Pink Chambray

Occasionally, as in more than I should, I stroll through the clothes section of Target. The other day I passed through and didn’t really see anything that I liked. It is hard when the seasons are changing and stores are redoing their entire floor set. I decided I was being good not finding anything and started to walk away… until I came across this dress! Pink chambray, how perfect is it? I grabbed one off the rack and didn’t even try it on, just went to the check out.

This dress is the perfect shade of pink and goes perfectly with all tans and browns. This time I paired my chestnut booties from Steve Madden (clearly my new favs since they are in most of my recent posts) but next I can even try my tan heels to make it more business casual for work. You can even add a sweater or a denim jacket to add more. I can’t wait to wear this again! I’m thinking this weekend with the sun coming out! (I am having trouble finding it online to link it but I will try looking again tonight!)

Shift Dress

I pretty much want to buy this dress in every color and print they have. I just love how pretty you feel in it yet you’re totally comfortable. It almost feels like a secret, like “yeah everyone thinks I look all good but really I wore this dress because I was lazy and it’s comfy,” you get me? If you missed my first post on this dress you can read it here. It’s just the perfect little shift dress that’s great for any dinner, brunch, bridal shower, anything! Anything except work for me… I’m tall but I wear a small so dresses are usually a little too short. I think if I got another color though and wore it with tights I’d be okay, I’ll test it out maybe. Anyways here it is linked again by Soprano at Nordstrom! Happy Hump Day!

Long Awaited Combo

I have been waiting like a whole month to wear this outfit and it did NOT disappoint! I got the top and bottoms from Nordstrom. I love these pants because they are work pants yet feel like joggers, AND the back is elastic so I am sitting here so comfy all day long. I fell in love with this top the moment I saw it. I picked it up, looked at it and put it back and couldn’t stop thinking about it. I bought it the next day haha. I love how it is great for work yet can also be casual. I want to pair it with jeans next. Do keep in kind though it’s pretty big, this is a small and I’m swimming in it. I paired this outfit with tan heels for work but you can also make it causal. I changed out the heels for my chestnut booties and added a hat and I was ready to go out after work! I love, love, LOVE this combo! Also, please be proud of my easy front tuck because IT IS NOT EASY. Looking effortless sure can take a lot of effort! Check it out below!

The Perfect Little Dinner Dress (or brunch!)

Happy Wednesday! We are half way there, just hang on a little longer! I wanted to share this cute little dress I got last week for a nice dinner. We had a friend take my boyfriend and I out to a really nice place called The Summit House and I was going crazy trying to figure out what to wear. I knew the restaurant was nice but I wasn’t sure how nice and most, or really all of my dresses were not right for the occasion. I recently got rid of quite a few and am in need of replenishment. I found this loose navy, floral chiffon shift dress at Nordstrom for just under $50! The colors are still great for winter but the flowers make it okay for spring as well. When I saw it I instantly thought I could wear it with my tan Steve Madden heels. It looked super cute and was dressy enough and not over the top! The sleeves are super cute too, they are slit and tie at the bottom. I can’t wait to wear it again for a brunch. For anyone interested in sizing, I’m 5’8″ and I got a small and it was just long enough!

(I’ll have another pic after this weekend! My bfffff and I are going to have some fun taking more pictures!)

Last Pair of Booties

This is my last pair of booties for this year I promise! I didn’t have this color yet and obviously I needed it, you can’t go wrong with chestnut brown. These particular booties have been on my radar for quite some time, like months. I was looking for a tan pair and found these ones by Steve Madden on Macy’s. They are called the PIERCE. I thought they were so perfect, except they weren’t on sale. Full price they are $129 and since they were Steve Madden and not Madden Girl my coupons didn’t work. So I waited and would occasionally check. I even tried to find other tan ones and couldn’t find any others as good as the PIERCE. When I checked another time THEY WERE OUT OF MY SIZE. They still weren’t on sale but if I wanted to buy them anyways I couldn’t! I was so sad, like way more sad about a pair of shoes than I should have been.

