Watch Out, My Flats Are Pointy

I have always loved flats. I wear them a lot because although I love heels and have a bunch that I never wear, I am already tall as it is and I hate being even taller around all of my friends who are shorter than me. I know I shouldn’t care, but I prefer to wear heels when the other girls are going to wear them too. Anyways, like I said I love flats, but I never thought I would love pointed flats. I remember when they first started coming out and I was iffy about them. Yes they were cute but I didn’t know if I could pull them off. Now they are my favorite and I choose a pointed flat before I would choose a rounded one.

I have been good and staying away from Target lately. You do not understand, I have been like REALLY good, AND when my roomie and I went the other day to get milk and nail polish, I went straight in that direction and avoided the clothes and shoes. My roomie even noticed and said good job. Thank you, thank you. Well it just so happens that Target is having a “Buy one, get one half off” sale on ALL SHOES. I have even stayed away for two days since I have known. Today though, I decided to go, but I went with the intention of buying new flats. All of the flats that I have I need to toss since they are old and starting to look and feel old. I have also had my eye on a pair of pointed, snake skin flats for awhile. Somehow there was a pair left in my size.

Since the sale was BOGO half off of course I had to get a second pair. I was so tempted to get the heels I have been wanting and have already bought once… but I returned them out of buyers remorse. They even had one last pair in my size! So guess what I did? I did not get them! Please be proud and hold your applause. I decided to be practical. Since I needed new flats and I can wear them for work, I decided to get a second pair of pointed flats. These ones black and camel tan. I am actually quite happy with my purchase and cannot wait to wear my new flats and see how I can style them up! I am also happy for the fact that my excuse to buy them was for work, which is totally justifiable.

Raising Boyfriends

I was talking to one of the ladies I work with this week about hanging out with our girlfriends and what we were going to be doing over the weekend. She said that it is hard for her to get with her group of girlfriends often because they are all married and have their own things going on. She is about twenty years older than me so I know that we are in total different times of our lives, but this got me thinking about my group of girls. We all have such a good relationship right now. Whenever we get together we have so much fun and we are in a group message together all day, every day. Out of the five of us there are two boyfriends and two husbands (my Roomie is still on her man hunt). What is so perfect about our group is that all of our guys get along. Usually when we all get together, us girls and the guys, the guys go off on their own and us girls do our thing.

This whole thought about our guys getting along was making me think about dogs and cats. They do not get along, but when you raise a kitten and a puppy together, they do not know they are supposed to hate each other because they grew up together. I feel like since we introduced our guys to each other at the young points of our relationships, that they are kittens and puppies right now. Before this past August we were all boyfriend and girlfriend, or I guess you could say finances as well, but no one was married. I consider the marriage part of relationships to be the adult part. So since we all knew each other and were hanging out in our kitten and puppy stages, I think that our group will just continue to grow together as all of our relationships grow and get older.

Right now two out of the five of us are married, another two are in serious relationships, and the last is still searching, but she hasn’t lost hope. She told us how happy she is that she has four great examples of what a healthy relationship is, and now knows what she wants in a man. One important quality is that he gets along with the rest of the guys. Looking at our group, I do not think we will have an issue once all of us are married. I think that since we have “raised” our boys together since they were “kittens and puppies” that we will be just fine. There is not going to be any of that her husband doesn’t like so and so’s husband so we cannot invite them. We all just get along and it is easy.

So one day, twenty years from now, when I am in the time of my life that my co worker is now, I hope that our group is still the same, and that we get together as often as we do. I hope that the guys will actually refer to each other as friends and not think of each other as their wife’s friend’s husband. I hope that all of our future kids will be close like us and get along like they are actually cousins. Time will only tell, but thinking about the time of our lives that we are in right now excites me. Big things are starting to happen to us all. Two of us are married, two of us in the next few years will be next, my roomie will be following close behind, and once we have all experienced all of each others weddings together, we will start sharing a new time of our lives consisting of babies and a whole lot of firsts. Not only will we be sharing clothes with each other, we will be handing down baby clothes and advice. Our puppies and kittens will have grown up into men, fathers, and friends who have backyard barbecues, watching the kids run around, while us girls sit together talking about everything and everyone, as usual. That sounds like a pretty perfect future.

Hello Spring

Good morning and hello Spring! Yes today is the first day of Spring and I couldn’t be more excited. Well I could if it was Fall. Fall and Spring are my two favorite seasons. Why? For the fashion of course! Fall is when it starts to cool off, but not freezing, and you get to wear sweaters and tights. Spring is when it starts to get warmer, but not too warm, and we get to break out the shorts, tanks, and sun dresses. There are always the typical Spring trends like florals and brighter colors, but there are so many ways to style these. There is so much pattern mixing right now and I am ready to embrace it. I cannot wait to see what I can make out of what I already have in my closet.

