9th Wheeling It

Hi! I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend! I did and I am sad that it is over and we are back to work. I know summer isn’t over yet but doesn’t Labor Day kind of feel like the last weekend? The next holiday I have off is Thanksgiving… Anyways, Sunday morning I went out to Palm Springs to hang with Heather and her boyfriend and their friends. We got a daybed at the Saguaro pool and it was SUCH a good time!

Our group was fun, I was totally the 9th wheel but never felt left out once. The girls mostly hung out together while the guys hung together. I feel like I need to express how great this friend group is because it just amazes me. The group of friends is THE GUYS! Heather’s boyfriend went to high school with the other three (plus two more that couldn’t make it) and all of their girlfriend’s/wives are now friends. I met them in January for Heather’s birthday and since then they have welcomed me with open arms into their group. They are such amazing people, so fun and genuine and constantly make you laugh. I love seeing friend groups like this but it is even more impressive that it is a guy friend group. I don’t know why that seems so rare to me, is that rare? I feel like guys don’t try to get together as much, or at least that is what I have seen. But these guys enjoy hanging together and having fun and including the girls (and me!) and I love it! It really makes me want to find a guy that enjoys his friends and not only wants to hang out with them, but wants me to hang out with him with them. That didn’t happen in my last relationship and spending time with this awesome group really shows me that is something that I want. I would 9th wheel them anytime!

The Saguaro was super fun though and I am happy we reserved a daybed. Last time I went in June we couldn’t even find a chair to put our bag on, we just had to put it on the ground (or more in the planter) and hope nobody took it or stepped on it. All of us girls got the fun drink cups (Heather got the watermelon and the rest of us got grapefruits) and filled them with the yummiest watermelon margaritas. We hung out at the pool for almost 6 hours (GREAT people watching) then finally paid the tab and left to get In-N-Out for dinner and then hang at home. At home we played Jenga and stayed up and talked a bit but were all asleep by 11pm. Why do we not party and day drink more often? It is great! You get to have fun but still go to bed early. Who needs to party at night when you can be done and sleep instead? We said this last night and were all that is how we know we are getting old.

Monday we just walked around downtown Palm Springs and got lunch and then desert, our favorite pineapple Dole Whip soft serve. While we ate the ice cream, one of the guys busted out Bean-Boozle, the jelly beans that either taste like something normal or something out of a garbage can. Why do they even make these vile things?! My first one I got SO lucky. I got a white which would either be coconut or spoiled milk, I got coconut PRAISE JESUS. The next three who picked a white got spoiled milk. By the second round the rule was if you spit it out you had to eat another. That round I got moldy cheese and was gagging. I chewed three times and couldn’t get it to go down so I took a drink and swallowed it like a pill. Everyone almost threw up once in this game yet we still played multiple rounds, remember how I said up there we were getting old? Maybe I need to rethink that.  Funny that a group of kids were sitting across from us watching our group of 9 almost 30 year olds gag and moan from forcing each other to play Bean-Boozle… who were the more mature ones now?

All in all it was a great weekend. It felt like a little mini vacation, we didn’t worry about anything but having a good time. I was also excited to wear my new bathing suit I got on sale when I went to the Topshop store at the Grove, I had been wanting a rainbow-ish print suit! I paired my GRL Collective Palm Springs line earrings with it and it was perfect!

Shop the look: Suit (the suit was on sale and they don’t have this one anymore but I linked a two piece in the same print BUT they don’t have a lot of sizes… the link will take you to Topshop anyways, look at their other suits! Labor Day Weekend!

It’s the last day of August, can you believe it?! This year is flying by. Tomorrow is the first of September which means (hopefully) fall is right around the corner! Pumpkin spice lattes came back this week… I don’t know about you but I think that is way too early. PSL’s make me think of the cold, I would not want to drink one in this SoCal heat!

What are you plans for Labor Day weekend? I am going to Palm Springs to see my bestie, duh! It has been 4 whole weeks since I have been out there so I am due. I know I mentioned SoCal heat up there, but have you ever felt Palm Springs heat? That is a whole other animal which requires planning on the outfit side of things. It can be so hard to dress cute out there when you just want to rip all your clothes off and die of heat stroke. For these fun holiday weekends I always try to go for a “casual” look. For all of you who follow me you know why my casual is in quotes. I love the undercover dressy looks, you know the ones that are technically casual but have all the details to be kind of dressy.

