Ruffle Trend

I am absolutely loving how big ruffles are right now. They are just so cute and girly. I feel like ruffles make you look more dressed up than you are, which can be really fun. I got this light pink ruffle top from the Who What Wear line at Target and it is so cute (see I told you I was really into pink tops right now). The ruffle detail adds enough flair to be able to just wear the top with slacks for work, you don’t need to add anything else to look put together. Simple outfits are great to have, especially on those mornings when you’re running late and need to grab something quick to wear. I paired this top with black slacks and leopard pumps (just for fun) and it was so easy and comfy for work. I also want to try it with white slacks and tan heels next. Wouldn’t that be cute?! (It would work with jeans to for casual Friday or the weekend too!) You can find the top here!

Happy Monday!

Loose Peplum

I remember when I first got into peplum tops. It was probably about three years ago when I still worked in retail, I bought two different tops. Most of the peplum tops that came out were similar, usually fitted and on the shorter side, they came right to the top of your pants. Those aren’t my style anymore and I haven’t seen much of them around either. There is a new style I am getting behind though, loose and long peplum tops. My bfffff got me this light blush top for my birthday from Target. The peplum detail of this top is so subtle I almost didn’t realize it was that style at all. I love the fact that it is loose and flows, and is also long and covers up the top of your pants.

For work I wore this top with a pair of black slacks and heels, keeping it simple, but to add a little more I topped it with one of my favorite blazers. It is heather gray, oversized (boyfriend blazer), and stands out. It all went well together and was comfy. This top is also great with jeans and can be worn casually, the buttons and the pockets on the front help make it not too dressy. Lastly I LOVE the color. I am having a serious obsession with blush right now. Pink is one of my favorite colors but for some reason I never really had a lot of pink clothes, but lately I have noticed a growing section of blush in my closet. The majority of my recent additions have been blush so stay tuned for a few more!

High Waist, High Neck!

Dressing up for the office is fun, but it’s really easy to be lazy and pick out something quick and boring. I’ve fallen into this bland funk numerous times where instead of picking my outfit the night before like I should, I rush in the morning, running late per usual (note: I’m always rushing and running late but I am never late), and I just grab black slacks, black pumps, a plain top, and sometimes add a blazer. I apologize if this is your usual outfit and I’ve offended you, but this does not cut it for me. I have a standard and on these days when I don’t make it I notice it in my attitude. I’ve mentioned before how when you look good, you feel good. A great outfit gives you confidence. When I just grab something quick with little thought the day just feels drab. I don’t want to blend in with others in the office, I want to stand out. Honestly it’s going to happen though, some days you just have to be boring, but then some days you come across an outfit like this one. What says the opposite of boring more than pink high waisted pants?

When I first saw them I wasn’t too sure how they would look on, but I tried them anyways and they are perfect! They are by Topshop from Nordstrom. It was kind of funny finding them because I had just seen an outfit on Instagram I wanted to recreate and it had similar style pants.

Next I knew I needed a white, high neck blouse but it took a little longer to find the right one. I finally checked my go to work brand from Macy’s, Maison Jules, and found the perfect one on sale. Unfortunately the tan Steve Madden pumps I ordered for myself for my birthday were actually sold out and I got the most depressing email delivering the bad news. I had to wear my other nude sandal heels from Steve Madden which worked well, but I’m still not over the loss.

Overall this outfit not only was amazing but a total confidence booster, it was just so cute! A guy even complimented my pants (excuse the hurricane wind from me flipping my hair).

Moral of the story, put time into your outfits!

Simple Sweaters

Lately I have been loving the simplicity of a pull over sweater. It doubles as a top and a jacket (if you’re in Cali for a winter in the 60’s). Often I have just been pairing a pull over sweater with a pair of slacks, throwing on a statement necklace or a scarf, any choice of booties, heels, or flats, and calling it a day. Like I said, so simple and easy, yet cute and comfy. I find myself saying that more often about my outfit choices: easy yet cute. Either my style has shifted to a more simplistic look or I’m just getting better at picking out quick outfits.

Anyways, this is one of those easy, cute outfits. I got this sweater from Old Navy the week of Thanksgiving (for 40% off woot-woot!) and I love it! The color is perfect and goes with so much. I bought the scarf from Old Navy too but a little while earlier and I was excited to see how well they went together. I wanted to wear my over the knee boots with it so I put on my black Maison Jules pants (from ages ago) that are the style of jeans but are not denim so I love that I can wear them to work. Voila, casual yet work appropriate. I was warm and comfy all day.

Weekend Wrap Up

It is always so sad when the weekend is over, especially when it was a fun one. Usually we don’t do anything on Friday nights because we finally get to relax after the long week, but this past Friday was the Year End Party for my work. I work at the New American Funding corporate office and I had heard so much hype about the year end party from how dressed up people get to how a rapper showed up last year. I only know a handful of people (the team I work with is only 4 people and the whole office is about 600), but I wanted to check it out so my boyfriend and I decided we would go for a little bit and meet up with my manager and his wife. I had bought the cutest silver shift dress but when I went to put it on the strap broke! I had to resort to a black dress, my LBD. There were well over 1,000 people there. Around 10:30pm we were getting tired but we could see the stage being set up for something, we figured maybe another artist would make an appearance this year. Soon after Nelly walked out from behind a curtain! It was fun and nostalgic hearing his early songs I had first heard in elementary school. My boyfriend and I decided to head out at 11:30pm.

