Loose Peplum

I remember when I first got into peplum tops. It was probably about three years ago when I still worked in retail, I bought two different tops. Most of the peplum tops that came out were similar, usually fitted and on the shorter side, they came right to the top of your pants. Those aren’t my style anymore and I haven’t seen much of them around either. There is a new style I am getting behind though, loose and long peplum tops. My bfffff got me this light blush top for my birthday from Target. The peplum detail of this top is so subtle I almost didn’t realize it was that style at all. I love the fact that it is loose and flows, and is also long and covers up the top of your pants.

For work I wore this top with a pair of black slacks and heels, keeping it simple, but to add a little more I topped it with one of my favorite blazers. It is heather gray, oversized (boyfriend blazer), and stands out. It all went well together and was comfy. This top is also great with jeans and can be worn casually, the buttons and the pockets on the front help make it not too dressy. Lastly I LOVE the color. I am having a serious obsession with blush right now. Pink is one of my favorite colors but for some reason I never really had a lot of pink clothes, but lately I have noticed a growing section of blush in my closet. The majority of my recent additions have been blush so stay tuned for a few more!

Well Hello There 90’s

We always see styles recycle and different trends come circling back around. Last year, and still remaining in this year was a lot of 70’s, hippie, flower child, looks of flairs and florals. This year we are seeing some 90’s trends.

Exhibit A: the choker

I maybe only wore a choker once or twice back in the day and when they came back recently I rolled my eyes and thought why? As usual, the more and more you see a trend the more you kind of want to try it. So I found a dainty, scalloped lace black choker on sale at Nordstrom for $5 and thought what the heck. Turns out, I love it! That doesn’t mean I am all gong-ho about all chokers, I am drawn more to the thin styles. I want a choker to be an accent and enhancer to an outfit, not be drastic and draw all the attention. Adding a thin choker to a casual outfit, like I did here with a v-neck, adds just enough to make it look stylish and not just thrown on. I wasn’t intending to wear a blazer with this outfit, I only brought it because I needed a jacket and I ended up liking the whole combo. I think I have mentioned before how I like throwing a blazer over a casual outfit like a tee but I especially like this one because it is a boyfriend blazer and fits looser.

Exhibit B: thick soled sneaks

Now another trend I have noticed is thick soled sneakers. Again I was against this, until I saw the right ones for me, and now I have two pairs. I got them from Target (of course), they are from the dv line. The first pair I bought are a peach color which you will see here soon enough, and the second pair that I am wearing below my old roomie got for me for my birthday. They are so cute, I already have summer outfits planned which require cut off shorts and a tan (perfect for my vacation in June!). What’s even better is they are only $29.99 and run true to size. Want to know a secret? Shoes are 25% off on the Target Cartwheel app until Monday! I tried linking these for you here but I cannot find them online, BUT I was at Target today and I saw them there still.

Check it out and happy weekend!

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 6

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow! Are you ready? My boyfriend and I aren’t doing anything special but I wanted to do something cute for him. It’s nothing big but consists of chocolate and who wouldn’t want that?

I made this Reese’s heart “bouquet” with obviously the chocolate, Dove milk chocolates to fill the “vase”, and everything else was from the value spot at Target! I love the glass container. I knew he wouldn’t really care about the container afterwards so it doesn’t hurt that I like it and already know how to repurpose it. The felt hearts and the Reese’s are taped to heart shaped drink stir sticks. I originally was looking for skewers but when I found these I figured the candies would mount better to the heart than a thin stick. I put the whole thing together in maybe 5 minutes. These cards are from the value spot too for $1 and come in a pack. If you need a good gift idea something like this is perfect and works for just about everyone from a boyfriend, to a friend, to your boss.

Happy almost Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Countdown: Day 5

In my day 3 post I mentioned how I had one more lip color to talk about (catch up here) and here it is! Along with the ‘True Love’ color I bought, I also got this one called ‘Beet it’. You can probably guess the shade by the name right? Yep it is a beet/berry color and is soooo pretty! It is bold like the bright pink/red of ‘True Love’ but in a different way. I think this dark lip is a little more sexy and great for going out at night, it just pops so much, especially if you do not wear dark lipstick that often. This darker shade would be super cute with blush pink for a Valentine’s Day date. Again this is from Lime Crime and is another matte liquid lipstick, or what they call their Velvetines.

Can you also witness how cute this Valentine’s Day mug is? I got it from Target (of course) and I made myself throw an old mug away to get this one because my cupboard is so full. It would make a super cute little V-day gift to fill with candy or whatever other little things and tie a ribbon around the handle. Tomorrow I am posting the the little candy gift I am making for my boyfriend so be sure to come back! If you missed any of the previous days find them here: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and Day 4.

Pink Chambray

Occasionally, as in more than I should, I stroll through the clothes section of Target. The other day I passed through and didn’t really see anything that I liked. It is hard when the seasons are changing and stores are redoing their entire floor set. I decided I was being good not finding anything and started to walk away… until I came across this dress! Pink chambray, how perfect is it? I grabbed one off the rack and didn’t even try it on, just went to the check out.