In honor of the first day of Spring I had to do bright nails! This is one of my favorite Spring and even Summer colors “tart deco” by essie. This coral color is so fun and stands out, and not to mention makes your hands look tan. Of course I had to top it off with my essie “all in one” top coat. I have a serious nail polish obsession so more Spring colors will be coming and I am so excited!

A Tragic Short- Dad’s Life Lessons #1

In honor of my Dad’s birthday today, I want to share one of his life lessons he shared with my sisters and I this past Sunday. He was talking about my niece to my older sister and about when we all have kids and when they want pets.

This is what he told us: “Girls just always remember, anything that lives, poops.”

Thanks Dad. We will be sure to remember that.

St. Patrick’s Day

With today being St. Patrick’s day, of course I had to wear green. I don’t have any of the typical St. Patrick’s Day green so I stuck with olive green, which I think is much better anyways. To keep with the office vibe I paired my olive green pants, cuffed once at the bottom to make them ankle length, with a black peplum tank, a baggy open sweater that is black with pink flowers and green leaves, and lastly a pair of grey pointy flats. To add a little more flash to this outfit I put on the new peach earring that I got from Hello Fab. These helped to tie the whole outfit together and make it more fun and dressy.

PS- Don’t judge my wannabe photoshoot.

essie “all in one” update

Last week I posted about my new essie nail polishes “turquoise & caicos” and the “all in one” base and clear coat in Hint of Mint. In that post I told you I would give an update about how the “all in one” works. For those of you who didn’t read it, the “all in one” is a base coat, a clear coat, and a nail strengthener, and it works great! My nails are usually super short because I break them all the time, but I have been wanting to grow them just a tiny bit longer and keep them that way. I have only applied this “all in one” twice and I feel like my nails already feel a little stronger. I haven’t broken one yet! Well, I broke one but that was because I cut a corner in the office too tight and hit my hand on the wall, typical. Anyways, not only did the “all in one” work on making my nails stronger, it also is an amazing top coat. My mint nails did not get any chips for four days! I know that does not seem like a long time to some of you, but for not being a gel manicure, four days is pretty awesome. Usually when I paint my nails myself I have at least one chip by the end of the first day. I totally recommend this polish!

Baya is for Balayage

I have never been able to keep a hair color for very long. This may be because my sister is an amazing hair dresser and not only does my hair, but all of my family and literally all of my friends’ hair. I have been a brunette, a blonde, then brunette again, then several different shades of red, to a copper red ombré, and now to the new… a balayage, or what my girls and I call it, a baya. The balayage style is getting pretty popular and I was the first one my sister had tried it on. It was such a success that now all of my friends are getting it. The difference between a balayage and an ombré is more the technique. The way it is done creates a softer look with more blended lines.

What I love about this style is that it is helping me slowly go lighter towards the summer. It is a subtle change and she adds more blonde to it every other time I come in, so about every three months. A toner is applied each time to blend it all, but even when that starts to fade after quite a few washes the color still looks amazing. The fading toner reveals more lightened pieces which helps with the gradual process of going lighter. This way I don’t come out of the salon and it’s like whoa your hair is light!

I have gotten so many compliments on my hair with a balayage. My hair has so much definition now that it looks amazing when it is down and curled. The curls reveal every different shade in my hair. Today was a bleach day and we went a little lighter. Perfect to welcome in Spring next week!

A Tragic Short- Biker Gang

This morning I was on my way to get my hair done and I was running late. Of course when you’re running late you’re also running out of gas. When the bottom line of my gas gauge starts blinking then that’s bad, like I think maybe ten miles left bad. I was driving fast and trying to get to my appointment on time, so burning more gas. I was a few exits away when my line started blinking! If I could just make it to my exit there was a gas station right above it.

Okay there it is I’m going to make it. I get off, make my left turn, and get to the corner by the gas station. By this time I’m guessing I have maybe two miles left. Woo that was close. I turn left, then get in the turn lane for the gas station. I am behind a car who is also waiting, but we can’t turn. Why you ask? Because of the huge line of spandex wearing bicyclists coming down the street! It never ended! Are you kidding me? I’m going to sit here and run out of gas right in front of a gas station because a spandex biker gang won’t get out of my way!

Finally there was a break in the line and I went for it! So close but I did not run out of gas. SAFE!