I still didn’t give up though, I kept checking. I even started checking Nordstrom, which had them in my size but not on sale. I checked and checked and checked and NO LUCK! I stopped checking for awhile, I was discouraged, but right before Christmas I was browsing online at Nordstrom like I shouldn’t have been and checked for the booties. Oh my gosh they had my size, in the chestnut, for 40% off!! I instantly bought them. They were supposed to deliver on Christmas Eve and we weren’t going to be home so I had them deliver to my sisters since I would see her. Well they delivered 2 days before Christmas Eve (figures) and when we all got together for Christmas day guess what? My sister forgot them! So late Christmas night I had to go to her house on the way home to get them. Seems like a lot of trouble for shoes right? Well get this, they didn’t even fit! Not kidding! I’m ALWAYS a 7.5 in Steve Madden so that’s what I ordered. These booties are so narrow in the toes they were too tight! I was so mad it was actually kind of funny.

I returned the booties and luckily they were still on sale when I ordered an 8 and thank goodness Nordstrom does free shipping. So there they were ordered. When I went to check the tracking when I got the notification I saw that I forgot to change the shipping address from my sister’s house to my place so AGAIN I had to wait. Finally I got them this past Friday and can’t wait to wear them this week!

See, this shows that when you want something you don’t give up!

Sadly I just tried to link these and they are all sold out online!

2017 New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a fun and safe New Year’s Eve, I know I did! My boyfriend and I did a repeat from last year and went to Amanda’s, from Glitter It Gold, house. It was so fun again. We made dinner, well Amanda made dinner because she is an amazing cook and I helped by chopping up mushrooms, had champagne and cocktails all night, had her homemade dessert (ice cream and lemon-something-something bunt cake), played Card Against Humanity, then played corn hole in the living room until midnight. Their other friends came too, who I like to consider my friends as well now. They had to leave for another party but came back right after midnight. We all thought we would barely make it to midnight but we did! Once the other couple came back the three of us girls ended up staying up until 3:00AM! It was so nice and we didn’t have to worry about driving or rides or anything.

I can’t believe it is 2017. I still can’t get over the fact of how fast 2016 went. I hope this new year slows down a little. When I was thinking about my resolutions for this year, I realized that they are going to be very similar to last year’s. Not that I failed last year, I did attempt at all of them but I think I could have put in more effort. This year I want to be better and try harder, find my inner motivation.

2017 New Year’s Resolutions:

  1. The obvious… working out and eating healthy– this is always one of my goals and one of almost everyone else’s, but this year I have new motivation. In June we are going to Cancun for my sister’s wedding for a week and I want to look my best… and I have NEVER felt my worst. I have ben working out pretty regularly but I guess I have been doing so lazily. Just doing cardio mostly and not being too serious. I don’t even want to see myself in a bikini right now. I have actually been really looking forward for the New Year to start this. Apart from working out (better) I am changing my diet. I am going to go gluten free again and this time around I want to start ACTUALLY trying something new. I am so stuck in the few healthy things I know how to make and although I want to try new things, I somehow never sit down to find the time to research and realize how easy some of these things can be. I have already been making meal lists and finding things on Pinterest. I also bought a few new workout things from the Target value spot: pink yoga mat, pink 5 lb. kettle bell, and a pink fitness bag that you can strap your yoga mat to (are we seeing a theme here?). Not only do I want to feel good about my body and get in shape, but I also want to feel better and have more energy.
  2. Reading– My goal last year was to read 6 books but I ended up about 80 pages short of reading 4. I know I can do better than that. Finishing those 80 pages won’t count for 2017 but after that I already have a pile of 5 books with a 6th on the way from The Book of the Month (BOTM) club.
  3. Reading the bible– my bible has a one year plan in the back where it tells you which pages to read every night of the year. I started last year and didn’t make it very far. Getting behind one night isn’t too bad, but more than that and it is easy to not let yourself get so behind. I am really weird about liking to do things in order. Although I got so far behind I could have still started on whatever day I was at but instead I thought I HAD to catch up and it didn’t work . This year I am going to try my best and if I get too far behind, I will still move forward.
  4. Writing– this goal goes for both blogging and writing my novel. I have like 3 started novel ideas that are only just started. I want to post a blog a MINIMUM of twice a week and work on my novel writing at least 3 times a week. That seems pretty reasonable. Even if I do not get much down, writing more often helps.

Okay, reading these resolutions I noticed that they are not similar to last year’s but they ARE last year’s, with an exception of one. I know I can reach all of these goals and I think I will feel better and more fulfilled doing them all regularly. I am excited to see what this new year will bring and what adventures will come.

Happy New Year!

PS- it has been a year since the blog changed names from Tragic Girls to the.B.Law and I still couldn’t be happier with the name choice.