This dress is the perfect shade of pink and goes perfectly with all tans and browns. This time I paired my chestnut booties from Steve Madden (clearly my new favs since they are in most of my recent posts) but next I can even try my tan heels to make it more business casual for work. You can even add a sweater or a denim jacket to add more. I can’t wait to wear this again! I’m thinking this weekend with the sun coming out! (I am having trouble finding it online to link it but I will try looking again tonight!)

essie Gel Couture Update

In one of my posts from last week, Goal: Be Cozy, I showed you my new nail polish I got from Target- essie Gel Couture in the color ‘Touch Up’, and said I would investigate how well they work and report back. Well it has been two full days and so far I have no chips! I know two days doesn’t seem like that long, but compared to normal polish, it is pretty good. I was getting spoiled with getting my nails done with gel every couple weeks because I hate how normal polish can chip within the same day of painting them. That is so frustrating! I am trying to be good though and save money which means doing my nails myself. To be honest, I forgot how much I love painting my nails, it is therapeutic. I’m curious just how long I can go without a chip and I can’t wait to get a few more colors!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Goal: Be Cozy

I went into Target today with no specific goal, per usual, and of course found something. As soon as I walked into the clothes section I spotted a sweater that I wanted. I love when you are thinking about a certain item you want and then you accidentally come across the perfect version (because do we ever find anything when we are actively looking for it? No.) I checked the Target Cartwheel app. and it had a coupon for 40% off women’s sweaters! Obviously meant to buy it so into the basket it went. For anyone who doesn’t use the Target Cartwheel app. please check it out. I have been using it for about 3 years now and I have saved $435.76 total!

Anyways my new sweater is the perfect shade of light pink, super soft, oversized, and cable knit. If there is anything better than a sweater, it is an oversized sweater. I also bought the essie gel couture polish in Touch Up and the top coat. I haven’t tried it yet but I am pretty excited to, hopefully tomorrow I will have more time to do it. I have been trying to be better and save money and NOT get my nails done at a salon so we will see how long this gel polish lasts without chipping. I will test it out and report back!

Lastly, I am so excited. I saw Gigi Hadid post a picture of the cover of the Vogue It Girl Style on her insta. not too long ago (because I am obsessed with her), and I had to have it! I was sad when I realized that it was an October edition and not in any stores anymore. I looked on Amazon because that was how determined I was to have it, and I found it! So worth it because it is BEAUTIFUL. I decided that my favorite Vogue covers are going to be my new collection. I have this one to add to my other favorite, the Taylor Swift cover (yeah whatever I am kind of nerdy but its cool!). Check out all of my little finds below and have a great night!

Shine Bright Like a Bright Thing!

You know that song by Rhianna “Diamonds” and it says, “Shine bright like a diamond.”? Well one night when my two sisters and I were together the younger one Tabitha (from the blog Tab in Transit) was saying “shine bright like a bright thing!” It kind of became an inside joke for the three of us. Anyways I wore a shiny skirt and Tabitha commented that on my picture and that is why the title of this post is “Shine Bright Like a Bright Thing.” Good now that we got that out of the way I can tell you a bit of bad news… I bought this beautiful skirt at Target from the Who What Wear line and they do not have it online for me to share with you! Awwww I am sorry.

I saw this skirt and knew that I wanted it to wear to work. It is a midi skirt with tiny pleats and is a silvery-gold color. I felt a mixture of classy, elegant, and vintage in it. I paired it with a nice black, loose tank and plain black pumps. Simple and elegant, and everyone loved it!

These Boots!

I have a new favorite pair of boots for the season, the dv for Target Marilyn Over the Knee Fashion Boots in Saddle Brown. I had been waiting to wear them because it hasn’t been cold until recently and I LOVE them! They just make any outfit look so much better no matter how casual it is, like this one. This is a loose, black long sleeve dress, you can’t get any simpler than that. I threw on the boots and a scarf and boom, check me out, I look/feel like I put so much effort into my outfit and I really didn’t. What is also great about these boots is that they are still comfortable with jeans and they run true to size (in my experience). They are casual yet the thick heel on them make them able to be somewhat dressy as well, which makes them great for the office, they look better than flat boots. Love. Love. LOVE.

Girly Dress

I love wearing dresses. Not only are they cute but they are just so easy. I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before but it’s a whole outfit in one piece of clothing. Anything you add to it just enhances it. I found this purple floral dress at Target and I was so surprised. The style and print are so cute, their Xhilaration brand has really been stepping up their style and have come out with a lot of cute new dresses. I love how girly this one makes me feel.

Although this dress does perfectly well on its own, for work purposes I added a striped white and navy blazer. The pattern doesn’t match but I have been so into that lately, ESPECIALLY stripes and floral prints. It just works. I also loved the whole color scheme: navy, purple, and white. As for shoes, instead of pairing my perfectly matching navy pumps, I tried nude heels and it worked! I took a chance with these ones as the heel is a nude snakeskin but the color is subtle enough to blend. When I wore this outfit out I ended up wearing a chunky nude sandal heel by Steve Madden.

This dress can quickly be changed from work to a more casual/going out outfit. I ditched the blazer and heels and added a blue statement necklace and over the knee taupe boots. So. Perfect. This definitely might be a holiday party combo.
