All Grown Up

My dearest Tabitha,

How did this day finally come? It was seriously yesterday that I was waking up every day to take you to zero period cheer at 6:30 AM in high school, uh I am such a good sister. Then remember that one time we thought it was a great idea for you to apply to a college six hours away, and then had another idea that you should actually go because you got accepted? Aren’t we hilarious?! Well you went and it was so great for you, yet so awful at the same time because I missed you so much. BUT YOU CAME BACK! I was so excited that you were transferring to my college, even though by the time you got there I was graduating, but the fact was that we were reunited, and it did feel good! I had you back and we were now not just sisters by blood but also sorority sisters. You joining was obviously awesome, but you transferring to my chapter and them taking you in with open arms showed me what a great organization and sisterhood we are apart of.

You have come such a long way from high school, to Sacramento, to La Verne, to now receiving your diploma. The woman you have become never ceases to amaze me. I love your innocent bluntness, your sassy wit, and your bravery to do things on your own and to speak your mind. I am envious of you in the best possible way. I know through school you have followed close in my footsteps and I LOVE the fact that we did basically all of the same things. One of the most honorable things I have done in my life is be a role model for you. At this point in life though things are changing, you have grown into a person that I look up to. You will always be my little sister, but you are not little anymore. You are your own person and although you may not always feel like it, you give off a beautiful confidence. I admire everything about you, your beauty, your ability to make everyone laugh so hard, you intelligence, and your writing. It is one of my goals to be able to write as well as you.

I grow more proud of you everyday. Things seem to not go your way more often for you than for most other people, and aside from continuing on, you find humor in the bad and use it for your own inspiration. You may get down but you never stay there long. The thought of doing better and exceeding your own expectations fuels you. Once all of the pieces of your life settle, you will have one hell of a picture to show and the best, most tragic and self deprecating story of how you got there. I will always be your biggest fan, your greatest admirer, and your loudest cheerleader. We have a bond that is unlike any other I have seen between sisters. I am so thankful and blessed to have you in my life. I know this expression is well overused but I would honestly be lost without you. I would laugh far less, and probably speak far less. I really think that you are my twin and I am just older… by three and a half years.

Moving on from this point in your life you will do great things. You will be packing up everything you have learned in your life and applying it to real life endeavors. You will see the real world, you will struggle, and you will cry, but always remember that I am always right next to you no matter where you are. You are a part of my soul and I will never leave you. I love you so much and again am so proud of you. Hang this diploma proudly on your wall and go fill the world with your words. You will be known. Your greatness is not to be contained and kept, but to be spread wide so that others may experience the joy that I feel by knowing you everyday. Go amaze, for you are amazing.

I love you so.

Thanksgiving Style

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and a great weekend, I know I did. It was small and nice with family, full of food and obviously style! I had my outfit picked out two days before Thanksgiving even came! It came to me when I was falling asleep, I’ve said before, my best ideas come when I am falling asleep…that can be very frustrating especially when you wake up the next morning and can’t remember, all you remember is that you had a great idea! Anyways, I was in Old Navy and discovered that EVERYTHING was 40% off. I had been looking for a black dress specifically to wear with boots that you’ll soon see, once I see them since I accidentally had them delivered to my parents and didn’t realize before I hit submit checkout. Well I tried on a few black dresses and the one I really liked they didn’t have my size, so while looking around for more I saw they had grey, which although very cute, wouldn’t go with my new boots as they are also grey. The grey dress was by a different black dress that I actually ended up loving and bought, which you’ll see once I get my boots and wear them together (I can’t wait!).

