Well Hello There 90’s

We always see styles recycle and different trends come circling back around. Last year, and still remaining in this year was a lot of 70’s, hippie, flower child, looks of flairs and florals. This year we are seeing some 90’s trends.

Exhibit A: the choker

I maybe only wore a choker once or twice back in the day and when they came back recently I rolled my eyes and thought why? As usual, the more and more you see a trend the more you kind of want to try it. So I found a dainty, scalloped lace black choker on sale at Nordstrom for $5 and thought what the heck. Turns out, I love it! That doesn’t mean I am all gong-ho about all chokers, I am drawn more to the thin styles. I want a choker to be an accent and enhancer to an outfit, not be drastic and draw all the attention. Adding a thin choker to a casual outfit, like I did here with a v-neck, adds just enough to make it look stylish and not just thrown on. I wasn’t intending to wear a blazer with this outfit, I only brought it because I needed a jacket and I ended up liking the whole combo. I think I have mentioned before how I like throwing a blazer over a casual outfit like a tee but I especially like this one because it is a boyfriend blazer and fits looser.

Exhibit B: thick soled sneaks

Now another trend I have noticed is thick soled sneakers. Again I was against this, until I saw the right ones for me, and now I have two pairs. I got them from Target (of course), they are from the dv line. The first pair I bought are a peach color which you will see here soon enough, and the second pair that I am wearing below my old roomie got for me for my birthday. They are so cute, I already have summer outfits planned which require cut off shorts and a tan (perfect for my vacation in June!). What’s even better is they are only $29.99 and run true to size. Want to know a secret? Shoes are 25% off on the Target Cartwheel app until Monday! I tried linking these for you here but I cannot find them online, BUT I was at Target today and I saw them there still.

Check it out and happy weekend!

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 7

Today is the day, Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you all are being festive and are wearing pink or red! I think that is one of the main reasons I like Valentine’s Day, pink is my favorite color and so much cute stuff comes out at this time, and hearts!

Just as I promised I got a picture in my tutu skirt outfit from my day 2 post (find it here). I am so in love with this outfit and even more so when it is on. I feel like a princess with somewhere important to go. It is just so classy and girly I can’t get enough, and again I am still all about pairing my pink velvet heels with it. What a combo!

I hope you all enjoy today and eat some chocolate, I know I am! <3<3

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 6

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow! Are you ready? My boyfriend and I aren’t doing anything special but I wanted to do something cute for him. It’s nothing big but consists of chocolate and who wouldn’t want that?

I made this Reese’s heart “bouquet” with obviously the chocolate, Dove milk chocolates to fill the “vase”, and everything else was from the value spot at Target! I love the glass container. I knew he wouldn’t really care about the container afterwards so it doesn’t hurt that I like it and already know how to repurpose it. The felt hearts and the Reese’s are taped to heart shaped drink stir sticks. I originally was looking for skewers but when I found these I figured the candies would mount better to the heart than a thin stick. I put the whole thing together in maybe 5 minutes. These cards are from the value spot too for $1 and come in a pack. If you need a good gift idea something like this is perfect and works for just about everyone from a boyfriend, to a friend, to your boss.

Happy almost Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 5

In my day 3 post I mentioned how I had one more lip color to talk about (catch up here) and here it is! Along with the ‘True Love’ color I bought, I also got this one called ‘Beet it’. You can probably guess the shade by the name right? Yep it is a beet/berry color and is soooo pretty! It is bold like the bright pink/red of ‘True Love’ but in a different way. I think this dark lip is a little more sexy and great for going out at night, it just pops so much, especially if you do not wear dark lipstick that often. This darker shade would be super cute with blush pink for a Valentine’s Day date. Again this is from Lime Crime and is another matte liquid lipstick, or what they call their Velvetines.

