This hair is on Fire!

Wednesday was my hair appointment with my sister, the one and only, most amazing hair colorist in all the land… Nicole Lawrence! Many know her from the Desert Rose Salon in Upland, CA, as Beauty by Nicole Breanne! <You can see her page here> My hair appointments are one of my favorite things because for one, who doesn’t love getting their hair done? Two, I love waiting to see the finished result, and three, I get to spend time with my sister. I had decided I wanted my same color still, but I wanted to add a little something more. The last two times I got my hair done Nicole had been using this new color line she had just got called Jack Winn Color. This has been my favorite that she has used on me so far and she has been doing my hair for years. I love how vibrant the colors are especially my red, and it is so shiny.

Now following the Jack Winn Color Instagram, I found the little something more that I wanted. They posted a picture of long brown hair with just a few blonde balayage pieces. I had a balayage before I went back red and it still shows through a little, but I had never thought of only having a few pieces. I showed Nicole the picture and of course she delivered. I am so in love with what she created, we keep calling it fire. Now I am the girl on fire.

Underdressed Phobia

I recently became an advisor for my sorority and Sunday evening we had our first meeting of the semester. It may have been the first meeting of the semester, but it was my first meeting as an advisor ever. It was only going to be for an hour and at a brewing company, but my first thoughts were “What do I wear?!” I figured it had to be casual since it was so short and where it was being held at. I asked my friend who was going earlier last week and she said she was going casual. But the day of I asked her again because things change, but she didn’t respond! I was left on my own! One of my fears is being underdressed. I just picture myself walking into a place and everyone staring at me thinking “She came wearing that?!” and laughing to themselves. Biggest fear! So I always try to be a little overdressed, but in that “I’m not overdressed, I always dress like this” kind of way… did I even just make sense?

Anyways with no confirmation I just picked a casual and cute outfit (which I did not take a picture of… my bad) of jeans, a purple knit sweater, a white, cream, and tan statement necklace from my last post, and my new tan booties that I posted on Instagram but not on here I just realized! (they were only $21.99 from G Stage!)

😍 #booties #anklebooties #style #shoes #boots #tassle #gstage #love #ootd

I thought it all looked cute and when I got to the meeting I fit in perfectly, everyone was casual. Thanks goodness!

Oversized Blazer!

Sorry this is a late post, I have been a little under the weather, but feeling better now! Anyways, I was just talking to someone last week while wearing my oversized tan blazer, about wanting a gray or a black oversized blazer. Well over the weekend I went to G Stage with my sister and saw one on a mannequin! It was love at first sight. I tried it on and was instantly sold, and get this… it was only $17.99! I was even more sold after seeing the price tag. I can’t wait for all of the other outfits I can create with this! This one is just the beginning!

Haute Hat

I see so many cute hats all over Instagram and I finally got my own! When I bought my favorite sweater of this season at Target I passed by this hat and just glanced at it, and later kept thinking about it. I decided that it would go great with my new sweater, figures I would convince myself to buy it, and when I went back to buy it, it wasn’t on sale anymore! I was so bummed but didn’t give up hope, it was after Thanksgiving so another sale was bound to happen. I couldn’t stop thinking about it though and kept envisioning my outfit wearing the hat with my new sweater. I checked online and it was on sale online only. I ordered it and picked it up in store.

A majority of this outfit is actually from Target, except for the jeans and the necklace. My jeans are from Abercrombie & Fitch and my necklace is from Charming Charlie. Also please admire these heels. I think they are so adorable. I had been wanting pointy leopard heels and of course found them at Target, because Target has everything. I love how they can be dressed up or dressed down, like wearing them here with distressed jeans.

Take a look…

Get the look!

Hello Novel, Long Time

So today I opened my novel for the first time since November. After National Novel Writing Month ended I meant to just take a break, but then the holidays happened and I stopped writing. That is going to change now. Working on it today got me motivated to work on it all over again. My go to background for writing is Sex and the City so I started the entire show over again from season one and worked on my novel for four episodes. I think I like to write to it not just because it’s my favorite show, but because I want to be Carrie Bradshaw. So here is to writing again!