2016 Year End Wrap up

I think that 2016 has been one of the fastest years yet, at least for me. It honestly feels like it was just New Years and I was at one of my best friend Amanda’s house (aka Glitter It Gold) playing Cards Against Humanity and siping on cocktails all night. Now it is December and we are about to start a whole new year. Why did this year go by so fast? I think a big reason why is because some big things happened. The biggest of all was my boyfriend joining the National Guard.

We live together so I am with him everyday. He went and tested in February and when he came home to tell me how it went he said he was leaving in the middle of April for training. It was so fast! First started the countdown to him leaving so that made time go quick, then came the countdown of him coming back. We had to get everything ready for when he was gone. Our lease in our apartment was going to end in the middle of his training and we were not renewing, so I had to pack us all up and move everything out and live with my sister for the last month. Thank God my other best friend literally helped me pack my entire apartment, I couldn’t have done it without her. My dad, his friend, and my boyfriend’s mom all came on the day of the move to get us out of there. That move was such a huge stress on top of the stress of him being gone at training. He was gone for three and a half months with our only communication through writing letters. It felt like a movie waiting for a letter from him. There was the occasional phone call but since he got to call at weird times I missed quite a few and was so sad and depressed after it. When we finally did get to talk on the phone it was short, one time was literally 23 seconds. Finally though we had a couple good calls, 30 minutes, then they had their family day that he got his phone the whole weekend! (I am not a horrible girlfriend, I didn’t go to family day because I was all set to come out for graduation, and out as in all the way to Georgia).

Finally August came and he came home! Two days after he returned we moved into our new place in Fullerton. I am really grateful for my month at my sisters, it was great to see her every day and to really bond with my niece more (we slept together every night!). Also during his training I had one of my other best friends, Theresa’s, bridal shower and bachelorette party. Luckily while he was gone I had so many events on the weekends that I didn’t have much time to be home alone and bored.

As I said, he came back and we moved into our new apartment the first week of August. Then the next weekend we had Theresa’s wedding (now I have three married best friends! Crazy!) AND THEN Theresa got me an interview at her now old job and I got hired! I absolutely love my job, it’s already been almost four months!

So this year probably felt fast because it had some big things. I am grateful for it all but I am also excited to see what 2017 holds. I want to make new goals and I want to still reach old ones. I will have my resolutions up soon. I hope you all had a great year as well!

Favorite Fall Outfit

This is probably my favorite fall outfit this year. The only things that were new was the vest and the boots (that I have posted about multiple times now, I just love them!). I hadn’t been able to find a vest I liked and I’ve been wanting one for awhile now. Finally I found one at Old Navy and got it half off for the Black Friday sale! It’s so cute, super warm, and isn’t that shiny material, instead it’s a woven material with a herringbone pattern. I have been really into pattern mixing and I think my favorite is stripes and plaid. This plaid blanket scarf is seriously the best and is the best combo of colors. I got it last year on Amazon for like $12!

The Perfect Look Bag

Purses are an essential that we use everyday, how else would we lug around all of the stuff we “need” on a daily basis? I’m bad about this, my purse will end up so heavy and when I empty it I think why on earth do I need this in my purse?! Every day does not require a large purse, which is what I mainly use besides a few clutches I bought to wear to weddings. I want to try a small purse here and there so I bought a white quilted one from Charming Charlie that I think can go with tons of combinations and bring some fun to my outfit. I just LOVE the lips and glasses on this bag. It is cute and funky but still not too much and holds all of the essentials: wallet (which I also need to downsize), keys, lip gloss/stick, and sunglasses. What else would I need when I go out?

Simple Sweaters

Lately I have been loving the simplicity of a pull over sweater. It doubles as a top and a jacket (if you’re in Cali for a winter in the 60’s). Often I have just been pairing a pull over sweater with a pair of slacks, throwing on a statement necklace or a scarf, any choice of booties, heels, or flats, and calling it a day. Like I said, so simple and easy, yet cute and comfy. I find myself saying that more often about my outfit choices: easy yet cute. Either my style has shifted to a more simplistic look or I’m just getting better at picking out quick outfits.

Anyways, this is one of those easy, cute outfits. I got this sweater from Old Navy the week of Thanksgiving (for 40% off woot-woot!) and I love it! The color is perfect and goes with so much. I bought the scarf from Old Navy too but a little while earlier and I was excited to see how well they went together. I wanted to wear my over the knee boots with it so I put on my black Maison Jules pants (from ages ago) that are the style of jeans but are not denim so I love that I can wear them to work. Voila, casual yet work appropriate. I was warm and comfy all day.
