but I am trying to use them more because really, why do I need so much stuff all the time?! I don’t. So please feast your eyes on this beauty!

dsc_0603

I got it from Simplicitily Yours. They are fairly new, my friend Heather actually introduced them to me. Picking this cute little purse was pretty hard because they have so many cute ones. I chose this pink one with the flower details because I love letting a purse be the pop of color on a simple outfit. If I add this accessory like I did here on a simple black and gray outfit, it will not only stand out, but will dress the outfit up as well.  If you want to try new things but are unsure, I think it is easiest to have a fun purse because it is part of your outfit but not so in your face.

The purse is linked here, it also comes in black and white. Check out Simplicitly Yours for all of their cute accessories and use my code BRITTANY20 for 20% off your order!

Dainty Accessories from Civion

As much as I love accessories, I always end up just wearing necklaces if I even remember to. Bracelets are hard for me to wear because they never fit and it bothers me when they dangle down around my hand, especially when I am typing at work. Recently I have been trying out more dainty pieces, like these two that I got from Civion, and this super cute infinity ring. I love these kinds of cuffs because you can adjust them and make them tighter if need be. These thin styles are great because you can wear them with almost anything whether it be casual or dressy. Throwing them on just adds a little extra to your look. Check them out and use my code BRIT25 for 25% off your order!

The Perfect Look Bag

Purses are an essential that we use everyday, how else would we lug around all of the stuff we “need” on a daily basis? I’m bad about this, my purse will end up so heavy and when I empty it I think why on earth do I need this in my purse?! Every day does not require a large purse, which is what I mainly use besides a few clutches I bought to wear to weddings. I want to try a small purse here and there so I bought a white quilted one from Charming Charlie that I think can go with tons of combinations and bring some fun to my outfit. I just LOVE the lips and glasses on this bag. It is cute and funky but still not too much and holds all of the essentials: wallet (which I also need to downsize), keys, lip gloss/stick, and sunglasses. What else would I need when I go out?

Dainty Gold

I have gotten into this bad habit of only getting necklaces when I go to buy accessories. I had $15 worth of coupons for Charming Charlie so when I went I decided to make a change, I was only going to buy bracelets. What usually draws me away from them is that they never fit my wrist, but I have been seeing a lot of those dainty gold cuffs and they are generally pretty small so I decided to look for those. I ended up finding four and they were only $8-10 each! They are pretty popular right now so Charming Charlie had a good variety. These are the ones I found…

The blooper of this story… I was trying to take one of those cute staged pictures of these bracelets on top of my magazine, but I wanted better lighting. So I carried my magazine onto the patio for some natural light and as I was walking out one of my bracelets, the last picture, slid off my magazine and rolled off the patio into the yard of the apartment below me! My bfffff and I just stared at it. I was so bitter! How could I have done that?! I don’t even know my neighbors! So I went and knocked on their door and although I could hear people inside, no one answered -_-. So my bfffff and I went on a 4.5 mile walk to the beach and when we got back we tried the door again. Finally after knocking twice someone answered and I got my bracelet back! I was so happy! Haha that is my tragic story trying to be a photographer.