When I went to bed that night it came to me! I wanted that grey dress now, to wear with my cream knee highs and cognac Madden Girl boots. It sounded perfect. I had the socks and boots, all I needed was the dress, and a long gold necklace. I went to the Old Navy by my work when I got off the next day and of course they did not have my size in the dress. So I went out of my way on the way home to go back to the Old Navy I was at the night before. Luckily they had ONE left in my size. I bought it, I didn’t even try it on, I was sure it would fit. The next day I went to Charming Charlie after work to find a necklace, I had a coupon of course, and ended up making out there! You’ll see these new necklaces throughout my upcoming posts since I am excited to wear them all. I happened to find the exact kind of necklace I was looking for. I love it when things work out this easily!

In the end, I was very pleased with how this outfit turned out and I already want to wear it again!

My sisters even came in grey dresses! It’s becoming a tradition I think to match on Thanksgiving since my little sister and I did last year too on accident!

A Tragic Short- Dad’s Life Lessons #1

In honor of my Dad’s birthday today, I want to share one of his life lessons he shared with my sisters and I this past Sunday. He was talking about my niece to my older sister and about when we all have kids and when they want pets.

This is what he told us: “Girls just always remember, anything that lives, poops.”

Thanks Dad. We will be sure to remember that.

The Fab Five, Tragic events

Tragic Trippin

About a week ago I got to get dressed up with my four girlfriends, we call ourselves the Fab Five, and we went to support our sorority as respected alumnae at their philanthropy event: Theta Beta’s Sigma Kappa Ultra Violet Casino Night. It was fun to go to but the part we loved the most was dressing up, as usual. One of my girls and I are pretty much known as legends in our sorority, not to toot our own horn but toot-toot, because I was President and she was Executive Vice President and we made an amazing team together. I am not over exaggerating either, one of the girls told my dad this at Casino Night. Anyways after a night of faux blackjack and we felt that we had made a long enough appearance and took the appropriate amount of cute pictures in front of the letters, we left for the next portion of the night.

We were all going to head to a bar in the next city over but first I had to go pick up my boyfriend from daycare, aka- friends house where I dropped him off to watch the USC vs. UCLA game. As expected he was drunk already and by the time we made it to the bar he was asleep in the car. He woke right up though and was ready for a drink. We got inside and found the girls whose boyfriends and one husband also met up. My boyfriend asked what I wanted to drink and I said a Dirty Shirley which he responded to quite loudly that I wanted a whore. Like I said, he was drunk. One of the other girls had one and it was a nice small drink which was perfect because I was driving. Finally when he turned around with my drink it was in a straight up goblet. I asked him what he ordered?! He said that he told the bartender that he wanted a Dirty Shirley and to make her dirty, which is why I am assuming she gave him a giant one. There was no way I was going to be able to drink all of it and drive home so it became a group thing with my roomie and one of the other girls.

Dirty Shirley

After drinking my very Dirty Shirley we decided it was time to go as did everyone else. We would all see each other the next day anyways for our Friendsgiving. I drove my boyfriend and I back to my place, where he sat in the back so he could pretend I was a chauffeur, and he fell asleep again. By this time I had been in my heels for hours and my feet were in pain so I was so happy to finally be home. We were almost there, almost to the door when it happened. Mayday-mayday I was going down and I couldn’t stop it. My heel went on a wet leaf, which then slid into the drain in the parking lot and I ate it. I couldn’t catch my balance because I was holding my purse and another bag so I went right down on my knee. The drunk, non-helping boyfriend laughed and then asked if I was okay, and then laughed again. Bruised and bleeding, I would be the SOBER one who falls down. Typical Tragic Girl.

Being Thankful

Being the Thanksgiving season and all we should all take the chance to recognize what we are thankful for. I myself am thankful for a lot. I’m thankful for the wonderful dinner that I got to eat with my family today and that I got to watch my 2 year old niece play. But I am also thankful for so much more…