Saturday, after getting into bed at 1am I got up at 5:45am to get ready and go meet my bfffffff in down town Claremont. She was going to take some pictures for me for the blog and they actually came out really well for our first time trying this and using my camera! It was also a lot of fun, I am awkward, she is awkward, so we just cancel each other out haha! I am excited to share all of the photos soon. We are already planning our next photo adventure exploring more in Claremont.

Sunday I was dead. I had all of these plans of being so productive, cleaning and wrapping Christmas presents and I woke up with the WORST sinus headache, and I still have it now, ugh! I powered through though. I would clean one thing, then take a nap, and repeat.

Today I was excited though despite my headache because I finally debuted my pink velvet heels from my last post Pink VelvetI got so many compliments and I just felt so fancy and pretty in them! I already want to wear them again. Here is the picture we took of them Saturday but of course I wore them with black slacks today to work, and I paired my cream sweater and a gold statement necklace.

I hope you all had a great weekend too!

Sweater & A-Line Combo

There was a skirt from Maison Jules at Macy’s that I had kind of been stalking. I looked at it a few times, tried it on once, and decided I would buy it if it was on sale, which it wasn’t, so I put it back. A few weeks later Macy’s was having one of their one day sales and the skirt fell under that sale. I put it in my online cart just to see. I had a coupon in my “Macy’s Wallet” for $15 off $40 or more (the skirt was $39.99 and the coup actually applied!) AND THEN I had $15 in Macy’s cash (some deal I got from a previous purchase) that expired the next day. In the end the skirt, which was originally $69.50, came out to like $12 with tax! Talk about a steal, obviously I bought it. It is a little longer than normal but perfect for work and I love the colors, navy and plum. During the black Friday sale (on the Wednesday before) all of Old Navy was 50% off and I had bought an off white sweater. I hadn’t thought about wearing it with the skirt until last night and it came out super cute! Luckily I have plum pointed flats with crossing ankle straps that went perfectly with the outfit, and a navy and purple statement necklace from Charming Charlie. This is a perfect outfit for the office that was actually pretty warm.

Shine Bright Like a Bright Thing!

You know that song by Rhianna “Diamonds” and it says, “Shine bright like a diamond.”? Well one night when my two sisters and I were together the younger one Tabitha (from the blog Tab in Transit) was saying “shine bright like a bright thing!” It kind of became an inside joke for the three of us. Anyways I wore a shiny skirt and Tabitha commented that on my picture and that is why the title of this post is “Shine Bright Like a Bright Thing.” Good now that we got that out of the way I can tell you a bit of bad news… I bought this beautiful skirt at Target from the Who What Wear line and they do not have it online for me to share with you! Awwww I am sorry.

I saw this skirt and knew that I wanted it to wear to work. It is a midi skirt with tiny pleats and is a silvery-gold color. I felt a mixture of classy, elegant, and vintage in it. I paired it with a nice black, loose tank and plain black pumps. Simple and elegant, and everyone loved it!

These Boots!

I have a new favorite pair of boots for the season, the dv for Target Marilyn Over the Knee Fashion Boots in Saddle Brown. I had been waiting to wear them because it hasn’t been cold until recently and I LOVE them! They just make any outfit look so much better no matter how casual it is, like this one. This is a loose, black long sleeve dress, you can’t get any simpler than that. I threw on the boots and a scarf and boom, check me out, I look/feel like I put so much effort into my outfit and I really didn’t. What is also great about these boots is that they are still comfortable with jeans and they run true to size (in my experience). They are casual yet the thick heel on them make them able to be somewhat dressy as well, which makes them great for the office, they look better than flat boots. Love. Love. LOVE.

Mix & Match

Happy Tuesday! This week is going by fast so far which is good! The weekend will be here before we know it. As I have said a few times already I have been really into pattern mixing and I am trying to be more adventurous with it. I am also trying to recycle more of my clothes and shop less. I have so many clothes in my closet yet I always feel like I have nothing! Today I tried to pull out older items that I haven’t worn to work yet. This skirt has been one of my best buys and what started my obsession with Maison Jules at Macy’s. It was the first piece I bought from the brand. I remember finally convincing myself to buy it since I had never bought a skirt that was $30 (lol), thinking back now it makes me laugh. This skirt really showed me that paying a little more for better quality is really worth it.

Anyways, I pulled this white and black skirt out and paired it with a mustard tank and my floral kimono. I LOVE when I am able to make a new outfit from clothes I have been overlooking in my closet. I finished the look off with my current favorite heels. The whole look came together quite nicely!

Girly Dress

I love wearing dresses. Not only are they cute but they are just so easy. I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before but it’s a whole outfit in one piece of clothing. Anything you add to it just enhances it. I found this purple floral dress at Target and I was so surprised. The style and print are so cute, their Xhilaration brand has really been stepping up their style and have come out with a lot of cute new dresses. I love how girly this one makes me feel.

Although this dress does perfectly well on its own, for work purposes I added a striped white and navy blazer. The pattern doesn’t match but I have been so into that lately, ESPECIALLY stripes and floral prints. It just works. I also loved the whole color scheme: navy, purple, and white. As for shoes, instead of pairing my perfectly matching navy pumps, I tried nude heels and it worked! I took a chance with these ones as the heel is a nude snakeskin but the color is subtle enough to blend. When I wore this outfit out I ended up wearing a chunky nude sandal heel by Steve Madden.

This dress can quickly be changed from work to a more casual/going out outfit. I ditched the blazer and heels and added a blue statement necklace and over the knee taupe boots. So. Perfect. This definitely might be a holiday party combo.