Blanket Scarf, Shift Dress, Over the Knee Boots, OH MY!

This outfit I have been waiting to wear forEVER! Even before I bought all the pieces I was still anticipating wearing it. I saw something similar on Pinterest and was so determined to make it my own! Looking on Pinterest, I pinned this 14 weeks ago! That is how determined I was!

When I have an outfit in mind, it tends to just fall into place. I know what I want so I will not settle for something less, so if it takes me a little longer to find it then it is all worth it for it to be perfect. I finally found the right dress when I was in Old Navy looking for a dress for Thanksgiving. The dress in the picture is more of a bodycon, but I wanted something looser. I found the perfect textured, black shift dress with three-quarter length sleeves, and was loose yet somewhat fitted. The kind of fitted where when you walked it would form to your body rather than flow. (It was also 40% so what other convincing did I need).

Next I got the boots. I have been seeing these over the knee boots all over Instagram and I wanted them! My go to is Macy’s because I have a Macy’s card (seriously so dangerous). I looked up Steve Madden and there they were, the GORGEOUS, but only black! I wanted the gray I kept seeing. I tell you I stalked the Macy’s website almost everyday. Finally when I checked for like the 50th time, they had another color! The picture looked gray but the description said taupe. BUT THEY ONLY HAD SIZE 9! Someone must have returned them. I didn’t give up though, I kept stalking. Finally they had all the sizes, yet the picture still showed gray but the description said taupe. I knew they were different because I did my research on the Steve Madden website, fashion is serious, some research required (lol!). I ordered them anyways, and if they came in and were actually taupe and I didn’t like them, then I could return them. Again, these were on sale too or I probably would not have bought them. Well they came in and were the perfect color, I was actually glad they were not gray because the tone of taupe they are can go with pretty much anything!

Lastly the blanket scarf. I remember Audree from Simply Audree Kate, said last year I think that she got one from Amazon. I searched and found one for $7! It kind of took awhile to come in but once it did, my outfit was complete! I just needed a place to wear it, when the perfect opportunity came, my roomie’s birthday (which is actually today- Happy Birthday!) but we went to brunch yesterday at the Saddle Ranch in Orange. It was a hit! Check it out…

You can find the entire outfit with these links!

Dress: Old Navy

Boots: Steve Madden from Macy’s

Favorite Things

My Favorite Things

I want start a new thing where I share some of my favorite things with you all. Please feel free to share back your favorites so we can all learn about new, well new anything!

The first two things I want to share are my new Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the color Patina, basically a lip stain, and let me tell you, it is amazing. It literally stays all day, even after drinking and eating, I still come home from work with full color on my lips. I have been curious about the Stila lip stains since my friend Amanda, from Glitter it Gold, started wearing the red one. Her lips always look so flawless when she wears it that I was completely convinced that I wanted one. Now I wear mine almost everyday. The color Patina goes with almost everything and is a great warm color for fall and winter. I will definitely be looking into a brighter color come Spring. I bought mine at Ulta and although it was $24.00, it is totally worth it since you just need to put it on once and you are set for the day, so it will last a long time.

My second favorite thing is False Lashes Mascara by MAC in black. I got this mascara as part of an eye kit where I got a cream eye shadow in dusty pink, a plum gel eyeliner, a double sided brush for the liner and the  shadow, and this amazing mascara! The first time I tried it I was amazed, it worked so well! Even after using it for a month it still looks great! You know how sometimes after you have been using the same mascara for awhile it gets a little dry and doesn’t have the same wow effect? So far this hasn’t done that! For a pricey mascara, $22.00, this is my new go to (other wise I stick with my Maybelline which I will talk about it in a later post).

If you are looking for a new lip color or mascara definitely check these two out.