This weekend, whatever day, I am going to wear my white high waist shorts (got to get that white in before labor day 😉 ) and this new-ish chambray crop. Now that sounds pretty casual right, denim shorts and a chambray crop? The details on said chambray top make all the difference. It is a wrap crop that ties on the side with ruffles on the shoulders and down the front. Now doesn’t that sound a little less casual? This way when someone says, “you’re always so dressed up!” you can say, “It is just denim.” I secretly love when people always think I am dressed up. Goal every where I go, I would rather be over dressed than under dressed.

Shop the look: Top | Shorts | Wedges

img_7997

I will probably bring my sprinkle tank outfit for the other day. That is another good casual one, a super cute top paired with high waist denim shorts. Plus the cami will be good for the heat. Both of these outfits work great with either sandals or wedges, I will probably bring both and decide based on what we do.

Do you have any fun plans or cute outfits planned?? Feel free to share and have a fun AND SAFE three day weekend!

BTS peek: most blogs I have to go back through and edit out a million exclamation points! See?! Hahah I just vomit exclamation points all the time, like chill Brittany, not everyone is as excited about crop tops as you are…… (holding off on putting an ! at the end of that LOL)

Bladies!!

If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen I have been rollerblading. Yes rollerblading! I am not even sure exactly how it came up but earlier this month Kristen, my fellow blader and I, went to our other friend’s, Theresa, son’s first birthday party. On our drive home we talked about rollerblading and before we knew it, the next day we were at Big 5 Sporting Goods buying blades! We had to go to two different Big 5s to find them and were so excited we immediately took them for a spin. There is a bike trail that goes through our city and through a couple neighboring ones. We parked at one of the entrances and took off! We were a little wobbly and flail-y but we did it and now that is all we want to do every day. I couldn’t believe how fun it was and is, I don’t remember it being so relaxing. The first night we went 3 miles and didn’t even realize it! I love that it is a workout but it doesn’t feel like one. Well sometimes, the father we go the more hills we find and realize our buns are burning on the way back up. Our last go we went 8.3 miles! Each time we try to go at least a little further. It is usually around 6-6:30 by the time we go. At that time it is getting cooler and the sun is setting. I have already said it but is really is so relaxing. Just getting outside in the fresh air, you cannot help but smile after being cooped up all day.

The coolest thing about it though, besides the workout and therapeutic qualities, is what it is starting. Kristen and I took a bunch of short videos on our Insta stories and I ended up making a video for IGTV (watch it here), and we both got a couple messages from other girls who want to join us! The next time we went we already had a new bladie! Holly had dug up her blades and came out with us. Now my older sister bought some (we just broke her’s in last night, she is a little shaky but will get back in the groove!), and two other girls want to buy some and join too! I feel like we really might be starting something here! We keep calling ourselves the bladies or babes on blades. I am going to be so excited if more babes start joining us. You just wait, soon there we be neighborhood complaints about the lady blade gang, it is going to be awesome!

I linked our blades below, it is crazy that Kris and I have already put 35.7 miles on these guys! They are much more comfortable than I remember as a kid, maybe because these ones, tie and buckle, not just buckle all the way up. I also linked my palm print workout outfit, they are new and I love them! If you are local to Rancho Cucamonga come join us! If not, seriously get some blades and start up where you are, you will love it!

Wood Watch from Jord!

I have been fortunate enough to try a new style watch from Jord. These are the wood watches I posted last year and they are amazing! I love this one even more that my last. This time I got the Cassia series in walnut and vintage rose and it is so pretty. The color combination makes for such a classy look, I have already gotten so many compliments on it. The rose gold face draws attention and I really like the thinner band, it is not what I usually go for but I am completely obsessed. The double row of rose gold through the wood band completes it perfectly. These watches are really conversation starters. Once you tell someone it is made out of wood they want to see it closer and admire it.

I highly recommend checking them out, they have such great women’s and men’s styles, plus Jord has customizable options which makes these great gifts as well. You can get the back of your watch engraved OR get the wood box it comes in engraved with a message. It is such a great idea! I love that you can personalize it. You can also send in your measurements to have your watch delivered already sized. That makes it so easy to just receive it in the mail and wear it right away.

I have the chance for you guys to enter a giveaway for a chance to win a $100 gift code to Jord! Click here to enter: https://www.jordwatches.com/g/theblaw and good luck! Check out the photos below and head over to Jord to see what else they have, you will love them all!

Fall Preview!