10 things I am thankful for:
1- I am thankful for the dry shampoo that I had to use two days in a row this week because I was too lazy to wash my hair
2- I’m thankful for tampons because they are probably one of the best inventions in the world
3- I am thankful that I didn’t pop my tire when I ran over the curb yesterday
4- For my roomie, may she always be just as tragic as I am
5- I’m thankful for my Bfffff and that she has put up with me for 15 years
6- For my sisters assuring me that I am not the only crazy one
7- I am thankful that living on my own has taught me that snacks actually make a good dinner
8- For my boyfriend because for some reason he loves me
9- I am thankful that I am a sneaky, ninja, closeted psycho girl but appear put together to everyone else
10- I am thankful that although I can’t remember things all the time, I can always remember movie quotes like a teenage boy

There are things to be thankful for everyday. Instead of always go, go, going, we need to take time to reflect and be happy with our lives no matter how tragic they are. Love your life, your family, and your friends and be thankful that you have them.

Love,

A Tragic Short- The Family Junk Yard

Being tragic runs in my family which makes me feel better that it is not just me. It turns out all of my sisters are also tragic, more some than others, and even my dad, even though he won’t admit it. Well two of my sisters and I decided to prove the whole “bad things happen in threes” saying in the best way possible, with our cars.

Exhibit A:
My younger sister was driving to her friends house one night. She had a red 1994 Ford Escort Wagon legit with automatic seat belts. She was at a stop light sitting behind a Mercedes when the light turned green. Everyone started going including my sister, then everyone stopped, not including my sister. She was barely going and hit the back of the Mercedes. Nothing happened to the Mercedes but my sister got a totaled car and an airbag to the face.

Three weeks later…

Exhibit B:
My youngest sister was driving to school in her red 1991 Jeep. She started going over the bumps in the center line so went to correct herself. She somehow over corrected and swerved to the right, then went to correct that and swerved to the left, then over corrected again and swerved to the right resulting into her going over the curb, plowing over hedges, and crashing into a tree. Actually going a good speed this sister needed an airbag but her jeep didn’t have them and she smacked her head on her steering wheel. Thankfully she was okay, but that tree gave no cares and was perfectly fine but the jeep became totaled car number two.

Two weeks later…

Exhibit C:
I was driving in my blue 2009 Toyota Corolla to my boyfriend’s house after work. I was on the freeway in the fast lane going probably around 70 mph. There was a lot of cars but it was a constant flow, not stop and go traffic. All of a sudden I see the small car in front of the van in front of me swerve to the left and then the van just came to a dead stop so fast that I couldn’t stop fast enough. I crashed right into the van. When I looked up I just saw my hood completely bent up and no airbags. Come to find out later my car had a recall for airbags so they should have gone off, they were just defected. Anyways this was totaled car number three.

You can imagine how freaked out our parents were. Three totaled cars all within a month an a half. I wonder what our neighbors thought when one crashed car was sitting out front after another. Thus became the not so funny joke of the family junk yard.

A Tragic Short- Hubba Hubcap

My sister and I were driving home from somewhere, I don’t remember from where, but she was behind me. After I passed the street where she would be turning she called me. When I answered she told me that my hub cap just rolled off. Are you serious?! This had already happened before and I had to drive around all ghetto with one hubcap for awhile. Anyways, she told me she would pick it up for me because I had just gotten on the freeway. What a nice sister.

The next week, after driving around ghetto yet again, I went over to my sister’s to visit and to get my hubcap. We were watching a movie and her boyfriend went to go put my hubcap back on. After a few minutes he calls us from down at my car and says that it’s not the right hubcap. My sister said what do you mean it isn’t the right hubcap? I asked her if she picked up the one that she saw fall off? She told me yes she did… after she went to Target. She said that it had to be the right one, it even had a Toyota emblem on it. I turned and looked at her. My hubcaps didn’t have a Toyota emblem on them. She looked confused and said but you have a Toyota. I told her yes I do but my hubcap fell off before and I got all new ones that didn’t say Toyota. I could tell she was trying to hold in her laugh. All of a sudden we started busting up laughing. That is true sister love when she picks up someone else’s hubcap off the side of the street for you.

I have now graduated to a new car with rims. Problem solved.