Reflection on 2015

Being that we are already five days into 2016, I think it is time that I finally reflect on 2015. I was reading everyone else’s reflections and almost wasn’t going to do one, until I realized just how much stuff happened in the past year. It is funny how a year can go by so fast yet when you think back, so much is crammed into that time. Sometimes something that happened can seem so long ago and you forget that it all happened within a year. 2015 seemed busy like any other full of ups and downs, however for my family and I, had quite a few deeper downs than usual. We started the year off with my grandma passing away. She lived a very long and fulfilled life with six children who all got married and had their owns kids. Although hard, we knew she was happy. Soon after though I got to see one of my best friends get married and it was so beautiful. Their love is just so beautiful and their relationship with God truly inspires me still. After that I had one of the funnest birthday celebrations I have had, bar hoping in Huntington Beach with all of the people I love.

Everything seemed normal for awhile, just living with my roomie, working, and blogging. Then we found out our Nana was now sick with stomach cancer and dementia. It seemed to happen and progress so fast. She had a successful surgery removing everything, however they are still concerned about the microcells, so we will still see when she goes to the Dr. this month. Having her not remember is hard. All while handling this my bfffffff was going through practically the same thing with her family. At least we truly had an understanding of this and didn’t have to do it alone. Her family is my family and vice versa.

In between this hectic time, my roomie and I moved out of our apartment, she into her parents house for a very short while, and I moved in with my boyfriend. Although it was bitter sweet to leave our apartment, it was exciting to start a life here with him (except for the fact that our place isn’t that big and I just cannot handle the closet space! But that is all part of the experience right? I mean I am sure tons of people use the linen closet in the bathroom as their second closet. Am I right? No, just me?) Just as everything got settled, my roomie found out that she was getting promoted to Vegas! How cool is that?! I was so excited for her and still am, it was and still is hard though because I miss her. I talk to her everyday but I used to see her everyday and now I haven’t seen her in a few months.

Shortly after this my family was hit with more illness. Since I know that she wouldn’t want this discussed all I can say is we had more cancer in someone very close. It was a miracle that they caught it so early and have gotten it all out. The Dr. says that there should be no follow up treatment, praise the Lord! Oddly again, my bfffffff goes through something again similar yet different (I know that sounds strange but it is not my place to give details).  By this time it really just felt like the saying “When it rains it pours.” That is what it felt like, and sometimes it is hard to remember the good with all of the bad. But good things need to be praised no matter how small.

I almost forgot! Somewhere up in-between all of this, I can’t remember exactly when, our mom moved closer to us, like 13 miles from me, and I have seen her more in the last six or seven months than I have in the last ten years. You can imagine how great that is! Although she still has a ways to go, she is moving up slowly.

Despite all of the bad that happened this year I wouldn’t describe this past year as bad. Everything happens for a reason and although we cannot understand why sometimes, God has a plan for everything. Through all of this I have been getting closer with my family. The year did end off with something great though. My bffffff’s sister and husband had their baby. What better way to end than with a new life of a beautiful baby? I am thankful for the past year, but I am so excited for this new year and for all of the new things to come. If you missed it, check out my post before last New Year, New Blog, New Resolutions to see what all I am so excited about, one of which my blog name changing!

I hope you all had time to reflect on this past year. Don’t forget to be thankful for everything that has happened and that you are here, alive today! Here is to a new year and a new start!

Sequin Statements

Nothing makes a statement like sequins, and I have been unusually obsessed lately (I already have my eye on a sequin jacket for my birthday). I have always wanted to wear something sparkly on New Year’s Eve but never end up getting anything and never end up going anywhere to wear it. This year I was determined! I found the perfect pair of sequin leggings from Target that were only $24.99! I wasn’t so certain of them at first but then I saw a blogger I really like post a picture on Instagram wearing similar ones. I went to Target the next day and bought them. After trying them on I was in love with them! I just love sparkles and wearing them really makes you feel bright and happy.

(My boyfriend saw them hanging up and asked me why I bought disco pants?! He just doesn’t understand!)