I feel like I am pretty much ready for fall colors. I love the transitional pieces that you can still (most) wear in summer but will be perfect for fall LIKE THESE BOOTIES!

img_7623

I got them from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and it wasn’t an easy task. They didn’t have them in my stores and my size sold out online. I had them on my wishlist and I literally stalked them multiple times a day checking the sizes. Finally I saw a 7.5 was back and I ordered it so fast! When I got the shipping confirmation I knew it was for real. You know how sometimes when there are limited sizes you can order something and then you get that really depressing email that it was actually sold out and you’re getting a refund? That is what I was worried about. BUT I WON! They are Kristin Cavallari and I love them! They are surprisingly light weight and really comfortable. I know I will be wearing them a lot this fall, they will go with almost everything! Linked down below!

As for this polkadot top, I saw it on an Old Navy email and was in love! It is perfect for work wear and for a causal look. I found these black jeans at Old Navy too. I liked the high waist and the slightly faded black, but I was a little hesitant about the “straight leg” bottom. I wanted to wear this outfit with my booties but didn’t know if that would look funny. I decided to just go for it and I actually liked it. I think the released hem helped.

I feel like something is happening to me… I am liking black! It is not that I do not like black, I am just always more drawn to colors but this fall I think I am really going to invest in some good black pieces, the looks are just so chic!

See the look below and all items linked! PS – my post on Friday will be about my super cute wood watch and my giveaway link will be up again! Stay tuned!

Sprinkle Tank!

Happy Monday! Hopefully everyone had a great weekend. Mine was good and bad. Bad because I had a massive headache both days, but good because I got to celebrate one of my best friend’s son’s first birthdays and yesterday one of my other best friends and I bought rollerblades!! Haha yes rollerblades. We are now “The Bladies” and are going to skate for fun and exercise #babesonblades. I forgot what a workout rollerblading is! My butt and thighs were tired right away. Anyone else still rollerblade? If this link works, this is my new video on IGTV for our first day blading: click here!

Anyways, for the party Saturday I wore this new tank I got and it is so cute! It looks like sprinkles or confetti. Throwing on a tank easy-tucked into high waisted shorts with some earrings, is such an easy outfit yet looks really put together. It is the perfect summer look. It’s casual but is not too dressed down. I didn’t actually wear these wedges to the party, I wore gold sandals, but that shows this look can really be styled either way. Brunch with the girlfriends calls for wedges, baby’s birthday party calls for sandals.

One of my girlfriends is super into camis right now and I think I am finally hopping on that train. I have this one but now I want more! Any suggestions on wear to get some good ones?

New Bikini!

I stalked this bathing suit for literally SO LONG from Target, and like most things I stalk, I PREVAILED! I found it online a couple month’s ago but of course it wasn’t sold in stores AND only the color I wanted was sold out. On the Target app they have a “notify me” button for when items are back in stock. I did that and waited and waited and continued to check… nothing. Last month I looked at a notification on my phone, it was from Target AND MY BEAUTIFUL BATHING SUIT WAS BACK IN STOCK! Sorry, I don’t mean to shout, I just need you to understand how excited I was. AND GUESS WHAT ELSE? The next day when I went to buy it, bathing suits were BOGO half off! It was like the stars aligned and everything was meant to be. I ordered it!

img_6558

It came in and was just as beautiful in person as it was online. I bought a small in both the top and the bottoms. The bottoms fit great and felt super comfy, not overly tight, the top although it fit, I could probably go smaller #smallboobproblems. I ended up ordering an extra small and returned the small. Triangle tops are not the best for small chests, they tend to make you look smaller. I usually go for bandeaus. I was all set now though. I love how this suit looks so expensive but in reality I got the whole thing for a little over $30, can’t beat that!

img_6737

I finally wore it last weekend in Palm Springs. I am going to be honest, Heather and I didn’t have that much time to be by the pool so we mainly took photos then left. But we are going back for labor day so I will get to wear it again! We went to the pool at the V and I cant wait to go back in a few weeks to actually enjoy it. It looks so cute, they have all these lounge chairs, and a cool bar. I didn’t think it was appropriate to order a cocktail at 8am soooo look for a photo of one after labor day.