Can you also witness how cute this Valentine’s Day mug is? I got it from Target (of course) and I made myself throw an old mug away to get this one because my cupboard is so full. It would make a super cute little V-day gift to fill with candy or whatever other little things and tie a ribbon around the handle. Tomorrow I am posting the the little candy gift I am making for my boyfriend so be sure to come back! If you missed any of the previous days find them here: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and Day 4.

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 4

A trend that has been really popular for quite awhile now is midi skirts. You can find so many different styles from solids, prints, velvet, chiffon, lace, tulle, pleats, and so many more. I am totally with this style right now. Not only are midi skirts cute, but they are great for work because they are always long enough! It is so annoying when you wear a short skirt sometimes. If it is a loose skirt you have to worry about the wind, if it is tight you have to worry about it riding up and you are constantly pulling it down. Neither of these happen with a midi (well they could but not as often). I currently have three, and I realized that all three would be great for Valentine’s Day. The tulle skirt I obviously posted already and am so in love with it (if you missed it you can find it here), the burgundy pleated skirt is a great way to utilize a different shade of the Valentine colors, and the gold can be paired with a pink or red top.

Now all of these skirts I bought quite awhile ago but I linked some similar ones for you below!

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 3

Today I am talking lips! My older sister (Beauty by Nicole Breanne) is a make-up artist and got me hooked on Lime Crime matte liquid lipsticks (I have posted about them before). They are so awesome, have beautiful colors, and honestly stay on ALL DAY. There is a color I have been wanting for a long time and it went on sale! It is beyond perfect for Valentine’s Day and get this, it’s called ‘True Love’. It is a bright pink-red. I think red lipstick is so beautiful and sexy but I find it difficult to wear myself, I am usually drawn more to pinks. This color is perfect because it is not quite red, but has enough red in it to make me feel good.

What better way to spice up an outfit than with bright lips? There is something about it that gives me confidence, does anyone else get that? I think fierce lips radiate an energy and gives you a certain attitude like you know you look good. Guess what else? It is still on sale for $10!! I have one more Lime Crime matte velvetine to post for Valentine’s so be sure to come back!

Valentine’s Countdown: Day Two-tu

Hello! Today is day two in my Valentine’s Day countdown or shall I say, day Tutu because what is more perfect for Valentine’s Day than a blush tutu skirt?! If you missed day one you can catch up –> here <–. As I said in my last post, for Valentine’s Day this year I am going shopping in my own closet rather than going actually shopping. To my surprise (although I really shouldn’t be that surprised) I found PLENTY of things in my closet that I can wear this V-day, like this blush tutu skirt! I got this from Windsor almost two years ago and I have only worn it once so clearly I need to wear it again. This is definitely going to be my choice outfit next Tuesday because not only is it adorable, but I feel like Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City in it.

The top is a tank I got from G-Stage for like $15 to wear to my little sister’s grad. party last May and I haven’t worn it since. I am kind of bad at that, I buy an outfit for an occasion and then I do not end up wearing it again for a long time. Lately I have only been buying things when I can think of at least two places/events I can wear it to. Anyways back to it, the heels! At first I was hesitant wearing blush with blush, not to mention slightly different shades, but once I laid the heels on the skirt I was convinced. I wouldn’t necessarily pair these blush heels with this skirt on any regular day but for Valentine’s it is perfect. It gives just the right amount of girly-ness (is that even a word?) and the gold heel is of course perfect. To top off this look I am actually thinking of a berry lip, is that weird? I think it will give the outfit a little more edge and pop, I guess we will see when I wear it on Tuesday! I will be sure to post a photo.

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 1

Valentine’s Day is a week away so of course I am thinking what am I going to wear?! Although I would love to buy something new, I decided to go to my closet instead of the store. Turns out I have quite a few things I can wear! V-day is on a Tuesday this year so I will need something to be festive at work, yet still office appropriate. From the selection I found in my closet, it turns out I have a thing for pastels which is totally great because I just LOVE blush in all shades. If you are looking to buy a top for Valentine’s Day I highly recommend a pastel shade of pink or purple, so a blush, lavender, or lilac. The reason for this recommendation is that these colors are much easier to wear again and mix and match than a hard pink/fuchsia, red, or purple. Those will stand out more and if you’re like me you avoid outfit repeating so these colors will end up in your closet not worn quite often.

