30 Day Challenge Wrap Up

Well it is September, which means that Heather and I made it through our 30 Day Challenge where we couldn’t buy anything new and had to wear a different outfit every day with no repeats! To be honest it was a little more difficult than I thought, especially towards the end. Wearing a different outfit everyday would be no problem if we had no clothing restrictions however, we have a work dress codes we need to follow which takes out a good chunk of our wardrobes. As long as we planned ahead we were okay. I am happy we did this challenge because it showed me things in my closet I can get rid of. There were still items I didn’t touch even though I had to figure out new outfits with the clothes I already had. Cleaning out my closet should be a little easier now, and quicker!

Now that it is over you can bet your bottom dollar that I bought something already! Just one thing though and I can’t wait for them to come in. When I say them of course I mean shoes, they were on sale I couldn’t resist! I will wait to tell you what they are until I can show you, but I will give you a hit, they may or may not be a new pair of mules… =D.

Anyways below are our outfits on the 30 days. As you will notice there is a day (or two missing) but on our honor we did not repeat an outfit! I was at the lake and was just in a bathing suit and Heather was in workout clothes moving, not picture worthy. Enjoy and try out the challenge!

Unexpected Pattern Mix

There are only two days left of our 30 day challenge and I have been really liking the outfits I have been coming up with, particularly my look from last Monday. The skirt was kind of an impulse buy and it happened to be on sale, but I really only had one outfit in mind when I bought it. I’ve worn it with a plain white top, as well as a cream sweater, but on last Sunday night while searching through my closet I had the thought to pair this top with it.  They are completely different patters (obviously) but have the same color scheme. It totally worked together and I ended up with a lot of compliments. The pink heels helped with it too ;). I think my next go with the skirt may be with a long sleeve chambray top, if the color of the one I have works.

(Both the skirt and the top are from Maison Jules at Macy’s but it was awhile ago)

First Day of School Outfit

If you read the style panel blog, then you know I am a teacher; if you didn’t read it…well you now know I am a teacher. I get to do some input on dating style, and work style; fortunately I love dressing for both. I am going to tell you about my first work piece, it is super easy, but super classy. I will be the first to admit that sometimes it is super hard to find appropriate work outfits, especially dresses because some are spaghetti strap, or too low cut, or too short. Luckily I found this dress last year at Target and it is perfect for teaching. I loved it so much that I also bought it in maroon!

Again, I love this dress because it’s the perfect length, and the shoulders are a great width. The shoes are one of the only pairs I can teach in ALL day, which is saying something because I am on my feet for almost seven straight hours. This outfit is so simple, yet I feel so fancy wearing it!

Let me know if you have any other styles or outfits I should try!

Pop of Color

How cute is this midi skirt?! I wasn’t sure if it was too circus tent-y, but I couldn’t get it out of my head from the moment I saw it. I decided it was too fun not to buy. I wore it to work but it would also be great for dress up events like brunch, a bridal shower, or a birthday party.

I paired it with my sleeveless chambray top and my rose gold heels, you know for a little pop, because a bright yellow skirt needs more pop…

I got so many compliments on this outfit from the minute I walked in the door at work! I just loved it! Probably one of the best parts about it is how inexpensive the skirt is. I got it half off on BooHoo.com. I’m excited to see what other looks I can make with it. Check it out!

Bell Sleeves and Embroidery

Yesterday my old roomie/best friend/sorority sister/and the.B.Law style panelist Heather and I started a month long challenge. In this challenge we are on wallet lockdown. There will be no purchasing of unnecessary items ESPECIALLY clothing. We also have to wear a different outfit everyday with no repeats, creating new looks with the clothes we already have in our closets. Now to be honest, 30 days of new outfits doesn’t fully intimidate me. I am not one for outfit repeating and I know Heather isn’t either. There are days though where I wake up late and just go for something safe, that I know works. This challenge is starting off at a month to make me be creative everyday and could very well continue to an additional month. We will see!

Anyways, today is day 2 and here is my look! I saw this embroidered, button up, striped, bell sleeve top and thought it was weird yet I was strangely fascinated by it. I literally walked back up to it in Target two more times after I first saw it. I remembered a skirt from BooHoo I wanted and thought it might be the perfect pair for this top. I left and didn’t buy it. I had to see if I would still think about it after I left (that is how I really know I want something). I looked up the skirt again on BooHoo and was sold. I ordered the skirt and went to Target the next day to get the shirt. Well the skirt came in and was entirely too small so I had to make an online return, which honestly I have always been terrified to make for some odd reason but it turned out to be so easy that I felt silly. FINALLY I got the new skirt it and it fit! Note about the skirt, it does not stretch so although it may fit around your waist your leg spread really isn’t all that wide. Not that you should really need it to be but its not, and I walk fast and I don’t feel like my legs have the proper speed potential. That sounds totally ridiculous and can totally go off in a bad direction so moving on… The color of the skirt isn’t quite the same pink as in the embroidery but I really like it together. Check it out below!