The Windmills

I have been wanting a photo OF the windmills in Palm Springs and WITH the windmills for some time now. I always see them on my drive in and out and wish I could just stop on the side of the road to take a photo! But I have been told I cannot do that. So finally this weekend I told my mom we are doing it! We are finally getting photos! After a failed attempt, we FINALLY found the place. Thursday evening we drove in their general direction and found a park that looked mostly close to them. There was one car just waiting, and another had pulled in right before us and parked, then we parked next to it. Up at the benches there was a man in an electric wheelchair. The lady who parked first got out and kind of just stared at us funny (for an awkward amount of time) and was walking up to the man. We figured they were family and we walked toward the windmills. Turns out we were a lot farther than we thought and didn’t want to pass through the barrier of trees to get to them so we turned around. When we got back to the car, the weird lady in her car was gone and another had pulled in and parked. She also gave us a weird look when she got out of her car and headed for they guy in the wheelchair. We got back in our car and I told my mom I am pretty sure the guy in the wheelchair is doing drug deals… she said probably, we are not in a great part of town. We promptly left. Oops! In the middle of drug deals and here we are with a camera trying to get photos of windmills. We drove around a little longer and found one spot kind of far away from them but gave it a try.

Friday morning after our palm tree oasis adventure we tried for windmills again. We found a mostly good spot and just parked on the side of the road, but the lovely barbed wire fence was not so cute in my photos. We decided to get breakfast instead, then after drove home and the road we took was right by the windmills with no fence! By the time we decided we should stop we had already passed them all, had to u-turn, go all the way back to the end, turn around and start again. We ended up finding a turn off and went in. My mom is the best and is down to do anything for the blog with me! We finally found the PERFECT spot for photos OF and WITH the windmills with no fences and you’re pretty level with them. When we finished and drove the rest of that road back, we ended up right at the park from the day before… if we would have just gone a little further! Still, mission accomplished and now we know where to go.

This outfit was linked in our palm tree oasis adventure post, but I will link it again (ps- this crop is on sale now!)

Palm Tree Oasis!

My mom has been wanting to take me to the palm tree oasis in Thousand Palms for like ever. Last time we tried it was way too windy. She wanted to try this time but we had to go super early because of how hot it was… like this past Friday was ONLY supposed to be 113°. We wanted to get there by 7am but ended up running an hour late. Good thing because we found out they don’t open until 8am. When we got there, the Coachella Valley Preserve, it looked closed. When we walked up we were told the visitor center is closed during this part of the season, but the trails were open.

It was such a cool place! So many huge palm trees all together with trails and bridges in between. The not cool part, all of the bugs! I felt like you couldn’t stop moving for too long because the bugs would attack you. Them or the lizards everywhere. We went through a few trails, passed a sign that said watch out for wildlife and listed dragon flies, lizards, and whatever. We went a little farther and the next wildlife sign showed things like bobcats, mountain lions, snakes OH-MY! We turned around and said we had gone far enough. We did one more trail and called it a day. It probably took longer to drive there than it did to walk through what we did! But it was really cool to see. It would definitely be cool to go back when it is cooler so you can stay longer. There are even picnic tables to bring a lunch.

At least we got a few good photos. I love this casual outfit I put together. To be honest I bought this cropped tee to wear to the OC Fair when we go this Friday, but I felt it was very Palm Springs so I wore it already, oops! I have been loving the longer, loose crop tops, the ones that just barely graze the top of your high waist bottoms. All items are linked below, the top and shorts are Topshop from Nordstrom, the hat is from Target, and the Adidas are from Nordstrom as well (got them as part of the sale and they are like my favorite thing!).

Old Navy Dress Roundup

I have been obsessed with Old Navy’s summer dresses this year. They have been so perfect and their prints have been on point. You probably know how much I like the resort wear look so all of these palm and tropical flower prints have been my jam. I ended up with three this summer (yes I know not that many but I had to limit myself!) and I want to wear them all the time. Luckily I got them all on sale too!

First one I got was this black floral print dress with a tie neck. It’s perfect with either sandals or wedges and is nice and cool for when it’s hot. It comes in a couple other colors as well but a lot of sizes are almost sold out! Linked here!

Second was this basic swing dress that is SO comfortable! There aren’t too many colors left but I want to buy another. It is so cute with some fun earrings and wedges, or even sandals or tennies! Linked here!

Lastly is this fun little salsa dress. The off the shoulder detail and the bottom ruffle are just SO FUN! I need an actual event to wear this too, I just love it so much. I feel like I’m instantly on vacation when I put it on! A couple sizes are gone in this color, but black is fully stocked. Linked here!

I can’t believe it’s August! Let’s enjoy the end of summer and welcome FALL SOON!