These four tops may all be simple in terms of color, they are all solids however, they each have their own unique details. The far left has the pockets and buttons, the second has flutter sleeves, the third has ruffle sleeves, and the fourth on the far right has cold shoulder cutouts (not to mention- its sparkly!). All four can be worn to the office with various slacks, skirts, and/or blazers. All four can also be worn out afterwards. Trade out the slacks for jeans (dark blue denim or black) and add heels or boots/booties and you are set for a low key Valentine’s date. Of course you can dress them up more tucked into a skirt with heels for a nicer dinner. Whichever way, there are so many options!

27 Years

Well Brittany, welcome to 27. How strange is it that I am in my late 20’s? It doesn’t feel right to me for some reason. This past Saturday my boyfriend, one sister, friends, and I went to Lazy Dog for my birthday and on the way there all of these thoughts were going through my head like what am I doing with my life? I feel like I am at a time in my life where it is hard to not compare myself to my friends. We are all mostly the same age yet half are married, some have already bought a house, and even having babies now. As for me, I share a one bedroom apartment with my boyfriend and we are no where near getting engaged, but rather trying to stay afloat so we can make a life for ourselves… eventually. I feel like that is my go to word, “well it will happen, eventually”. It is easy to fall into the down feeling of things not going the way you thought they were. I think that is the problem, we, or at least I, had and still have all of these expectations of how my life would go and it is just not happening.

What made me feel better about this was finally opening up to a couple of my girls and realizing that they felt the same but in their own ways. Talking about it helped and the fact that we now constantly remind each other that it just isn’t our time. My bfffff posted a good blog the other night called Timeline, and she used this quote (I am not sure where she got it from):

Remember that the timeline of your love life will always be the right timeline for you. Who cares if your one friend got married at 24 or your other friend got engaged at 29 or your sister had her first baby at 31. Remember that whichever way your life works out is the exact way it is supposed to work out.

I keep reminding myself that I am unique and I do not want to be like everyone else. The time for my life to fall together in the way I want it to is coming. I have to trust in God’s timing, be patient, and be happy for what I have because truly I am very fortunate. I have a loving family, the most perfect sisters in the world, a boyfriend that I love and I know I want to spend my life with, and the most amazing best friends. I truly do have it all when I think about it. So here is to turning 27. I want this to be the year I MAKE things happen, not just WAIT for them to happen.

Hanging Out in La La Land

I feel the need to express my shameless obsession and love for La La Land. I saw it a few weeks ago and have literally been living in my own “La La Land” ever since. After seeing the beautiful masterpiece I immediately purchased the soundtrack and have kid you not, listened to it at least one time through EVERY-DAY-SINCE. It just makes me happy. I even have to be careful when I am listening to it with my earphones at my desk at work because I catch myself trying to sing and dance, which may be frowned upon by my cubicle neighbors for my not so charming tone. But you know what? In my La La Land I have a fantastic voice so oh well!

This movie is just one of those that makes you feel like you too can achieve your dreams, and be fabulous doing it, and be so artsy that you had no idea your inner self was a cute hipster. It even made me want to go down to LA for fun and I HATE LA. Well I hate the traffic but who cares?! In La La Land people embrace traffic and use freeway overpasses as their stage! Totally realistic to walk away from your car on a stopped freeway overpass and dance with a stranger on top of another stranger’s car, like you totally won’t get beat up for that. The world is your oyster though right?! But like, am I right, because that truly is a strange saying, what does an oyster have to do with anything?

Well that is neither here nor there, the point is I saw La La Land and I now want to make my dreams come true. Positive vibes only! Who is with me?! Come and live in La La Land with me. We will accept happy people only, cranks can go live in an oyster or something because NOTHING is going to bring me down!

“It’s another day of sun!”