Anyways, I had my perfect outfit and finally had plans. We were going to my lovely friend’s, Amanda from Glitter it Gold, and her husband’s house for dinner and drinks. We had amazing burgers, champagne cocktails, and played Cards Against Humanity for like two hours. Finally when it was midnight, Amanda, our friend Stephanie, and I didn’t even realize because we were taking ridiculous videos, until the boys told us it was 12:01. It was a fun night and a perfect way to welcome the new year, with great friends… and a great outfit! Check it out below! I paired my sequin leggings with an off white long loose tank, also recently from Target, a black blazer, black wedge booties by Dolce Vita, and a statement necklace from Charming Charlie.

New Year, New Blog, New Resolutions

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2016! I hope you all had a fun and safe end to 2015 and are ready to start the new year off right. I know I am. I have recently been really looking forward to this new year, and what got me excited was when I was thinking about what I wanted my new year’s resolutions to be, and yes plural because I have a few!

First off, if you didn’t notice, this is the first post on my revamped blog, this is the first post on the.B.Law!

I have been impatiently waiting for this change and I am so excited. Which brings me to my first resolution: writing. I want to be more motivated and proactive with my writing, and not just on my blog. In November I participated in National Novel Writing Month, where you are supposed to write 50,000 words in a month, well I didn’t hit the goal but it was something I didn’t expect to hit, however it got me writing everyday. Now I have a good start to a novel and I am going to finish it. So my writing resolution is to finish my novel and start editing it, and to have a schedule for all of my blog posts to hold me accountable for posting. I have a cute new agenda ready to take on this task. I also want to put more time into it, no rushing on posts or pictures, I am getting down to business this year!

My second resolution is reading. I have been slacking at reading lately. I picked up a book I had been meaning to finish and was pulled right back into the words and the story. Getting sucked into a book is so different than getting sucked into the TV, it is like being in another world, and just for a little bit you get to escape into someone else’s story. I love it! My goal for the year, don’t judge if this seems small to you, is to read a minimum of six books for the year. Yes, I know six is not that many, but I figured that is one every two months because seriously, you can set your goal high with high hopes and then life gets in the way and you can’t reach it. Six books is a goal I know I can reach and it is a minimum. Reading also helps me write, it gives inspiration, new ideas, and new words. My dance coach in high school always told us that reading increases your vocabulary and she was right!

Another resolution that goes along with reading is reading the Bible. I want to read the entire thing but let’s face it, it’s not easy to read, it’s long, and the temptation to read other books is strong. This resolution is not just mine though. My two sisters and I all got journaling Bibles and there is a one year plan in the back. We are going to do the one year plan together and we get to do the journaling in the wide margins to make it unique and fun. I’m really excited for this.

This resolution may seem silly but I like it, my hair. I ALWAYS curl it and leave it down. It looks good but it is always the same. This year I want to practice and learn how to do new things to my hair, to be more creative and to not give up when I can’t figure out something as simple as a french braid (still trying that one)!

Lastly I have the usual, every person, every year resolution: eating healthy and working out. I have already been easing into this. My biggest problem is giving into myself when I want something sweet. I have a HUGE sweet tooth. My other big problem is soda. I know it is so bad for you but I just love a nice cold coke. Cutting it out completely seems to never last so I will definitely be cutting down. I am also going back to no gluten. I did an experiment where I didn’t eat gluten for two months and I didn’t get one migraine! For those of you who know me know that is a miracle. I usually get AT LEAST one migraine a week. Not eating gluten is no easy task, I just love bread, but if I did it then I can do it again, so from now on NO BREAD! Excuse me while I cry in the corner. As for working out, I feel like I have a motivation I haven’t had in past years. I think because now that I work a desk job and am not managing a retail store I am getting a tad squishy in places that have never been squishy. So this girl will be getting a new pair of Nikes and getting her butt in gear!

Anyways, sorry for the long post but I am so excited for everything to come! Have a great New Year’s weekend and welcome to the.B.Law!