Pink Pants for the Win!

When I bought these pink, belted, high waist pants by Topshop at Nordstrom, I only had one combination in mind at the time. Now I am on my 4th style with them! Although all in the same black and white color scheme, the looks were all mostly different. First I paired a white, high neck chiffon blouse with tan heels, then a black tank with black heels, then a black and white striped tank with a black blazer and black heels, and now a black and dark-cream(ish) nice tee (that is kind of a weird description but you will get it when you see it below) and black heels. My only concern when I bought these pants was finding something to pair with them besides my first white blouse. Now I already have a 5th and 6th idea, next up a gray top but I still haven’t found the right one. What I really want to find is a colorful print top that goes well with the color. Any suggestions please let me know!

Feeling Sashy

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I did nothing and it was great. Definitely got some much needed sleep. Can you believe it is already July 10th? This year has gone so fast and I feel like I can’t catch up. Pinterest is already suggesting fall outfits. Don’t get me wrong, I have said countless times that fall is my favorite season, but part of the love is the anticipation. Me, patiently waiting for the first day that I see leaves on the ground and the first day I get to wear a sweater and boots. This year though it feels like I may blink and it will be here.

Anyways, sorry about my tangent. Today’s look has been a long time coming. I bought this top a while ago from Target and had this great idea to pair it with high waist black pants. It took some time to find a pair I liked. Well honestly not too long, I found some with a sash tie waist at Express but kept waiting for a sale and it never happened. I was browsing Boohoo recently and saw some that were similar and would do, AND they were only $20.

The two pieces paired together perfectly! The top is great because although it is sleeveless it is still work appropriate which helps with this heat lately! Check it out and find the items linked below:

Red, White, and Blue Wrap-Up

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone had a great week and a great 4th of July! This is the end of my week of red, white, and blue so I wanted to round it all up for you. I love this color combo and totally believe you can wear it at any time of year and not just around the 4th of July. Let’s check it out!

Look 1: Cherlynn from the.B.Law Style Panel put this amazing combo together! The top is sooo cute (I helped her pick it out and now I want it too)! This look can go with sandals or heels depending on what event you’re wearing it to.

Shop the look here: Top – Express (this one is sold out, other color linked) | Shorts – Maison Jules (Macy’s)

Look 2: I love being able to dress up a super casual outfit. Without the necklace and wedges this look is just a tee shirt and cut off shorts. Add a statement necklace and wedges and you have a cute and trendy outfit that says you are dressed up but not trying too hard, you know that, “I always look this good” style that I always talk about, my fav!

Shop the look here: Top – Target | Shorts – Topshop | Wedges – Indigo.Rd (Macy’s) | Necklace – Charming Charlie (alternate linked) | Bag – Target

Look 3: There those shorts are again! You can really wear navy a lot especially as a bottom. This look is more color blocked but the wedges and necklace spice it up!

Shop the look here: Top – Express (alternate linked) | Shorts – Maison Jules (Macy’s) | Wedges – Indigo.Rd (Macy’s) | Necklace – Charming Charlie (alternate linked)

Look 4: I LOVE this outfit for work. We were supposed to wear red, white, and blue to work Monday and everyone loved mine! I was told I was the walking American flag. This outfit though as I said earlier can be worn at any time of year! It is fun and great for work.

Shop the look here: Top – Express (alternate linked) | Pants – Old Navy (alternate linked) | Heels – any white pumps! (I am not linking mine because they are HORRIBLY uncomfortable! They are the brand Mix No. 6, I got them at DSW – no offense Mix No. 6 but these heels are awful. Any suggestions on good white pumps ladies?)

Look 5: Lastly the perfect casual Friday or BBQ outfit. Dressed up but ready to have a good time! I am slowly buying into this whole sneakers with dresses trend, but I haven’t tried it myself yet… I will soon!

Shop the look here: Dress – Maison Jules (Macy’s) | Denim Jacket – Old Navy | Bag – Old Navy | Necklace – Charming Charlie (alternate linked) | White Chucks – Kohl’s

There you have it, five options for wearing red, white, and blue! Simple right? Let me know your favorite look(s) and have a great weekend!

Mexico: Part 3 – The Wedding

Saturday was the wedding, which was set to start at noon so we didn’t have all day to get ready. My older sister wanted us to meet to get ready at 8am. To my surprise I woke up feeling fine that morning. I will elaborate more in part 4, but the day before we got a little wild.

After waking up we realized it was storming outside, like BAD. When we got to my sister’s room you could tell she was a little nervous, after all the ceremony was supposed to be on the beach. Every time thunder would sound we made a joke and would do a drumroll so she couldn’t hear it. As we approached the final hour before the ceremony the wedding planner called to let her know they were going to have to move the ceremony and the cocktail hour inside. To be honest that really sucked. The whole idea of this destination wedding was to be able to have it on the beach. We stayed positive though and although the wedding couldn’t be where she planned, she still got to marry her husband and it was beautiful.

Luckily, and somewhat annoyingly, the rain stopped during the wedding, figures. So at least we got to go take a bunch of pictures outside in front of the water. Hiring a photographer from the resort was really expensive so I brought my camera and my sister’s friend took all of the pictures. None of us are professionals, but we took pictures the best we could and my sister’s other friend who is a photographer offered to edit them for her so it worked out. After all of our photos we had about 3 hours to kill before dinner so we all got in our swim suits and went to the lagoon.

My sister and I had a plan to do hers and her husband’s first dance before dinner down by the beach, and we also had a surprise for my dad that they could do the father daughter dance. Even though it wasn’t a traditional wedding I wanted to make sure that she didn’t miss out on anything. We used a bluetooth speaker and just held it as they danced. We even made them do a bouquet and garter toss.

Dinner was at the Italian restaurant and was great. The best man got to do his speech, which he told me he was going to wing so he had to go first so I could save the night with my prepared one (LOL!), then I did my maid of honor speech and made everyone cry, GOALS! It was a good night, but was about to get even better.

The club/bar on the adult side is Club Heaven. There is a huge bar inside with another room with pool tables and all that. On the other side is a night club. We got to the bar at 8pm and found out the club didn’t open until 11pm EVEN though all the lights were already on and flashing. My sister REALLY wanted to go so we waited around in that bar for 3 hours passing time… with games and drinks… and when I say drinks I mean shots. My little sister made up a game where we had to place guesses of where different people were from. Then her boyfriend would go ask and losers had to take a shot. Well put it this way, I didn’t win once. Finally though, 3 hours and like 8 shots later, the club opened! All of the “kids” went AND MY DAD. He was probably the craziest one out on the dance floor. There were not that many people dancing when we first got in, but we started our little dance circle and people were trying to join us! It was hilarious and so much fun. We didn’t care that we looked like fools, we were just having a good time and danced for 2 hours straight. It was easily the best night of the trip.

Last part will be all of the fun stuff we did like excursions! Stay tuned!

Mexico: Part 2

Guess what?!… I finally unpacked from vacation. I know, so bad but I was waiting for this weekend because I stayed at my sister’s and I wanted to use her washing machine. Now all that is left from Mexico is to finish blogging about it! Part 2 up next, the hotel! Again we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya on the Heaven side (18 and up) and I was SO impressed. From the minute we turned down the driveway I was in awe. The extremely long drive from the street (well I remember it as long) up to the hotel made me think like I was in a movie and I was going to a super glamorous hotel or mansion. Once we walked in the lobby I was in even more awe, I wish I would have taken pictures! Everything was just so nice, totally not what I was expecting. Not that I didn’t think it would be nice, I guess I just didn’t really think at all about what it would look like inside.

My younger sister, bfff, and I went to check in to our room and found out we were booked for a room with a king size bed only, for all three of us! We asked if we could change to a double which the girl wasn’t sure if we would get. While we waited for our room we got to eat breakfast at the buffet with this beautiful view of the pool and the beach. Luckily after we ate our room was ready and it was a double! The only thing that sucked was our entire party was in building four, except for us. Since they moved our room the only available one was in building two. It is so cool because instead of room keys you have a wrist band for your stay which scans on your room door! We got to our room and again, it was SO NICE! Two queen beds, a jacuzzi tub in the same room as the beds, comfy robes, and a hammock on the porch! I know that description sounds so basic but it was incredible.

The pools were awesome too. There is basically two sides. One is calm and more quiet, more for relaxing. The other side has the swim up bar and the DJ. Behind the swim up bar they had snacks from 1-5pm which were life savers. Snacks like onion rings and mozzarella sticks, all of that greasy grossness you need when you are drinking at an all inclusive bar (stories on that in a different post!). Past the pools was the lagoon. Rock walls blocked the open ocean from crashing in which created the most relaxing lagoon and swim area. The water was so bright and the sand so soft. It was nice down there because although it was incredibly humid, there was always a cool breeze at the lagoon.

For food there were six restaurants I believe, three on Heaven the adult side and three on Hacienda, the family side (which also had a water slide!). Breakfast was a buffet and was the same everywhere, but dinner was different at every restaurant. There was a steak restaurant, Brazilian, Asian, Italian, and two Mexican restaurants. I got to try four out of the six so I definitely need to try the others when I go back because I WILL be back. You could also get room service at any time of day or night which was crazy! It was so weird getting anything from room service and having it already be included in your stay. Those quesadillas were our heroes a couple of nights.

I 100% want to go back to this same resort not only because it was nice but because it was so much fun!

Stay tuned, part 3 will be about the wedding!
